chapter 10
10. Akan (2)
Belek, known as the ‘Underground King’ of Akan, sat in front of his men.
“Tomorrow morning, the life of Gelmore market will be in my hands.”
The men in front of him who had been crouching down, jumped up at Belek’s words.
“We can finally reap the seeds we’ve been accumulating! Boss!”
Belek raised the corners of his mouth seeing his subordinate speaking excitedly.
“Yes, it’s time to give up this title of king of this trash heap. hahahaha!”
Belek put a thick cigar in his mouth and lit it up. His protruding belly jiggled with every breath.
The reach of the drugs spread by Belek was more extensive than expected.
Belek, who was once just a drug dealer, was able to fully establish his roots in a city because this city was not ruled by a hereditary aristocracy but a self-governing city where the emperor appointed the mayor.
A woman approached the side of a skinny man who was drinking and whispered a few words.
“The deputy of Princess Bridgette 1 arrived in Akan this morning? Single-handedly drove out the revolutionaries from the train?”
David, who worked as an advisor next to Belek, frowned.
“This is information sent by one of our men based in Halo province. That means it’s highly credible…”
Hearing David’s words, Belek snickered.
“If that’s true, he’ll move quickly to get his business done. Will he have time to worry about us? And our power is not so weak.”
Belek stared at one of the giant men standing behind him.
“I am capable of handling those ruffians from the revolutionary ranks, even if that guy dares to interfere with us, we can kill him easily. All around this land, there are people enslaved to my drugs.”
White-grey smoke billowed densely like a foggy cloud from Belek’s mouth.
Including those who were trusted by Gelmore.
***
The Inn, Volo.
Since Yuma had nothing worth calling luggage, she simply unpacked Clona’s bag and headed downstairs to the dining room.
The employee had a gentle smile.
“Steak and tea. Please enjoy.”
With a very kind smile, the employee introduced the food, bowed politely, and disappeared.
“Miss Yuma.”
Clona looked at Yuma intently.
It was because of what Yuma had said just before leaving their room. Yuma’s statement was to not eat the food as soon as it arrived.
“Try your magic.”
“And can you check if something has been added to the food?”
“Yes.”
Material Analysis Magic, Clona’s Elemental Spectrum spell completed along her fingertips.
The target of the spell was the tea in the cup.
Clona’s eyes widened.
In front of Clona’s eyes, the formula of chemistry and magic engineering floated in midair, indicating there’s something wrong with the tea.
Clona whispered in Yuma’s ear.
“…It’s poison. Probably some kind of sleep aid or anesthetic.”
“Is that so?”
In Yuma’s mind, the man with blue hair, the city’s mayor Gelmore, emerged.
“Your city has apparently ceased being yours.”
The inn introduced by a man deemed trustworthy, had already become a den of corruption.
The only reason to lace food with this type of drug would be for human trafficking or organ trafficking.
Their original goal was not eating but finding out whether or not any trickery had been done so they had achieved their purpose.
“Can we evaporate the tea in the cup?”
Yuma planned to use a decoy.
In order for those who played tricks on this food not to notice their tricks hadn’t worked.
“Yes.”
Following Clona’s hand gesture, the tea in the two cups slowly evaporated.
“These empty cups will serve as bait.”
Since they had already eaten before entering the inn, it didn’t matter.
“Go ahead, up.”
“Yes!”
Excited to be useful, Clona nodded vigorously.
Entering room no. 302 assigned to them, a reasonably spacious inn room, they began to prepare for the guests who would be lured by the bait.
Step by step.
Through the staircase, the sounds of numerous footsteps reached my ears.
“They didn’t touch the food?”
“They drank all the tea, though. By now, they should both be unconscious.”
“Should we just remove the man’s organs… Ah, his face was half-rotten though. Perhaps it’s best to sell it to the madams?”
“What about the woman?”
“What to do with her, you ask? hahahahaha!”
“I heard tomorrow is the day Count Velek takes control of the Gellmore Market?”
“That’s right, we can’t be worse than the knights. We’re bleeding them dry.”
Amid the crude conversations…
“Okay, the key.”
Clunk, clunk!
The doorknob shook violently.
The door opened.
“…Huh, they’re not unconscious?”
Squeak.
Yuma stood silently by the door.
Three men and Yuma exchanged glances.
The men, upon confirming that Clone was also awake, seemed visibly taken aback.
The man with the brown hair scratched his head.
“Did they taste it and take notice? Are they gourmets? But…it seemed like they drank all the tea.”
Yuma quickly scanned the levels hovering above the three men’s heads.
[Lv.34] [Lv.31] [Lv.27]
‘Low-levels.’
The man with the [Lv.31] stepped forward.
“Ah, I really didn’t want to see blood again.”
Despite his words, the man who was already grinning wide drew his sword from his hip without hesitation.
Swoosh.
“Hey, this is a warning.”
A faint aura shimmered from the longsword.
Although Yuma had called the swordsmen who used auras ‘low-level,’ those he had faced so far were indeed so, compared to the bigger players.
And then he brandished it towards Yuma.
The longsword swooped down like a flash of lightning.
Clang!
Followed by the sound of clashing metal.
<Absolute Counter>
A purplish energy flowed from the tip of <Black Dragon Bernark’s Fang>, swinging like a scythe.
Thump.
The man’s head rolled across the floor.
A slow tide of red blood began to engulf the corridor.
“…Huh?”
[Lv.34] A dumb noise flowed out of the man hovering above his head.
Yuma approached him with big strides.
“Ba…stard.”
The man twisted his mouth.
With a purple sword that blew off the head of his own comrade.
He didn’t recognize the sword itself.
The languid expression of Yuma, who seemed like a foolish one who couldn’t even recognize his own place, started to look like the face of a relaxed strong man.
Even the action of a guy who was just putting his hand in his pocket while the other was wielding a sword seemed comfortable as a strong man.
“Hey.”
He gestured towards the remaining comrade. A pitiful guy who couldn’t handle his anger yet.
But now, he had no choice but to rush in at the same time as him.
“We’re going together. We’re going to kill that bastard no matter what.”
[Lv.27] nodded his head fiercely. He was in a more confident state than the [Lv.34] man. It was possible because his understanding of swords was a little shallower than the man’s.
The twomen forcefully stepped on the ground at the same time.
Buzzz!
Swoosh!
Two beams of lightning made a rush.
Yuma observed the trajectories of the swords directly.
And he calculated it in an instant.
Clang!
A perfect paring timing. Two golden light sources, impacts exploded.
[Lv.27]’s neck flew off.
[Lv.34]’s heart was pierced in the strong wind.
Thud
Boom!
The moment when one body turned into three was there.
Yuma traveled past the three corpses and headed forward.
A middle-aged white haired man sitting down with a foolish face.
Towards the owner of this inn, Uolo.
[Lv.6]
He looked like an innocent man without any significant power.
Yuma strutted with dagger Bernack in his hand.
“We seem to need a lengthy conversation, owner.”
“I… I … I didn’t recognize you as a noble!”
Yuma bowed his head and made eye contact with the inn owner, Maidel. Deep fear was written in Maidel’s eyes, who had witnessed these powerful challengers, not just street punks, but the ones directly conferred by Berek, falling with a single blade.
“I heard quite an interesting conversation before I killed these guys.”
-Didn’t they say tomorrow is the day Berek gets a grip on the city of Gelmor?
That was what one of the three men, who had just turned into cold corpses, had said.
Upon hearing those words, Yuma linked the information about Underground King Bellac he had heard from Halo’s Archon supervisor, William, this morning.
“Underground King Berek. What is he planning? Is he trying to push out this Archon’s market, Gelmor?”
The response was delayed.
Crack!
“Uughh!”
Yuma slammed the sword he was holding onto the ground, right next to Meidel’s right leg at [Lv.27].
The effect was quite spectacular.
“Oh, we can’t completely suppress him! After all, Gelmore was elected mayor by the Emperor himself! They’re aiming to take hold of his weakness and make him a puppet!
“Weakness?”
“Ye-yes, Gelmore’s brother! Gelmore’s brother is completely addicted to Belek’s drugs! He’ll use him as leverage against Gelmore and turn him into a marionette! The plan was supposed to commence tomorrow!”
The underground king, who had ruled the underground of Akan city, was trying to come to the surface.
