A Genius Morty

Chapter 23: CH23: Unraveling the Coil

Morty sat at his workbench, the quiet hum of the machines around him filling the room as he stared at the empty space where the containment unit had been just moments before. The weight of his actions pressed down on him, the enormity of what he had just handed over to Evil Morty sinking in. This wasn't just a piece of technology—it was something far more dangerous, something that had the potential to unravel the multiverse itself.

Morty had faced the Infinite Coil before, during a brief and harrowing encounter that had left him shaken for weeks. The Coil was an organization so secretive and powerful that even the Conclave of Aeons—the bureaucratic overlords of the multiverse—had trouble keeping them in check. The Conclave had rules, protocols and an obsession with balance. They saw themselves as the guardians of time and space, managing the delicate threads that connected the multiverse and ensuring that no one entity gained too much power. But the Infinite Coil? They didn't care about balance. They sought control—absolute control over the very fabric of reality itself. And now, thanks to Morty, Evil Morty had just acquired a piece of that control.

The Conclave of Aeons had come after Morty before, chasing him across dimensions after he had interfered with one of their experiments, but that encounter had been nothing compared to what he had just done. He had infiltrated the very heart of the Infinite Coil, stolen one of their most precious secrets, and handed it over to someone who could—and likely would—use it to shatter the multiverse.

Morty's hands trembled slightly as he leaned back in his chair. The fear he had been pushing down ever since Evil Morty first called in his favor was bubbling to the surface now. He had been too focused on completing the mission, too caught up in the rush of navigating the Coil's labyrinthine headquarters, but now that the adrenaline had worn off, he was left with the harsh reality of what he had done.

The Infinite Coil didn't just manipulate reality—they owned it. They reshaped universes at will, bending time and space to their needs, and their influence stretched far beyond what Morty had initially realized. The device he had stolen wasn't just a tool for opening doors. It was a key to unlocking parts of the multiverse that had been sealed away for a reason.

Morty remembered the Conclave's warnings—how they had told him that certain realities were too dangerous to access, that they held powers and entities that could not be controlled. At the time, he had brushed off their concerns as more bureaucratic nonsense, but now, as he thought about what Evil Morty planned to do with the crystal, those warnings felt more real than ever.

He stood up abruptly, pacing the lab as his mind raced. He needed answers. He couldn't just sit here, waiting for whatever catastrophe Evil Morty was about to unleash. There had to be a way to stop this—some way to undo what he had set in motion.

Morty's thoughts turned to the Conclave of Aeons. As much as he hated to admit it, they might be the only ones who could help him now. They had resources, knowledge, and the power to counteract whatever the Infinite Coil—or Evil Morty—was planning. But reaching out to them would mean putting himself back on their radar, and after their last encounter, Morty wasn't sure if that was a risk he was willing to take.

He had narrowly escaped the Conclave's grasp after his last run-in with them. They had wanted to "correct" the timeline he had disrupted, to fix the damage he and Rick had caused during one of their adventures. Morty had been nothing more than a pawn to them, a piece of the puzzle they needed to fit back into place. But this was different. If the Conclave found out that he had stolen from the Infinite Coil, they wouldn't just "correct" him—they'd erase him from existence altogether.

Morty stopped pacing, his mind whirling with possibilities. He needed more information, something that could give him an edge over both Evil Morty and the Infinite Coil. The crystal he had delivered—it had felt alive in a way that no other technology had. It wasn't just a device; it was connected to the multiverse itself, a conduit for something far more powerful.

He needed to find out what that "something" was.

With a renewed sense of determination, Morty turned to the portal gun on his workbench. There was one place that might hold the answers he was looking for, one dimension that housed knowledge about the deepest workings of the multiverse: the Library of Aeons. It was a forbidden archive, controlled by the Conclave, but if Morty could find a way inside, he might be able to discover the truth behind the crystal—and, more importantly, how to stop Evil Morty from using it.

He dialed in the coordinates, the familiar green portal flickering to life in front of him. The Library of Aeons was heavily guarded, and accessing it without alerting the Conclave would be no small feat, but Morty had no choice. If he didn't act now, whatever Evil Morty had planned could spell the end of everything.

Taking a deep breath, Morty stepped through the portal.

The Library of Aeons was unlike any place Morty had ever seen. It wasn't a physical library in the traditional sense, but rather an endless, ever-shifting dimension filled with ancient knowledge, secrets of the multiverse stored in a vast network of ethereal energy. Books didn't line the shelves here; instead, glowing streams of information flowed through the air, swirling around in complex patterns that Morty could barely comprehend.

He materialized in a small alcove, hidden from view by the swirling streams of data. Morty kept his cloaking device active, masking his presence from the Conclave's sensors. He couldn't afford to be seen here. The Conclave didn't take kindly to intruders, and the last thing he needed was to get into a fight with their elite timekeepers.

Morty moved cautiously, weaving through the labyrinth of knowledge. The energy here was palpable, thick with the weight of countless realities, timelines, and dimensions all intertwined. He could feel the pull of the multiverse in every direction, like a thousand different possibilities brushing against his skin. It was overwhelming, but Morty kept his focus. He had a specific goal, and he couldn't afford to get lost in the sea of information around him.

He needed to find the section of the library dedicated to forbidden technologies—specifically, anything related to the Infinite Coil. If there was a way to understand the crystal he had stolen, it would be stored here, hidden among the Conclave's most dangerous secrets.

After what felt like hours of navigating the twisting corridors of energy, Morty finally found what he was looking for. A glowing stream of data, unlike the others, pulsed with a dark, ominous energy. It radiated power, its light casting long shadows across the space around it. This was it—the Coil's secrets, locked away by the Conclave for fear of what they might unleash.

Morty reached out cautiously, his fingers brushing against the stream of data. The moment he made contact, a flood of information rushed into his mind. Images, thoughts, and knowledge from across the multiverse surged through him, too fast to fully comprehend. But one thing became clear almost immediately: the crystal was far more dangerous than he had imagined.

The crystal was connected to something called the Nexus Point—a place where all realities converged, where the rules of the multiverse broke down entirely. It was a point of infinite possibilities, infinite chaos. If Evil Morty used the crystal to access the Nexus Point, he wouldn't just be opening doors to new dimensions. He'd be unlocking the very core of the multiverse itself, a place where the distinction between creation and destruction ceased to exist.

And if he succeeded, the entire multiverse could unravel.

Morty's heart raced as he absorbed the knowledge, his mind struggling to keep up with the gravity of what he had just learned. Evil Morty wasn't just after power—he was after the ultimate power. The ability to reshape reality on a scale that no one, not even the Conclave of Aeons or the Infinite Coil, could control.

Morty pulled back from the stream of data, his breath coming in short, sharp gasps. He had to stop this. If Evil Morty activated the crystal and accessed the Nexus Point, the consequences would be catastrophic.

But how? How could he stop someone who was always two steps ahead?

The sound of footsteps echoed through the library, snapping Morty out of his thoughts. He turned, his heart leaping into his throat as he saw a group of Conclave timekeepers moving toward him, their faces obscured by glowing masks. They hadn't spotted him yet, but it was only a matter of time.

Morty cursed under his breath. He needed to get out of here, fast.

He activated his portal gun, dialing in the coordinates for his lab. The green vortex flickered to life just as the timekeepers rounded the corner, their glowing eyes locking onto Morty.

Without hesitation, Morty jumped through the portal, narrowly escaping their grasp.

Back in his lab, Morty slammed his fist against the workbench, frustration and fear boiling inside him. He had the information he needed, but now he faced an even greater challenge. Stopping Evil Morty wasn't just about outsmarting him anymore. It was about preventing the destruction of the entire multiverse.

And he had no idea how to do it.

As Morty sat there, staring at the portal gun in his hands, the reality of his situation began to sink in. He had stolen a weapon of unimaginable power, handed it over to someone who was more dangerous than anyone else in the multiverse, and now he had to figure out how to stop them before it was too late.

The multiverse was unraveling, and Morty was the only one who could stop it.

But deep down, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was already too late.
