Chapter 1174: Deepsea Legions
Archer noticed the commander stepped forward as they all knelt as the man spoke, ''Evening, Your Majesties, I'm Reed Silverfang, commander of this base. What brings you to Deepsea One?''
When he heard this, his eyebrow rose, causing him to question, ''Is that the name of this base?''
Reed nodded. ''Yes, my lord. There Deepsea one to twelve that circles Draconia,'' he revealed.
''Interesting, show me around,'' he spoke while glancing around at the war machines that sat in bays, ready to be deployed.
Archer was just about to speak but Mary interrupted while looking at the glass that gave a view of the outside as she revealed, ''Something dangerous is out there, I'll go check it out as the commander shows you around.''
He nodded before stepping forward and grabbing her curvy waist while planting a passionate kiss on her plump lips. Mary quickly reciprocated as she wrapped her arms around his shoulder.
The two of them continued until breaking apart a few moments later. Archer smiled at the older woman, ''Be careful out there my love, if you need any help just send me a message and I'll be there,'' he said.
She responded with a radiant smile that highlighted her beauty before stepping forward and wrapping him in a tight embrace. Archer held her close, returning the gesture with warmth as she replied, ''Thank you, Arch, I'll be back soon but make sure you enjoy the tour.''
Following that, Mary approached the exit and jumped in the water as the nearby Legionnaire hit a button that opened the bay door. She swam out to sea before transforming into her Nameless Thing form, which shook Deepsea One.
Once she was gone Reed spoke up, ''Let me show you the war machines we have so far, but take in mind that these are the first of many Queen Dellah has designed and invented with your help.''
Archer gave the man a nod as they approached the first crafts he met while getting close to Deepsea One. When the two arrived the older man spoke, ''This is the LAC Tidefangs, it is the main battle craft we'll use when engaging with enemy forces, they are fast and built so good that they can take two Howler Cannons shots before failing.''
''What does LAC stand for?'' he questioned while admiring the craft.
''Light attack craft,'' Reed answered while looking at the vessel with pride.
Now that Archer was close, he could take in the full design of the Tidefang. The war machine was dark and streamlined, its sleek frame built for both speed and durability. A compact cockpit housed the Legionnaire piloting it, encased in reinforced glass.
Its long, angular wings extended outward, engineered to slice effortlessly through the water with minimal resistance. His gaze quickly caught the missile slots embedded along the frame, triggering a flicker of recognition.
'She's included everything,' he thought, recalling the original schematics he had drawn.
Archer noticed that Dellah had created something flawless, but his mind lingered on a crucial detail as he thought while scanning it with his mana, 'The shields are strong, but they wouldn't hold up to prolonged hits from mana cannons.'
As they moved to inspect the next craft, Reed spoke up. ''These are Tempest Strikers, the Underwater HACs,'' he explained, gesturing to the imposing machines before them. ''Their primary role is to bombard coastal cities, fleets, and Titans with overwhelming firepower.''
'Heavy Assault Craft,' he thought while admiring the vessel.
Archer nodded in understanding as the commander continued talking, ''Compared to the Tidefangs, their shields are significantly stronger, designed to withstand sustained assaults.''
He paused, his gaze shifting to the weapons mounted on the crafts as Reed concluded. ''However, they're not heavily armed. The Gattling Cannon is their sole offensive weapon, as they'll deliver devastating bombardments from a distance.''
His eyes lingered on the Tempest Strikers, taking in their design with admiration. Dellah had added her touch to the machines. The crafts had a rounded shape, giving them a sturdy and aerodynamic appearance, with a small reinforced window at the front where the pilots operated.
'These things will be useful in the upcoming war,' he thought with glowing violet eyes,
Mounted on top were two powerful cannons, their presence oozing an air of menace. As Archer examined them more closely, he could feel the strength of the shields emanating from them, which spoke to their defensive abilities.
He couldn't help but admire the craftsmanship, appreciating both the functionality and the artistry behind the design. While staring at it Reed commented, ''These will devastate the Alliance shipyards and fortresses, but we need the Tidefangs to defend them.''
''I'll ensure to design more craft when I return to the surface,'' Archer replied with a curious expression. ''There are many I could come up with that would be useful to the underwater legions.''
Reed got excited when hearing this, which made him chuckle at the older man's behavior as he turned toward something he recognized. 'A submarine. She built them much better than what I designed.'
Following that, the commander led him toward the large vessels as he spoke. ''This is the Tempest Runners, bigger, stronger, and faster versions of the bombers, but these beauties can transport the Underwater Legions to battlefields while protecting them.''
Archer nodded in understanding as his gaze shifted to the top of the submarine where the imposing Death Launchers were mounted. These weapons are designed to unleash devastating volleys on any approaching enemies.
He was already impressed, but his admiration deepened as he noticed the Gatling Cannons strategically positioned along the submarine's sides. These defenses equipped the vessel with a layer of protection.
''They can hold up to eight hundred Legionnaires and crew which will help conquer the isolated islands,'' Reed revealed as sailors rushed push while an alarm blared.
Archer looked toward the exit but the commander spoke in a hurried tone, ''Come watch the defenses at work. You'll be impressed, Your Majesty.''
Reed led Archer to a raised platform that overlooked the vast seafloor, stretching endlessly into the murky depths. Archer's eyes swept across the view, only to catch sight of a swarm of Blood Sharks charging toward a massive machine operating on the seafloor.
The machine was enormous, easily twice the size of a large building. It moved steadily, crawling across the seabed, its massive drills tearing into the ground. Streams of dirt and rock spewed out from the rear, forming a plume that trailed behind it.
The sight was awe-inspiring, prompting Archer to ask with curiosity, ''What is that machine?''
''Seaforge Harvesters, they collect the resource underground which fills up the storage compartments quickly,'' Reed replied just as cannons started firing.
Archer observed as the powerful blasts cut effortlessly through the water, their shimmering trails ending in devastating explosions that obliterated the Blood Sharks in bursts of concentrated mana.
The eruptions lit up the seafloor, leaving behind nothing but dissipating mana and scattered debris. However, a few of the sharks survived the initial assault, their sleek forms darting toward the massive Seaforge Harvester.
Before they could close the distance, the machine's Gatling Cannons roared to life. The rapid-fire barrage unleashed a thunderous rhythm, the rounds tearing through the surviving monsters with precision and relentless force, leaving no threat unaddressed.
Archer watched as the sharks were turned into meat chunks that floated off in the currents, which made him chuckle before speaking, ''Well, the Underwater Legions are coming along good. How many are ready to be deployed?''
When Reed heard this, he thought briefly and answered, ''Ten, but there are twenty more being trained. There's also one hundred of each vessel that is spilled between the bases.''
''Okay, I will increase the Deepsea Forces budget to get more soldiers, war machines, and bases,'' Archer revealed while watching scavenging monsters feeding on the dead shark while the Harvester continued.
The commander got excited when hearing this as he exclaimed, ''The Underwater Legions can fight above and below the waves. They are perfect for beach landings. Rumors speak about an upcoming Avidia invasion. The First Deepsea Legion can help you take the coast and secure a landing site.''
''Interesting, I assume the legions are smaller than their land counterparts?'' he asked the older man.
Reed nodded, ''Yes, Your Majesty, two hundred thousand soldiers make up a legion alongside the war machines they'll use during battle,'' he answered.
''Get one ready for deployment in a few months. We should be prepared to launch the attack by then,'' Archer instructed.
The older man nodded in acknowledgment before continuing the tour. Reed guided him through the expansive base, showcasing its many facilities. Archer was impressed as they passed through the training halls where Legionnaires honed their skills.
After that, he was led to the barracks, thoughtfully designed to balance comfort and efficiency. Each space was practical, yet accommodating, ensuring the soldiers could rest and recharge.
Next, they arrived at the bustling dining hall, filled with the lively chatter of soldiers enjoying their meals.
