Charlotte looked at the results from her very brief progress, a spark of joy lighting her face as if she'd just won the lottery money on sporty bet. Lost in her thoughts, the boy in the cage rolled his eyes. Charlotte turned toward him.

"Hello there, little one," she said casually, crouching beside the boy. Being the typical nice aunty to little children.

"You must be one of the slaves. Please, get me out of here," the boy beckoned, being nonchalant of his actions towards a Nigerian woman who clearly hated a slang known as "Wahala" which meant "Trouble or problem."

Charlotte jerked her head back in disbelief, confused as to why he would call her a slave. "Excuse me, it is like you don't have respect, oh?" she asked, eyes narrowing.

"What are you talking about?" the boy retorted. "Aren't you some concubine for that depraved king, seeking justice?"

Charlotte's mind reeled as she processed the disrespectful use of words, each one being an indirect insult to he. "You this little…" she whispered, but then a wide mischievous grin spread across her face. The child's expression changed as he caught the shift in Charlotte's demeanor.

"What are you up to?" the child inquired, clearly wary of the woman's actions. Charlotte said nothing.

"Oh, come on, please, I'll do whatever you want!" the child pleaded, finally understanding Charlotte's plans.

Charlotte slowly backed away, her grin widening as the boy continued to beg.

"I'll wash your back whenever you want to take a bath in the streams!" he cried, his hands reaching out from the bars6of the cage. This made Charlotte step back ecen more.

"You are really a perverted little brat, aren't you?" she said, a tone of anger in her voice.

The child raised an eyebrow, confused by Charlotte's choice of words. "Boy?! Who told your daft self I was a boy? Are you blind or something?"

Charlotte froze in her tracks. She had been mistaken—she had thought the child was a rude, perverted boy because of how they acted. "What are you telling me?" she demanded, as if expecting an answer to a question she had already answered herself.

"Honestly, they always get it wrong," the child, now identified as a girl, said with a shake of her head, her expression one of disbelief. She lowered her gaze to the ground.

Charlotte approached the girl again, but as she did, two system panels materialized before her. She glanced at the first one, which displayed information about the child. It read:

"Aubrey Montgomery," Charlotte whispered to herself.

This child was an ally, and Charlotte had almost missed unlocking the information when she had the chance. But just as she was about to turn her attention to the next tab, something caught her eye.

[Escape before the hunter gets you]

• Time: 00:01

Charlotte glanced and before her were enormous figures. Despite her incredible height, these men were much bigger and with a series of coordinated hits, they had captured her, binding her arms with the chains lying around the campfire.

The five men who had abandoned their posts, via the orders of the two soldiers that were taken down arrived shortly thereafter. The two massive figures glanced back at them, their expressions unreadable. "Weren't you ordered not to leave your post?" one of the hulking men asked, his tone menacing and enough to give anyone who engaged in a conversation a fright.

But this did not apply to the five ruffians, as there were visibly not intimidated by the imposing stature of the figures, the leader of the five stepped forward. "Oi, don't go blaming us for something beyond our control."

"Yea, he's spot on," another chimed in smugly.

"It's not our fault you lazy sods can't even manage to get a little child onto the ship."

The towering figures exchanged glances, their eyes narrowing in silent warning as the five ruffians smirked, trying to mask their fear. The larger men heaved a collective sigh, their irritation barely contained.

"The buyer will be returning soon," one of the figures remarked, pointing toward Charlotte, who sat with a sack over her head. "Might as well dispose of that troublesome wench."

With that, the two figures departed, their footsteps fading into the distance, leaving the five ruffians alone with Charlotte and Aubrey. One of the ruffians, evidently the leader, stepped forward and yanked the sack off Charlotte's head.

Charlotte gasped for air, her chest heaving as she struggled to regain her composure. Her head remained bowed until the leader grabbed her jaw, forcing her to look up.

"Well, seems we've caught ourselves a pretty little one, eh?" the leader sneered, his grin widening as he studied her face.

Charlotte's orange eyes blazed with fury as she met his gaze, her expression deadly, but her defiant glare only amused the ruffians.

"She's trying to kill you with her glare," one of them mocked, chuckling with a sense of superiority.

Another ruffian circled behind Charlotte, delivering a harsh blow to her lower back. "And she's a right package too," he added with a leer.

Fueled by rage, Charlotte retaliated with a swift kick to the ruffian's jaw. "You little wrench!" the leader roared, rising to his feet and delivering a retaliatory kick of his own.

Charlotte's head snapped back, blood spraying from her mouth as the force of the blow sent her ears ringing.

[-5 HP]

The other ruffians joined in, raining down punches and kicks that were too much to bare. Each brutal strike threatened to render her unconscious, but Charlotte endured, refusing to yield.

"Take that, you wrench!" the leader snarled, continuing the assault. When they finally ceased, Charlotte lay on the ground, bloodied and barely able to move.

Aubrey watched the brutal scene unfold before her very eyes, tears streaming down her face. It was as if she had experienced this sort of cruelty before, the memory too painful to bear.

"Stop hitting her, you bloody bastards!" she cried out, her voice trembling with both fear and anger, though she knew her plea would likely fall on deaf ears.

The five ruffians stopped their relentless beatings, leaving Charlotte bloodied on the ground, but she was still alive to experience the pain. The leader of the rascals walked towards the little girl, crouching close to her, his cold breath coming in heavy gasps.

"So, you want to save the wrench too, eh?" he taunted, the proud smirk on his face never fading.

"Let her go…. this instant," Aubrey demanded one more time, her voice breaking as she struggled to speak through her fear.

The ruffians laughed at her weakness. To them she was just as less as Charlotte who they saw as a wrench who couldn't accomplish the things a man could.

Charlotte slowly opened her eyes, the distant laughter of the ruffians fading into a soft echo. The system warning appeared, blinking urgently with a red glow.

[Warning! Player has reached a critical state!]

The message glitched and contorted, flashing a bright red with white noise echoing clearly in her ears. Then another screen materialized before her.

[Player has acquired the necessary qualifications to gain the Soul XP feature.]

[Will you accept?]

• Yes / No

Time Duration: 00:50 secs

Soul XP? Charlotte questioned inwardly. In alk her time playing this game, she had never encountered such a mechanic.

Maybe it was updated?. But that was impossible since her grandmother, the only creator of the game had passed away.

She accepted the offer and another tab appeared.

[Unlocks New Abilities: Basic Flames]

Charlotte understood now. This wasn't just a new feature—it was something she had never explored or needed before.

[Main Quest: Kill All Ruffians]

[Number of ruffians killed: 0/5]

Duration: 01:40

Penalty: Temporary Paralysis

The ruffians continued their mocking laughters, their non ending jeers directed at Aubrey, until the air around them began to heat up. A strange golden light illuminated their faces, prompting them to turn toward its source. There stood Charlotte, already on her feet despite the chains binding her wrists, her eyes fixed on the bloodied ground beneath her.

"Oi, looks like the wench has some fight in her after all," the leader sneered mockingly. "Go on then, remove her shackles. Let's see what she can do."

One of the ruffians, the same one who had struck her against her buttocks, approached with a smug grin. He placed his hand on her waist, leaning in close. "Hey, wench, tell you what," he whispered, "You give me a little kiss, and I might just let you go."

"Oh… really," Charlotte muttered, her tone deceptively soft. The ruffian nodded confidently.

"That's too bad," Charlotte continued, her voice shifting to a menacing whisper, "Because I have already freed it myself." With a swift motion, she placed her glowing hand on his shoulder. Her eyes and the tattoos on her skin glowed with an intense orange.

In an instant, the ruffian burst into flames, his screams of agony piercing the night. The other ruffians watched in horror as their comrade's body was consumed by the fire, his flesh and bones melting away in mere moments.

"One…" Charlotte muttered, her gaze lifting to meet the others. "Who wants to go next?" she taunted, her expression cold and devoid of mercy.

The remaining ruffians, shaken by the horrifying display which they thought was witchcraft, began to stumble back, fear evident in their eyes. One of them, gritting his teeth in anger, charged at Charlotte with his fist raised in the air.
