Abandoned talented woman decides to live a leisurely life with her family

Chapter 0 - Prologue

Are you familiar with the current obsession with “true love” that’s spreading everywhere?

In the Kingdom of Baumgarden, and indeed in aristocratic societies in general, marriage typically serves as a bond between two families. This is the established norm. In most cases, the family head arranges the match, or at least offers consultation if from a higher-ranking family.

Naturally, the concept of “true love” is nonexistent. Any semblance of it usually emerges merely as extramarital affairs, particularly after producing an heir.

Consequently, young people typically don’t entertain notions of “true love” prior to marriage.

However…

Presently, premarital free love is gaining popularity.

Despite the aforementioned prevailing norm.

Young people, in defiance of traditional norms, champion this pursuit of “true love” as something noble. They fervently advocate for it, causing quite a stir, even going as far as calling off arranged engagements.

While it’s customary among aristocrats to enter into engagements and marriages arranged by their parents, there’s a growing trend of rejecting these in favor of pursuing “true love” with their chosen partner.

This trend is lamentable.

Yet, perhaps it’s the challenges and opposition that lend excitement to their romance. They vocally emphasize the value of “true love.”

Indeed, this phenomenon, dubbed the “engagement breakup” trend, was met with disdain by sensible adults of earlier generations.

Regrettably, parents caught up in the folly of their children’s actions were not only required to compensate the aggrieved party for the broken engagement but also offer apologies and arrange suitable matches for them. This often led to considerable trouble for the parents.

Furthermore, such fervent love often fizzles out quickly.

Despite the initial allure of a forbidden romance or the novelty of charming naivety, many relationships falter due to incompatible values or disillusionment with their partner’s lack of knowledge or behavior.

Those enamored with love that defies social boundaries eventually grow weary of their partner’s irregularities and struggle with etiquette lessons. Conversely, those drawn to their partner’s ignorance soon tire of repeating explanations and find their partner’s social shortcomings taxing.

Yet, not all outcomes are bleak.

Some couples, committed to their “true love,” support each other and lead fulfilling married lives.

However, those who cling to their idea of “true love” must handle the consequences, such as breaking off engagements, with maturity and sensitivity—both for themselves and their partner.

However, amidst the crowd of young enthusiasts for “true love,” there was one individual next to me, wholly enthralled by this impractical notion.
