Chapter 10 - Fool's Pleasure
After driving Anneliese out of the palace, Sarasa looked with satisfaction at the room for the future Crown Princess—the room where Anneliese had once slept.
“This room is going to be mine.”
The wallpaper, carpet, and curtains were all a dull shade of moss green. Maybe she should get them all changed to a pretty pink. And the bedding on her bed would look good in pink silk, right?
As she looked around the room, her eye fell on the closet.
“This will be filled with dresses and jewels given by His Highness…!”
Because I’m the beloved heroine of “Concerto for the Saint!”
“Concerto for the Saint” was a game popular among female gamers in the world Sarasa came from. By the way, Anneliese, who was from the same hometown, had no idea about the game.
Sarasa excitedly opened the closet door to find colorful dresses already hanging there, plus many jewelry boxes inside.
“Oh my! Is this a surprise from His Highness?”
Sarasa picked up one of the hanging clothes and tried it on her body.
“…What’s this? It won’t fit around my waist.”
Even though Sarasa was pregnant, she didn’t know it yet, and the obvious deficiency in her waist made her frown with anger.
When she looked, she discovered that corsets were hanging alongside the dresses as undergarments.
“Huh?! What is this? There’s no way I can squeeze it that thin!”
Those dresses were hand-me-downs from Anneliese, a young lady born and raised as an aristocrat, who had worn corsets since childhood to create a slim waist. It would be impossible to buy a large number of new dresses in time for the Queen’s return in ten days, so the dresses and jewels Anneliese had sent back were put in Sarasa’s closet.
However, for Sarasa, who had grown up naturally without the need for a corset, it was unreasonable to try to lose that much weight at this point.
By the way, she didn’t even realize that the underwear was second-hand…
“Don’t be ridiculous! What is the deal with the waist sizes of women in this country? Seriously…! Ah. Let’s tell the maids it will have a bad influence on the child and have the seamstresses adjust all the sizes.”
As she said this, she roughly threw the dress she had placed on herself back into the closet.
In an attempt to pull herself together, Sarasa reached for a colorful, heavy-looking box that seemed to contain jewels or something.
“Oh my! How beautiful!”
However, those were also jewels that had been given to Anneliese in the past. As expected, the Crown Prince did not have the budget to prepare several jewels to adorn a woman in ten days. So, like the dress, the Crown Prince kept the ones that Anneliese had rejected.
Emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and diamonds. When she opened the lid, colorful gems appeared. Sarasa speculated that the reason there were so many emeralds, in particular, was because they were meant to match the color of the Crown Prince’s eyes.
Sarasa’s anger from earlier began to subside.
“I can’t believe there are so many green gems that match the color of His Highness the Crown Prince’s eyes… He’s already showing his possessiveness so openly, it’s troubling me!”
Sarasa was pleased. However, she had no idea that all of these items were hand-me-downs.
That’s true. They were engaged right up until the day they got married. It’s only natural that most of the dresses and jewelry are green. They’re hand-me-downs, after all.
Sarasa, unaware of this situation, checked through all the jewels and put on the necklace with the largest emerald in the center, which was particularly eye-catching, along with the matching earrings. She then looked at herself wearing them in the mirror and rejoiced.
Once that was done, she started looking around the room again, and her eye fell on a bookshelf filled with books with difficult-looking writing on the spines.
“This is a nuisance.”
She roughly hooked her fingers over the top of the spine and dropped the precious books to the floor with a clatter. They were books that the teachers had collected for her to read during her time in princess education.
By the way, this world is made of paper, as it was created to be convenient and easy to understand for the game girls over there. I guess it was a blessing in disguise that they didn’t say “A precious book of parchment!”
Returning to the main topic, Sarasa was looking at the now empty bookshelf.
“I’d like to decorate this place with pretty jewelry boxes and stuffed toys.”
She glanced disinterestedly at the books scattered at her feet.
“I’ve come to the world of Concerto for the Saint! The Crown Prince I love is crazy about me, and the son of the knight commander and the mother of the family who adopted me are both very kind. My lord, the high priest’s son, and even the school teachers are all captivated by me, just like in the game’s harem route. But I choose His Highness the Crown Prince. What a sinful woman…!”
She jumped face down onto the bed and writhed around, clutching the pillow.
“I wonder what will happen to the villainous Lady Anneliese? In the game, she is exiled from the country for oppressing me, an important saint of the country… Ah, how pitiful!”
While saying that it was a pity, she pressed a big smile onto the pillow she was holding tightly.
Her face pressed against the pillow was smiling. At the end of the harem route in that game, Anneliese is banished alone and, in desperation, uses a forbidden spell to take revenge on us. She is defeated by all the targets who loved me and by my own hand.
Contrary to what I had imagined, she didn’t come to bully me for a while, so I ended up having to stage some of it myself. What’s more, I also didn’t expect that her father would appear at the scene of the verdict, his anger visible, and take his daughter home, but in the end, he’ll no doubt banish his daughter, who brought shame to the family.
–It’ll definitely end just like the harem route’s ending.
After all, this is a game world. It only makes sense that the ending would be the same as in the game.
In the game, the heroine has a happy ending. However, Sarasa finds herself transported to another world in the same situation as the heroine in “Concerto for the Saint.”
As a rare “invited person,” she was revered as a saint and was soon adopted by a noble family. She was also discovered to have a talent for light magic, and the church also supported her.
And within the small school campus, things were simply proceeding according to her plan.
“I hate my mom and dad in my previous world! They always told me to stop playing games and study, and every time they saw my face they said ‘Study’! But I’m going to live my life as a beloved heroine in this sparkling game world!”
The Crown Prince said he would inform Her Majesty the Queen of their relationship when she returned.
“Now the troublemaker is gone! This is a happy ending!”
But she didn’t notice.
This world is not a game, but a world inhabited by real people.
There are people’s intentions that are not mentioned in the game.
Life goes on even after the happy ending.
And the most unexpected thing was that, just as she was a person who had been transported to another world, Anneliese was a person who had been reincarnated into another world.
