Chapter 11 - Big family move!
Time passed quickly until the day of the move arrived.
The deadline was ten days so that Queen Alexandra wouldn’t find out, and those ten days, including travel days, were stormy.
“Even though it was just small valuables and daily necessities that wouldn’t weigh much, I was glad I managed to pack everything together,” my mother sighed with relief during the ride. A large carriage had been arranged so that the whole family could travel together.
The next carriage also carried the servants who had offered to accompany us. Leaving the kingdom was easy.
The Royal Capital erupted in celebration upon Her Majesty’s return. There were many people coming and going, along with large merchant caravans, allowing us to blend in and leave the country unnoticed.
— Shouldn’t security actually be tightened?
That’s what I thought, even though it’s the country where I was born and raised.
After leaving the royal capital and spending several days on the journey, we finally exited the country and were about to enter the Principality of Delasland. Initially, my younger siblings were excited about the view from the window, but they soon got bored with the long journey and fell asleep soundly, using our parents’ laps as their pillows.
“Even though my father was a nobleman with a high position and only lived in a townhouse, he held the important role of Prime Minister. He had accumulated quite a few expensive gifts and such,” Mother said.
Although Father didn’t particularly like anything approaching bribery, he often received gifts as a result of social interactions.
Even so, since it was such a big move, I was worried that the guards would notice us. But when Father explained, “As a result of his daughter’s engagement being called off, His Highness the Crown Prince ordered us to be exiled from the country,” they easily let us through the gates of the royal capital. The drama of the Crown Prince breaking off his engagement spread quickly throughout the capital, but the lax security was a real headache for the country.
Regardless of me, don’t you think it’s strange that the country’s Prime Minister would be exiled?
Yeah, I guess you don’t think so.
I sighed inwardly, thinking that the mere absence of Her Majesty the Queen could cause things to become so neglected, and that it was worrying for the country’s future.
“But even so, it’s amazing you managed to find a new house in just ten days, Father,” I said, turning my thoughts to the future.
“Yes, there was a man I looked after during my university days. He is now a general in the Principality of Delasland, where we are headed. He approached the princess there to ask if she would take us in. The princess was happy to accept us, and she quickly arranged for us to live there and find work,” Father replied.
I blinked in surprise.
I had heard that Father graduated from the top school on the continent, Delasland Public University. That’s why I also heard that Father, who graduated at the top of his class, was selected as an official for the Baumgarden Kingdom, which we were about to leave, and even rose to the position of Prime Minister.
With that in mind, I realized that those who relied on their acquaintances from Delasland Public University were all important people. It was no wonder that Father was friends with a general from another country.
“You’re amazing, Father, having a general from another country as your friend,” I said, honestly amazed.
Then Father tilted his head and looked at me strangely.
“But Anne, you know, you have even been given the title ‘The Blue Jewel of the Baden Family’ by Her Majesty the Queen,” he said.
“Is that because I inherited the blood of my father and mother?” I asked.
While attention tends to be focused on her father, who rose to become Prime Minister, her mother was also praised not only for her high status as a princess before her marriage but also for her beauty and intelligence.
Being born to such a couple, it was no wonder that I was brilliant… or so I told myself.
Actually, that wasn’t all.
I have memories of living another life. Perhaps I could call them memories of a past life. But strangely enough, the world I remember is completely different from the world I live in now.
Horse-drawn iron carriages run on the roads, and iron vehicles fly in the sky. Women dress beautifully regardless of their social status, and go out freely without a male escort. Speaking of social status, children read children’s books from an early age, and eventually attend school on an equal footing…
The memory came back to me when I was five years old and had a high fever.
Suddenly, all the knowledge I had learned in that other world came back to me.
As a result, the arithmetic teacher quit his job, saying, “Your Excellency understands everything. I have nothing to teach you.” After all, since calculations only had to be done using decimal numbers, just like in the previous world, there was almost nothing to learn. Moreover, for some reason, the numbers 0, 1, 2… just like in the previous world, are composed of Arabic characters. It’s too much of a coincidence.
By the way, I quickly realized that Baumgarten has the same syntax as English, just with different words. The surrounding foreign languages also have the same syntax, just different words, so I only had to memorize the words to replace them. So when my language tutor taught me, I finished faster than usual. All I needed to learn were the words and pronunciation. So when I had free time, I secretly took books from Father’s room and started learning other languages. I begged my teacher that I could speak other languages too. The teacher, who was enthusiastic about education, eagerly tackled my foreign language education.
With the mind of a child mixed with the thinking of an adult, I was able to learn anything with ease.
Perhaps in my previous life, I was a fairly intelligent and resourceful person.
