Abandoned talented woman decides to live a leisurely life with her family

Chapter 15

As the family was chatting away in a harmonious atmosphere, the carriage suddenly shook and stopped moving.

Then my father looked out the window and nodded.

“Well, it looks like we’ve arrived at our new home. I hope you all like it.”

As he said this, he nodded to the servant waiting outside the carriage, presumably indicating that it was okay to open the door.

My guess turned out to be correct, as the servant opened the door. First, my father, who was holding my younger brother Elmer, got out of the carriage while still holding him in his arms. Next, my mother, who received my younger sister Alma from me, got out, and finally, I followed.

Half of the servants who were supposed to accompany us had been sent ahead to prepare the new house. Perhaps that was why Leonardo, the head butler who accompanied us, opened the front door to reveal a new house whose exterior showed signs of age but whose interior was sparkling clean.

The building is apparently divided into the main house where the family lives and the dormitory where the servants sleep. We were, of course, shown to the main house.

“Wow, it’s shiny!”

“Is it bigger than our previous house?”

The twins, Elmer and Alma, were the first to rush in through the front door.

“Wow! A piano!”

Alma yelled, running past our mother toward the grand piano in the hall.

“I want to play the piano!”

“The tuning has been completed,” the head butler, Leonardo, smiled brightly at Alma.

To him, an elderly man, Alma may have seemed like a granddaughter. I felt that kindness from him.

With a smile still on his face, he picked up Alma, sat her in a chair, and opened the lid of the piano.

“Whoa!”

Alma’s eyes lit up at the glittering black and white keys that appeared from behind the pitch-black lid.

Leonardo didn’t stop Alma from touching the keys, so she reached out and tapped some of the white keys.

However, the piano keys seemed too big for her small hands, and she couldn’t reach the octaves.

“I can’t play it like Mother can,” she puffed out her cheeks and became in a bad mood.

Alma is five years old. I think if she chooses a song or one arranged for children, she might be able to play it… I remember a famous pianist from my previous life saying in a TV interview that she had been practicing on her mother’s piano since she was a child.

“Oh my. So, would you like to play with your mother?” Alma’s mother asked, trying to soothe her.

In response, Alma shook her head in refusal.

“No, I don’t want to. I want to play it myself!”

Seeing her throw a tantrum, I pondered. I’m sure there was a mini piano for children, too. A toy piano made to fit children’s fingers.

Judging from Alma’s behavior, she probably wants to imitate her mother and play. If so, she might be happy if you make her a mini piano.

— A mini piano for Alma? Then what should we get for Elmer?

I decided to keep it in the back of my mind.

After the hall, we were shown to the dining room where the family eats, the living room, and finally to our rooms.

As expected, Maria was my guide.

“My lady, this way.”

I was shown to a corner room on the second floor.

A camphor tree was growing healthily right by the window, and bright sunlight filtered into the room.

“Wow, what a lovely, bright room!”

The interior of the room was unified in a calm shade of blue. I actually prefer moss green, and my previous room was unified in that color. However, green is the color of my ex-fiancé’s eyes. Maybe that’s why she deliberately avoided that color.

“Thank you for your concern.”

When I told her that, Maria replied with a smile, “What do you mean?”

“You don’t want to be surrounded by a green room.”

The person I was engaged to from the age of 10 to 18. Our relationship as an engaged couple was good until I turned 17 and Sarasa showed up.

She was hurt emotionally and was also hurt by having her engagement broken off at a time when she was of marriageable age.

“You must be tired from your long journey, so please get some rest.”

And with that, Maria left the room.

I was left alone in the room.

With my shoes still on, I plopped myself onto the bed and looked up at the ceiling.

–The engagement is broken off, huh?

It must be especially painful at my age, I sigh.

–Before Elmer hears about my engagement, I’d like to decide on a husband too.

When my unmarried sister, that is, me, is at home, it makes the other young lady feel uncomfortable.

In reality, except for the eldest and second sons of noble families, boys would get good jobs and become independent, girls would marry into other families, and otherwise, they would have no choice but to live alone and be dependent on their parents.

If that were to happen to me, it would mean making Elmer’s partner feel uncomfortable, and I wanted to avoid that.

–It’s not like I have a particularly strong desire to get married.

It might have been possible when I was a child before I regained my memories of my past life, but now that I have regained my memories and am an adult, I think that an independent life like that in the other world might be good.

–Maybe I should start a business.

If a woman has money, can she stand on her own?

Such an idea suddenly crossed my mind.

In this world, there are so many inconveniences, just like in the Middle Ages or early modern times. There are many times when I wish I had things from that world.

If they don’t exist, then we can just create them in this world.

If I wanted to make something and sell it…how should I go about it?

Although I saw my future in making and selling things, I was worried about where to start.
