Adam's Simulator

Chapter 21: Busy night

[Bonus: As he dies you can see Elena's shocked and saddened eyes, but also see Marco's rage, as he attacked Jaguar, who was still in shape, without warning, and killed him in less than 10 exchanges before everyone's shocked eyes].

"It's fucking crazy, with such weak attributes, no rich and powerful family and no talents I managed to become a gang leader?"

"Part of the credit goes to my relationships with Elena and Marco, but still."

"Besides, Marco's a fucking monster."

As Adam analyzed his latest simulation, the simulator sent him his rewards.

[You're dead.]

[Simulation being analyzed.]

You have lived for 31 years.

[31 Yxa points rewarded.]

Your reputation in the region where you were born is ordinary. Your reputation in the town of Alicanta is unusual.

[8 Yxa points rewarded].

You have achieved gang leader status in the town of Alicanta, with over 200 men under your command.

[3 points rewarded]

[Total: 42 Yxa points rewarded.]

Your balance will be credited with 42 Yxa points.

"It takes 50 points to go from entry to small success for the body forging method, so it's best to keep those points aside for the next simulation."

"The more points I accumulate invested in the simulator, the better the simulations will be, and therefore the rewards too."

"But my strength in the real world remains the most important thing, so as soon as I have enough points to improve the body forging method, I'll have to improve it."

"The aim being to find a balance point between investments and dividends."

Adam didn't know much about economics, but he'd played a lot of strategy video games, so he knew how best to use this simulator.

"What's most important now is to succeed in finding spiritual stones."

Thinking about this, Adam felt a slight headache.

Spirit stones weren't usually available to apprentice warriors, only warriors and above had good access to these resources.

But at present he was only a rank 1 apprentice warrior, so naturally he couldn't claim them.

And his parents were clearly not rich, so even buying some might prove a complicated task.

"It's no big deal, a month between each simulation isn't very long otherwise. I need to concentrate on studying and practicing body forging first, and when I get stronger, opportunities to acquire spirit stones might present themselves."

Everyone needed spiritual stones, as they helped speed up practice.

But above all, they were indispensable materials for crafting quality weapons and armor, setting up attack or defense formations and making potions.

Their uses were manifold, hence the difficulty of acquiring them.

It got to the point where they had a price, but there was no market for them.

You had to have your own channels to obtain them.

At the moment, Adam couldn't do anything about it, so he simply closed his eyes and went to sleep.

Just as he was drifting off to sleep, a deafening noise was suddenly heard, a dull rumble that shook the walls of the house.

This woke him up immediately.

He scrambled to his feet, his muscles still numb from sleep but also from the pain of the assault he'd suffered the day before.

The air seemed heavy, almost suffocating, and a strange vibration ran through the city. He'd fallen asleep just a few hours earlier, but something was strange, everything seemed... too quiet.

He looked out of his window, and saw a blazing red moon anchored in a clear sky.

No stars were visible.

"What the hell?"

Before he even had time to think, the door to his room abruptly opened.

"Adam! Wake up, we have to go, now!" His father's usually calm voice was filled with urgency and panic. Behind him, his mother held his eight-year-old brother, whose eyes were also confused but also filled with fear.

Adam's gaze met his parents', and he knew immediately that a catastrophe was underway.

"What's going on?" Adam tried to find out more, his heart racing.

His father, Eric, seemed to hesitate for a moment before answering.

"There are creatures... monsters... attacking the city. We have to go to the walls to help the soldiers" Eric's voice was strained.

"You're big now, take Leo with you and leave immediately. Go to one of the city shelters."

Adam was in shock.

"What do you mean you're going to help the soldiers? Come with us to the shelter instead!?"

He swept his parents' faces with a look mixing anger, indignation and surprise.

How could they talk about defending the city as if it were their duty?

His mother, Eva, grabbed his arm, panic in her eyes.

"There's no time for questions, Adam. Go to the shelter. We... we have to protect the city, you have to understand."

Adam felt himself freeze. His parents weren't soldiers, at least not in his eyes. They weren't equipped to face anything. He tried to protest, but his mother gave him no time to speak further.

"We have a role to play here. We have to hold the walls." His voice trembled, but a fierce determination shone through.

His parents' words made no sense to him.

But time was against them now, and obviously he wasn't going to be able to change his parents' minds.

So without a word, he rushed to take his brother in his arms.

"I'll look after him."

His parents watched him go, their expressions marked by infinite sadness.

"Take care of Leo, Adam..." his mother murmured with tears in her eyes, struggling to leave.

"We've got to go, honey," Eric murmured in a firm tone.

"Hmm."

Eva huffed lightly, then the two of them rushed through the window, breaking it completely and running in the direction of the city walls.

"Fuck, my window..." murmured Adam speechlessly.
