Adaptae

What is happening here at all?! First, my mind took over my body and performed some crazy stunts out of nowhere. Also, I fought against some creatures known as drugs. I mean, whatever those dead skinwalkers were.

"What is happening here?! Can you explain it to me?!" I ask them.

I look at both of them to gain an answer from them.

"Also, what were those creatures?!" I ask them.

Silence is only greeting me. My mind is going out of control to get to know what is happening here. Something big is happening.

"Well, do you know what is happening here? I can't believe that you are just a newbie. I thought that you were some low ranker due to how you fought against them" Sophie told me.

"Those creatures you fought up against are known as Draugr. We gave them this name because their appearance matched the description found in the old sagas of Nordic ghostly undead(zombie) creatures"

This time, Kalki gave me this information.

"What?! You guys call them drugs?"

"No! Draugr means ghosts in the old Norse language!" Director yelled at me.

"How do those creatures exist at all in this world?! And how didn't we come to know them?!"

"There are many creatures in the world that you shouldn't find about at all" Kalki just gave me a playful smile.

How the hell can this guy keep smiling?!

"I mean, even if government is trying to hide their some sort of experiment, then how come these monsters didn't reveal to the world despite their beyond ordinary level"

"Do you know the government already announced that radioactive places shouldn't be explored by the people, right?" He told me.

"Yeah but this is not answer to my questions"

Sophie took a deep breath.

"You are newly joined here, it looks like. This is why you don't know anything about what we do and why the government spends too much money on us. Let me explain to you"

This is the question I always chase after. Why do rich people always survive and poor die? Why is money and fame important? The current question is, of course, drugs.

"Well, you see, when the world war broke out. The whole world was going in this war to become a superpower, but there were many countries whose armies were weak. So, to overcome manpower, one needs technology for that. It is still mystery that who launched the most dangerous weapon of humanity, atomic bombs, but due to this whole war, which was once an army and weaponry one got turned into nuclear war"

"How is it connected to those creatures?" I ask her.

"The war had unleashed something else, too. It was something that no one could have predicted. Those creatures are byproducts of those nuclear reactions. Dead bodies and the animals that came into contact with the radiation. Those beings got mutated, and for your second question how they never got revealed to the world. All the areas which are label with the tag as radiation high place is actually not fill with radiation but monsters like these, this is why it is forbidden place and no one had seen once they break this rule"

Her explanation is beyond my mind. What is happening? So, in the nutshell, those places which are labeled as forbidden as they are radioactive and whoever goes there never return…it was all a lie. Those places were actually inhabited by those creatures. Actually, not only by those but who knows how many.

Then I remember something else, too.

"Also, what does Adaptae mean?"

"Adaptae is the Latin term for adaptation," Kalki said.

"Adaptae are recently discovered newly superhuman race. They possessed high-level stats"

"Because I am able to defeat some mutated beings, it doesn't mean that I am a superhero or anything" I told them.

I can't believe how calm I am.

"Adaptae are born out of reaction of radiation. Adaptae are basically people who are able to react to the original radiation. Those people who are able to adapt are called Adaptae and who aren't able to adapt, they become various types of monsters" she told me.

I look down upon my hands. Those hands are covered by black gloves because…

"One of their traits is that they got a mutation somewhere on their body," Kalki pointed out towards my gloves.

"They also have a superpower. I know this is a weird thing and that it looks like it comes out of a shitty fictional story, but it is true that maybe you possess a superpower. I mean most of the Adaptae possess that" Sophie points out.

I know she is beautiful and the way she talks is also beautiful. So, I will accept whatever this beauty is saying.

"Okay. I possess some sort of supernatural ability but…I don't know what my power" I told them.

"It's okay. It happens," she told me. "We should keep moving before we get attacked. Of course, we got Adaptae on our side, but he isn't god, so he will not get tired" she commanded us.

We are walking by each other. I still have weird questions. My life is now upside down. I don't know what to do at all.

"You think that director is gorgeous?" Kalki suddenly whispered in my ear.

I jumped back suddenly.

"So, my guess was right. You started to like the director, right?" He asked me.

I look at Sophie, aka Director. She is walking like it is nothing.

"Her beauty enchanted your mind?" He smirks.

"No. Her personality. She is a good explainer and knows how to handle situations except very dangerous ones. But beauty is also a major point, but her personality is more beautiful" I told him.

"Why are you guys not walking?" She yelled from the distance she covered when we were talking.

"75" he whispers as he starts to walk.

What does it mean?

I follow them.

As we were walking, I saw that both of them were holding their position.

"What happened?" I look at what they are seeing. An army of drugs. Maybe around 50 in number.

"Can you handle them?" Sophie, in fear, grabbed my hand.

My heart skipped a beat. Her hands are soft. A girl's hand is that much soft. I can't believe it.

"I can. I can do anything" I told her.

I stand in front of them. Ready to battle them. I just need to awaken those feelings again.

Before I can do anything. Two arrows at very high speed destroyed some of them out of nowhere. Actually, those arrows were so fast that even I didn't know that they were arrows, but somehow I was able to see them.

Suddenly, a crash landing happened. Earth roars to quake. I fell down. I mean, everyone fell down from that superhero landing. When the smoke cleared. I saw a man…no giant man.

"Ha ha ha! Just give it a little twist and a twirl, and then I'll fold it up for you!" The man yelled to enemies.
