Alpha Raven | #1 in the Trueblood Series

Chapter 18: | 18 | What's wrong with Matt?

Charlotte hasn't taken her eyes off Azraiel from the moment he stepped into her room and he liked it. He liked it a lot.

His wolf was now purring at the attention he was receiving from his mate.

Azraiel had finished his work in a hurry so that he could drop by at the medical wing just like he said he would to

Charlotte in the morning. He has been looking forward to seeing her all day.

As soon as he stepped inside the medical wing, he smelled his Beta. This was the second time that this had happened. His feet dragged him to Charlotte's room and before he knew he had already opened the door to come face to face with a startled-looking Matt and Charlotte. He had no idea why but his wolf didn't like it. Matt and Charlotte in a room.

Nope...His wolf hated it and he did too. Although he trusted Matt, he absolutely hated that he was here before him. he absolutely hated that a man other than him was so close to his mate in his absence. He was sure that Matt could feel the intensity of his stare and the anger rolling off him. Hell, he was sure even Charlotte could feel it.

Matt made it even worse when he decided to ignore his Alpha and stormed off. It made him both angry and confused. He knew Matt since he was a pup. It wasn't like him to behave in this manner. That too when he completely knew about the bond that Azraiel and Charlotte shared.

When he entered her room it smelled like him. He had to force his feet away from her so that he could open the windows and let his smell out and also so that he could control his wolf. Lord knows she couldn't handle seeing him shift right now.

All the while he could feel her eyes on him. Even when he sat on the chair he could feel her assessing him, his fingers to be precise. Oh...He could give anything right now to know what she was thinking about him.

"Do you have any questions?...from the books I mean." Azraiel asked, wanting to hear her voice as much as he could.

"I have...I have a lot of questions but I think I'll get their answers when I'll read the other two books tomorrow." His mate replied.

Not wanting to end the conversation just yet, he asked, "How was your day?"

Azraiel watched as her face lit up with the question and a sweet smile graced her lips. "It was great. I even went to the garden today. It is really beautiful." He felt his lips lift at her enthusiasm. He couldn't wait to show her the pack lands. If she was so fascinated by the small garden then she would definitely love their pack grounds. He made a mental note to ask Dr. Humphrey if he could take her out of the medical wing tomorrow. His wolf has been on edge ever since he heard the story about her getting here. He constantly wished to be at his mate's side, both for her safety and his sanity. Spending some time with her would definitely relax him. It would also give him a chance to show her that she is safe here and maybe then she would find it easier to trust him.

Oh, Dear Moon Goddess...Please let her live...!!

Matt was waiting for his Alpha just outside his house. As soon as he left the medical wing in a rush, his Alpha's angry voice boomed through the mind link. He wanted to meet Matt in his office. Fuck...he was dead...

Matt pushed his trembling hands in his pockets as soon as he sensed his Alpha coming nearer. He slightly bowed his head towards him and quietly followed his Alpha to his office.

Matt waited for his Alpha to say something, but he was just sitting there glaring at Matt. Unable to meet his eyes for a second longer, he turned his head towards the side. He knew what this was about but he wasn't going to put his foot in his mouth by saying it aloud.

"Is there something you want to tell me, Matt?" He jerked his head towards the Alpha at the question. He breathlessly nodded and decided to save the worst for last.

"Yes..Alpha. I tried to contact the witches this morning but they were unavailable. I'll try again tomorrow. I also tried to get information about Grisham's and Luna's uncle." Matt watched as Azraiel twitched in his seat visibly interested now that his mate was mentioned.

"I have found the news articles from the local newspapers for the past week. Apparently, along with the Luna, the Grisham's are missing too. A few of their neighbours have attested to seeing them with our Luna on Saturday. They all think that the Grisham's and Luna ventured into the woods a little too far and are long eaten by a wild animal. No one was seen in their house after that. Luna's uncle, Arthur Smith had reported the police about their missing when neither his niece nor the Grisham's picked up his calls. He is now back from his business trip and searching for his only family alive."

Matt paused so that he could catch a break before letting out what he had discovered today.

He watched as his Alpha leaned forward and nodded at him.."Go on."

"I...I didn't want to leave any possibilities unexplored so I went and did some things you didn't specifically ask for. Although a lot of people said that they saw Luna with the Grisham's that day, no one had actually seen them together at the camping site or remotely close to the woods. They just saw them leaving together. Also, we had searched almost the entire woods trying to find a trace of rouges and we didn't come across the Grisham's; dead or alive. This made me doubt that they ever entered the woods. Plus, Luna also said that she didn't see them the next morning at the camping site. So I tried to explore other possibilities." Matt paused again still unsure of the way his Alpha would react. He was trying to summon up the courage to proceed further. His Alpha had every right to know everything about his mate. Yes..It was the right thing to do. Then why does it feel like you are betraying her?

"Matt..Finish what you were going to say. What did you find?" Matt could hear the frustration in his Alpha's voice. Deciding that he was already walking on thin ice here, he quickly continued.

"Apparently, The Grisham's are not missing at all. Once I found out their identities, I had sent their photographs to our people working at all bus stations, metros, and airports along with hospitals, hotels, and morgues. The Grisham's were seen at Rowville bus station at 4 in the morning on the day Luna entered the woods, Alpha."
