American Comics: The Strongest Villain

Chapter 17: Chapter Seventeen: Felicity Smoak

While Harley Quinn was drowning in despair, Su Sheng was having the time of his life driving the Batmobile.

Despite Gotham being under lockdown, the one bridge leading out of the city hadn't yet been sealed off. But no worries—Su Sheng could fly! He maneuvered the Batmobile into flight mode and soared over the bridge. The soldiers guarding it, determined to prevent anyone from leaving Gotham, opened fire wildly. The Batmobile's armor clanged with the sound of bullets, but it held strong. Su Sheng couldn't help but chuckle as he performed an S-turn in the air, then a B-turn, as if mocking the futile efforts of the soldiers below. He wondered if they could even comprehend the taunting maneuvers.

After crossing the bridge and leaving Gotham behind, Su Sheng switched the Batmobile back to racing mode. The engine roared to life, a deafening sound that served as a warning to the cars ahead. Sensing the danger, vehicles quickly swerved out of the way, giving the Batmobile a wide berth. Su Sheng drove aimlessly for a while, enjoying the ride until he eventually pulled over.

"Well, it's a gas guzzler, but it was worth it," Su Sheng remarked as the Batmobile sputtered to a stop, having run out of fuel.

He glanced at the map displayed on the dashboard and noticed that he wasn't far from Starling City. "Starling City? So, it hasn't been renamed to Star City yet? Well then, I might as well drop by and see the Green Hood—no, wait, the Green Arrow. Actually, Green Hood sounds better."

Stepping out of the Batmobile, Su Sheng surveyed his surroundings. He was in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by thick bushes and no signs of life.

"Time to move," he decided, orienting himself in the direction of Starling City. The Batmobile, now just a hunk of metal without gas, had served its purpose as a mode of transportation. If anyone wanted to take it, they were welcome to it—provided they weren't afraid of Batman showing up to reclaim it.

Su Sheng began to walk leisurely, taking in the scenery.

Car after car passed him on the road, but none slowed down or offered a ride. That is, until one did. A brown car drove past, then stopped ahead before reversing to where Su Sheng stood.

The window rolled down, revealing a young woman with shoulder-length hair and black-rimmed glasses. She looked like a college student, judging by her attire and demeanor.

"Um, do you need a ride?" she asked, sounding a bit shy.

"Of course," Su Sheng replied with a bright smile, pleasantly surprised by this unexpected encounter.

After getting into the car, Su Sheng thanked her politely.

"No problem," she mumbled, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. She restarted the car and pulled back onto the road, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, eyes fixed ahead.

"Are you nervous?" Su Sheng asked, noticing her tense posture.

"No, no. I'm just not very good at interacting with people," she admitted.

"Then why did you stop to give me a ride?"

"You didn't seem like a bad person, and I've never picked up a hitchhiker before, so I wanted to try it. Don't worry though, I may have only just gotten my driver's license, but I won't crash or anything. Are you traveling alone with just that bag? Starling City isn't the best travel destination, you know. Not much to see, and it's not the greatest place for job hunting either. But I'm not that picky. The Queen Group has good benefits, and…"

As she spoke, her words started to speed up, pouring out in a rapid, unbroken stream. It was as if she were talking to herself, completely lost in her thoughts.

Her voice grew softer as she noticed Su Sheng wasn't really listening. She turned to him with an embarrassed smile, aware of her tendency to ramble. "Uh, sorry about that. My name's Felicity Smoak, by the way. What's yours?"

"Su Sheng."

"Su Sheng? Are you Chinese or Korean? Definitely not Japanese, because Japanese names are usually longer…" Felicity's thoughts jumped from one topic to another.

"Did you mention Oliver Queen?" Su Sheng interjected.

Felicity blinked in surprise. "Of course, I've heard of him. The famous playboy. I heard he and his father were shipwrecked about half a year ago on the Queen's Gambit. And then…" She was about to dive into some juicy gossip when she noticed that Su Sheng wasn't paying attention.

The shipwreck happened half a year ago, so Oliver Queen should be on Lian Yu (Purgatory Island) right now. Even if Su Sheng went to Starling City, he wouldn't be able to see the Green Arrow in action just yet. It was a bit disappointing; after all, Green Arrow was infamous not just for his heroics but also for his colorful personal life. Superheroes might have their share of drama, but Green Arrow had a reputation for taking things to another level.

Su Sheng couldn't help but feel a bit let down by the realization that it would be some time before he could encounter the Green Arrow.
