Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Definitely Full
Xiu Nuo was feeling rather numb by now.
Ever since crossing over, he had encountered all sorts of people.
First, there was a bunch of idiots who left their peaceful lives to seek death and hardship, then a baffling fairy, followed by a compatriot who looked normal but had sold everyone out long ago, a robber with peculiar tastes, a 'teammate' who swiftly killed his own friends, a white man who spouted nonsense even as death approached, and now, in prison, he had met these inmates who treated the prison like a brothel.
I, Xiu Nuo, a Demon Cultivator, not to say born a Devil Child, am rather a famous cultivator who made it onto the kill list of the honorable Immortal Sect.
But here, I feel like I'm the true immortal cultivator!
The Demon Cultivation Holy Land lives up to its name, giving me, a mere minor Demon Cultivator, a huge shock right upon arrival.
After asking a few more things, Xiu Nuo started to meditate and rest on the bed.
As for the three inmates, they could only wait for their next cellmate now.
Before that, they could only endure their physical pain and rest obediently, intimidated by Xiu Nuo.
Meanwhile, they prayed that the pain would lessen a bit by tomorrow.
Moving on, Xiu Nuo began refining the Divine Soul belonging to Zhang Wenxuan.
Well, this guy's Divine Soul was of a rather high quality. Along the way, Xiu Nuo had been absorbing the Divine Souls and Essence Blood of those forty or so people, but only this Zhang Wenxuan required individual refining.
He had seen high-quality souls like this before, such as those fellow disciples from the Demon Sect who bore heavy blood debts.
However, now with a bit more understanding of this world, Xiu Nuo found that even the souls of drug traffickers didn't match up to this one.
"So, what exactly did you do?"
The Ghostly Vicious Energy, which had absorbed dozens of souls by now, finally began to look a bit like a Magical Treasure. Although its blade was still full of cracks, at least it didn't look like it was merely stuck together.
With a slight thought from Xiu Nuo, a black light blossomed from the Ghostly Vicious Energy and merged into Zhang Wenxuan's Divine Soul.
This guy had a tenacious will. Xiu Nuo was curious to see why.
Instants later, countless images unfolded in front of Xiu Nuo, most of them blurry, but the scene where a little girl screaming "Daddy" took money from someone standing next to Zhang Wenxuan was strikingly ironic and clear.
After watching for a while, Xiu Nuo figured it out.
This guy, in order to come here and gather money, selfishly sold his wife and daughter.
And not just once, the only difference being whether they were his biological kin or adopted.
It seems that this sort of thing is universally despicable, no matter where you are.
Soul Searching is also one of Ghostly Vicious Energy's capabilities, yet it couldn't use it now, so it needed to be combined with Xiu Nuo's magic.
And this magic was dependent on the Ghostly Vicious Energy, a roundabout way of casting spells and another reason why the Lifebound Magical Treasure is important.
"Every great evil attracts its own retribution," thought Xiu Nuo. "So, am I your retribution and destiny then?"
If that's the case, it still isn't enough.
For a soul like his, letting the Ghostly Vicious Energy simply absorb it would be too easy and a wasteful luxury.
Since the Essence Blood of Zhang Wenxuan within him hadn't been refined yet, now, coupled with the Divine Soul, Xiu Nuo indeed had a method to utilize this guy.
An Evil Soul! Or, it had another name — ghost.
To cultivators, it's considered a rather low-level slave, but here, it probably isn't ranked low.
However, such a trifle that was previously effortless now required some significant effort: using Essence Blood and Divine Soul as a catalyst, refined by the Ghostly Vicious Energy, it would probably take about a month for an Evil Soul to emerge.
Luckily, now that he had entered the Demon Cultivation Holy Land, safety... should be manageable for the time being.
Though Ghostly Vicious Energy could help with the refining, the initial preparations still had to be done by Xiu Nuo himself.
After finishing the refining, initially, this guy could serve as a hitman, and later as a Soul Pill to consume, which was simply perfect.
As everything drew to an end, the night passed just like that.
Xiu Nuo opened his eyes not long before the bell rang along with the guard's voice, "Time for breakfast, you bastards! Howard! Get your ass off that bed and grab your food! This is a prison, not a place for you to sleep in!"
Soon, the morning shift guard, pushing the meal cart, arrived in front of Xiu Nuo's cell. But upon seeing the situation inside, he burst into laughter, "Hey, Flan, that face of yours is hilarious. You got beaten up, didn't you?"
Flan didn't respond, merely taking his food quietly.
The breakfast was far from lavish; it was even somewhat scarce.
A box of milk, unknown to Xiu Nuo, in a small cup, some oatmeal, and a slice of toast.
Looking at the modest meal, Xiu Nuo skeptically asked Flan, "Does this fill you up?"
"This is a prison, sir." Flan said with an embarrassed look, "Not a restaurant. The meals are just to ensure we get the basic nutrition. I mean, this isn't even enough to fill the gaps between my teeth."
Xiu Nuo eyed Flan's over 200-pound figure, "You don't look like someone who would starve in prison."
Flan smiled awkwardly, "You can get extra food."
"Oh? How so?"
"Just pay. This is America! As long as you have money, you can get more than enough food in prison, you can even fuck women if you want, of course, you'd need to be very rich for that, which clearly, I am not."
Xiu Nuo's eyelids twitched.
But a few Mexicans didn't rush to eat. Instead, they eyed Xiu Nuo.
Xiu Nuo frowned, "What are you staring at me for? Want a beating?"
"No, no, no." Flan quickly waved his hands; he certainly didn't want this guy to start swinging again.
Last night's lesson had made it clear that he was like a child in front of this man, even if... he only looked like a child.
Flan explained, "We wait for you to eat first. If it's not enough, we still have some here. This…this is the rule here. You'll definitely get enough."
After saying this, Flan, as if remembering something, his face turned pale, quickly added, "By enough, I mean the breakfast we have."
Xiu Nuo was startled, I'm not a fool, of course, I know it's breakfast.
Wait a second!
There are things other than breakfast that can satisfy hunger here...
Fuck!
What the hell are these Mexicans thinking?
Xiu Nuo ate his breakfast with a dark expression, which intimidated the three Mexicans.
Only after making sure that Xiu Nuo wouldn't beat them again did they dare to eat.
About two hours later, it was time for recess.
Even Border Prison had recess time, and it was quite generous.
This wasn't about worrying whether the inmates would develop psychological issues, but purely for convenience.
They never worried about prisoners escaping because everyone knew, if you waited to be released, you'd get a legally illegal status.
But if you escape, you can forget about obtaining that legal status.
Moreover, many inside had turned themselves in.
The California border police are almost driven insane by just handling the calls of surrenders.
Sometimes they even wonder if they're really police or some kind of rescue team.
And none of the criminals here consider themselves as such; in their eyes, this is the darkness before dawn.
But in the eyes of the guards, they're just a bunch of maggots, itching for you to roll out early!
