Chapter 34: Not So Unexpected Encounter
The journey to the nearby town was supposed to be uneventful. Key phrase: "supposed to be."
About halfway there, I realized I was lost. The map Elder Wei had given me was useless- just squiggly lines and symbols that looked like a toddler's art project.
"Great," I muttered, staring at a fork in the road. "Left or right? Flip a coin, I guess."
I picked left, fully confident it was the wrong choice. Sure enough, it wasn't long before I heard rustling in the bushes.
"Bandits?" I whispered, clutching the scroll tighter.
Out stepped a rabbit. A really big rabbit. With glowing red eyes.
"Why? I don't even have fated!" I groaned.
The rabbit growled-yes, it growled-and charged. Panicking, I grabbed a rock and chucked it. To my shock, it hit the mark. The rabbit squealed and bolted into the bushes.
"That's right! Fear me!" I yelled, pretending my knees weren't shaking.
Dusting myself off, I carried on down the path, knowing full well this mission was just getting started.
