Chapter 29: Time to Train

After learning about the existence of Salem, The Relics, the Maidens and Magic, Ryder's mind was filled to the brim with worry. Earth is nothing like Remnant. There's a legitimate super villain on this planet and a whole secret organization devoted to stopping them. He and Kairos were now a part of some inner circle run by Ozpin. To him, it felt like he was drafted into a War. While Ryder was willing to help, he's worried about how it'll affect him and how he'll handle all of this. This is more than just finding a way home. This is now about Salem. He can't just leave this place the way it is. Sure, he can gather the Dragon Balls and make a wish to go home, but he would just be abandoning everyone. His friends and the allies he made. He can't just leave them behind. He'll help with defeating Salem and then try and find a way home. But he's not sure if he should though. He would be leaving his friends behind and wouldn't see them again. But he also wants to see his family on Earth again. His mind is a mess right now, so he won't think about the future and think about what's happening now.

Right now, Students of Beacon were going to shadow Huntsmen for who knows how long. All First Year Students are doing this. Ryder and Kairos weren't due to their shared tasks of training. Ryder isn't sure how Ozpin plans to train him, but he can't wait. He finally has someone to aid him in training which means that his progress will go much faster than it did before. He's glad. Currently he was standing in the auditorium or well the amphitheater alongside a massive crowd of people. He stood beside Team RWBY and Team JNPR with Kairos standing next to him. Ozpin and Glynda were up on stage and Ryder could tell a speech was about to happen. It's too good of an atmosphere to not have one.

"Quiet! Quiet, please. Professor Ozpin would like to share a few words before we begin." Glynda said, silencing the large crowd.

Oh boy, if only it was a few words.

"Today we stand together, united." Ozpin starts. "Mistral, Atlas, Vacuo, Vale. The four Kingdoms of remnant. On this day, nearly eighty years ago, the largest war in recorded history came to an end. It was a war of ignorance, of greed and of oppression. A War that was about much more than where borders fell or who traded with whom. But about the very idea of individualism itself. We fought for countless reasons, one of which being the destruction of all forms of art and self-expression."

Ryder looked around the room, everyone was respectful enough to stay quiet.

"And as you are well aware, that was something many could not stand for." Ozpin continues. "As a result, those who opposed this tyranny began naming their children after one of the core aspects of art itself: color. It was their way to demonstrate that not only would they refuse to tolerate this oppression, but neither were the generations to come. And it was a trend that is held to this very day. We encourage individuality, expressionism and unity through diversity."

Ryder thought back to some things back on Earth. Remnant is definitely a unique world compared to Earth.

"As I have said, today we stand together, united." Ozpin continued, once again. "But this bond cannot exist without effort. Which is why today, while the rest of the world celebrates peace, Huntsmen and Huntresses will work to uphold it. As first year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsmen or Huntress on a mission. Some of you may be taken out of the Kingdom for several days. Others may work within the walls for the rest of the week. But no matter which path you choose, remember to be safe, remember your training and remember to do your very best." Ozpin spoke, finishing his speech.

Ozpin steps away as the large crowd begins to disperse. Ryder and Kairos take their leave but are stopped by Ruby and the others.

"So, what are you guys going to be doing?" Ruby asks.

"Me and Kairos will be training." Ryder said.

"More training?" Yang asks.

"This time is special. Ozpin is training me."

Team RWBY and JNPR were shocked to hear this.

"The headmaster is going to be training you!?" Weiss asks in shock.

"Yep. I'm honestly excited. I finally have some aid in my training." Ryder said.

"Lucky." Yang said.

"Well, I won't hold you guys. Good luck on your shadow missions." Ryder said.

Kairos and Ryder walk off and leave the amphitheater. Once outside they see all of the people that were once inside the amphitheater, but they don't stay for long. The duo heads off to the dormitory to prepare themselves for training with their respective mentors. Once they reach their dorm room, Ryder equips his weapons while Kairos just changes into clothing more appropriate for training. A simple shirt with pants and shoes. Nothing too complex. Ryder just wears what he normally wears besides his school uniform. Once they were ready, they left the dorm room and as they exited the room they were met by the faces of Glynda and Ozpin.

"I take it the both of you are ready?" Ozpin asks.

"Yes, sir." Ryder said.

"Good. Mr. Hawthorne, you and Glynda will train in your secondary spot. Me and Mr. Falcone will be in the amphitheater." Ozpin instructs.

Kairos merely nods in acknowledgement. Glynda and Kairos walk in one direction with Ozpin and Ryder walk in the other direction. Ryder follows Ozpin to the amphitheater and once they arrive, he sees that it's completely empty. They walk into the center of the large building where Ozpin stops moving and Ryder stops behind him. Ozpin turns around with a calm expression.

"Now, I'd say we'll begin with flight seeing as you already attempted it." Ozpin said.

"Oh, so we're starting right now. Okay." Ryder said, not expecting it to start just like that.

"To start, we need to bring your magic forth. It lays dormant within one until it is tempted by another force. I suspect that when your Aura was unlocked, it accidently broke the barrier on your magic." Ozpin explained.

"Okay, how do I bring it forth?" Ryder asks.

"Some simple meditation. It doesn't take much, just meditate and concentrate." Ozpin instructed.

Ryder sits down on the ground and calms himself down before closing his eyes and concentrates on, well, anything really.

"That feeling you felt when you flew, try to replicate that feeling. Once you've found it, grasp it and unleash it." Ozpin instructs.

Ryder does just that. He concentrates on the feeling he felt when he flew back in the Forever Fall Forest. He manages to latch onto the feeling and tries to bring it forth, but it doesn't work. Ozpin can tell he's struggling.

"Calm yourself. You cannot force it to be unlocked. Calm your mind." Ozpin said.

Ryder then focuses on the feeling while calming himself down.

"Good. Now, reach your hand out and let that feeling flow." Ozpin said.

Ryder held his hand out with his eyes closed and latched onto the feeling. He then felt the sensation around his whole body before he heard something from Ozpin.

"Good job." Ozpin said with satisfaction.

Ryder opens his eyes and sees a ball of magic in his hand. It's orange in color.

"It's orange. Why is it orange?" Ryder asks.

"The color of one's magic differs from person to person. But yours is unique." Ozpin said. "And, I believe your training has begun. It will be long, and it will be difficult. Are you ready?"

Ryder closed his hand as the magical orb faded away. He stands up and looks Ozpin in the eye.

"I'm ready." Ryder said.
