Chapter 5: Welcome to Beacon
The Airship lands at Beacon Academy and the new students of said Academy are quick to disembark from the massive ship. However, one of the students rushes out and heads to the nearest trash can where he hunches over it and proceeds to lose his lunch. Poor guy. Our trio of heroes alongside a small group of students get off the ship and head down the paved path that leads into the front of the school. All three of them bask in the greatness before them. Beacon stood almost like a castle you would see in some fantasy series. it was truly mythical. Both Ruby and Yang are star struck while Ryder feels a little out of place. Ideally his outfit choice.
"The view from vale's got nothing on this!" Yang comments.
Ruby then takes notice of the weaponry wielded by the other students in the area. Unfortunately for Ryder and Yang, she goes full weapon fan girl mode and freaks out.
"Oh my gosh, sir! That kid's got a collapsible staff! And she's got a fire sword." gushes Ruby.
Ruby tried to get closer to the weapons, but Ryder grabbed her by the hood and dragged her back. Accidently hurting her a little.
"Ow, ow, ow" she winces as she's pulled back.
"Sorry." Ryder said apologetically.
"Easy there little sister. They're just weapons." Yang said.
"Just weapons? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us!" Ruby defends. "Oh, they're so cool."
"Can't you appreciate your weapon?" asks Ryder.
Ruby grabs her weapon and transforms it into it's scythe mode and proceeds to hug it like a loving mother. Ryder backed up as the blade nearly hit him.
"Of course, I'm happy with Crescent Rose! I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people, but better." Ruby said.
"What about my weapon?" asks Ryder.
"Oh I really like your weapon, Ryder!" Ruby said.
"Yay."
Yang then pushes Ruby and Ryder's hoods over their heads playfully. This covers Ruby's vision and Ruby attempts to push to hood back. Same with Ryder.
"Ruby, come on, why don't you got try and make some friends of your own?" Yang asks.
Ruby pushes her hood off her head and clears up her vision. Ryder gets his hood down and he straightens up his hair.
"But... why would i need friends if I have you and Ryder?" she asks.
"Well...." in a sudden blur, a group of other people surround Yang. "Actually, my friends are here. Gotta go catch up. 'kay, see ya bye!"
Yang and her friends quickly run off, leaving Ruby and Ryder all alone and in the dust. Ruby is unfortunately spun around by this quick departure, and it makes her dizzy.
"I don't know what I'm doing..." whines Ruby.
Ruby then fell onto a luggage cart, sending cases flying. Ryder caught one as he winces when Ruby falls. Soon, an angry girl is standing over her. This girl has white hair and blue eyes followed by an almost princess looking outfit. Oh boy, she was not happy.
"What are you doing!?" asks the angry Princess lady.
Ruby quickly gets up onto her feet and apologizes. Ryder put the suitcase down and was ready to defuse the situation.
"Uh, sorry!" Ruby apologized.
"Sorry!? Do you have any idea of the damage you could have caused?" the girl asks.
Ruby picks up one of the cases in an attempt to help but is confused for some reason.
"Give me that!" the girl said, snatching the case from Ruby's hands.
The girl opens the case to reveal multiple vials of Dust inside. The vials gave off a twinkling sound which confused Ryder who raised an eyebrow.
"This is Dust—mined and purified from the Schnee Quarry!" the girl said.
Schnee. Ryder recalls looking up something called the Schnee Dust Company. Apparently they're the number one provider of Dust in the world. Stationed in Atlas, the SDC mines a majority of the Dust and gives it out to the world. This might be seen as good, but Ryder has heard about their questionable actions.
"Uhh." Ruby said, unsure of what to say.
"What are you, brain-dead?" the girl asks.
Okay he's stepping in.
"Hey ma'am. Can we please be civil about this?" Ryder asks, trying to calm tensions.
The girl looked at him, her anger not subsiding.
"What? Are you her friend?" she asks.
"I am." Ryder replied.
"How about you make sure your friend doesn't make a screw up like this!" she said.
"Look, I understand your mad. But taking it out on someone who had apologized isn't handling the situation in a civil manner. So just calm down and think this through." Ryder said, calmly.
"Calm down? You want me to calm down after she almost caused an accident!?" the girl argues.
The girl grabs a red vial of Fire Dust and shuts the case she was holding. Some ash particles get into the air and near Ruby.
"Dust! Fire, water, lightning, energy! This stuff could've exploded!" she said.
"I know what Dust is, ma'am. But please be civil about this." Ryder said.
"I'll be civil when this idiot understands what damage she could've caused!" the gilr said.
Ryder glared at her.
"Hey! Don't call her that!" he said, snapping at her.
"Or what? She could've caused an incident!" the girl said.
"Says the one causing one." Ryder said, glaring at her.
While they argued, Ruby's nose was being attacked by the airborne dust particles. Ryder noticed and hsi eyes widened he then takes a few steps back. The girl was confused and looked at Ruby just as she sneezed, causing the dust particles to mix and explode. The vial that the girl held went flying across the courtyard as Ryder winces. Maybe he should've pushed her out of the way. If the girl wasn't mad, oh she was bloody livid now.
"Unbelievable! This is exactly the kind of thing I was trying to warn you about!" the girl said.
"Well, you were the one shaking around the dust vial." Ryder commented.
"don't try and put the blame on me!" the girl said.
Ruby couldn't take it and snapped.
"Stop shouting at him, Princess!" Ruby shouted, defending her friend.
"It's Heiress, actually." said a new voice.
Everyone looked in its direction. They see a girl with black hair, amber eyes and a bow on her head. Ryder thought they looked like cat ears. The girl also held the vial of dust that went flying from the explosion.
"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company. One of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world." said this new girl.
The now named Weiss Schnee gets a smug smile on her face as she looked at Ryder and Ruby.
"Finally! Some recognition!" Weiss said.
"The Schnee Dust Company... isn't that the company infamous for questionable business partners?" Ryder asks.
"The very same, and don't forget their controversial labor forces." said the new girl.
Weiss gets angry while Ruby chuckles from the words Ryder and this new girl said.
"What- how dare- the nerve of... ugh!" Weiss just gave up trying to argue.
Weiss gets up into the new girl's face and snatches the vial before walking off with a huff as her helpers gather the luggage and follow. Ryder sighs as he watches her storm off. He didn't want to make an enemy, but he thinks he just did.
"I promise I'll make this up to you!" Ruby shouts, still sorry. She then sighs. "I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day... so, what's-"
Ruby had turned to talk to the new girl but said girl was walking off. Ryder looked in her direction but heard someone fall to the ground. He looked down and saw Ruby on the floor.
"Welcome to Beacon." said Ruby, all disappointed.
"It'll be fine Ruby. It's just the first day. Maybe we can make peace with Miss Princess." Ryder said, trying to lift her spirits.
"Yeah... I guess you're right." she said, sitting up.
Ryder held his hand out and she grabbed it. Ryder pulled her up off the ground. The boy who vomitied into the trash can walks over all nervous. Ruby and Ryder look at him as he waves.
"Hi uh, I'm Jaune." he said, introducing himself.
"I'm Ryder, this is Ruby." Ryder said, introducing himself and Ruby.
"Hello." Ruby greets.
She then recognizes the boy.
"Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?" she asks.
"Ruby!" Ryder scolds.
