Chapter 57: Looking After Someone
He cast a disdainful glance at Lu Ming. "Who knew that when you were born, you would turn out to be a boy?"
Lu Ming scratched his ear, already accustomed to this familiar lament. He had heard such complaints no less than eight hundred times.
Old Master Lu continued, "How wonderful it would have been if you were a girl."
Lu Ming scooted a few steps away on the sofa, his tone full of reproach. "Grandpa, even though you favor girls, you can't just dress me up as one. Besides, why pick on me? Isn't my brother also a boy?"
Old Master Lu huffed and puffed, his eyes bulging in exasperation.
If only he could! But Fu Hanchuan, that cunning brat, was always one step ahead, avoiding him at all costs. Eventually, he didn't bother hiding anymore and issued a stern warning: if Old Master Lu ever dared to dress him as a girl, he would destroy the dollhouse that the old man had painstakingly set up.
So, with only Lu Ming left to pick on, Old Master Lu set his sights on him. When Lu Ming was little, he had slightly longer hair, which Old Master Lu styled into three little ponytails. He dressed him in a pink princess dress, and with his exquisite, pretty face, whenever he took him out, people would gush about the beautiful granddaughter he had, making Old Master Lu swell with pride.
But as Lu Ming grew older, Old Master Lu lost his opportunity to dress him up. When dressed as his granddaughter, he adored him; but the moment he donned boys' clothes, he couldn't hide his disdain.
Thus, every time Lu Ming was at home, Old Master Lu found various excuses to criticize him.
Old Master Lu, with a stern face, said, "Lu Ming, I heard you're studying at H City High School. There's a girl in Class Four of the senior year there too. I want you to take good care of her."
Lu Ming nodded repeatedly, breathing a sigh of relief.
He thought it would be something much worse; after all, looking after someone wasn't a big deal. Taking care of one person or two wasn't that different.
He extended his hand with a playful grin, "Grandpa, is there any reward for me? I won't do it if there isn't. My brother asked me to take care of someone too, and he gave me a top-of-the-line computer for it, worth over a million yuan."
Old Master Lu, fuming, brought his cane down on Lu Ming's hand. "I ask you for help, and you dare ask for a reward?"
"But I'm broke," Lu Ming replied.
After being swindled by QS for over a million yuan, and with no allowance in sight, Lu Ming was quite poor, not daring to go anywhere.
Realizing something, Old Master Lu's heart skipped a beat. "Wait, did you just say your brother also asked you to look after someone?"
"Yes, a girl," Lu Ming gossiped gleefully. "Grandpa, it seems Brother's finally found someone. You should get ready to welcome a great-grandchild. Although, she's still underage, so it might be a few years before you get to hold one. Brother is already twenty-three; doesn't that make him a cradle robber?"
Old Master Lu glared at him. "Get lost!"
Now in a foul mood, Old Master Lu was upset that Fu Hanchuan had beaten him to the punch in having Qin Sheng looked after at school.
Lu Ming: "..."
Looking bewildered, had he said something wrong again?
Eager to escape, Lu Ming had barely risen from the sofa when a pleasant voice reached his ears. "Grandpa Lu."
The voice was melodious and distinct, immediately reminding Lu Ming of Qin Sheng. He looked over, scarcely daring to believe his eyes.
There she was, walking in, with his brother, Fu Hanchuan, standing right beside her.
Lu Ming's eyes widened.
His brother had not only wooed his future sister-in-law but had also brought her home to meet the family?
Wasn't this all happening a bit too fast?
Qin Sheng wasn't someone who acted without reservation. How could she have gotten together with his brother so quickly? It didn't make sense!
And yet, in the next moment, he wished he could plunge into cold water to clear his head, wondering if the world had gone mad.
