An anti-hero with Rimuru's abilities in dc

Chapter 21: ### **Chapter 22: Unseen Forces**

The chill of the underground subway station felt different this time. The air was thick with the weight of urgency, and the survivors who had once been calm and composed now wore expressions of palpable worry. Word of the Aegis was spreading quickly, and the resistance groups—small as they were—knew that they were now caught in a far larger game than they had ever imagined.

Rimuru paced the command room, his mind racing. The name Aegis lingered in his thoughts, a threat he had never expected to encounter in this chaotic version of Gotham. As far as he knew, no group by that name existed in any of the timelines he had studied, which meant this was a new, formidable force working in the shadows of the world he had been sent to.

"How bad is it?" Serena's voice broke through his concentration. She stepped into the room, her expression tight, but her usual calmness intact.

"I'm still processing the encounter," Rimuru said, turning to her. "But one thing's clear—they're not acting alone. The Aegis has the backing of some significant forces, and they're not going to stop until they neutralize everyone who stands against the Regime."

"So, what's the plan?" Serena asked, crossing her arms.

Rimuru exhaled slowly, feeling the weight of responsibility pressing on him. "First, we need to secure the groups we already have. I've seen what happens when we're scattered. We need to unite every resistance cell in Gotham before the Aegis makes their move."

"And then?" Serena asked.

"Then," Rimuru said, a faint smile tugging at his lips, "we strike first."

The days that followed were spent in constant motion. Rimuru, with his uncanny ability to manipulate the world around him, traveled between the scattered safehouses. His presence was often enough to convince the more skeptical groups to join the resistance, but his calm demeanor and overwhelming power were what truly earned their trust. They hadn't yet realized how far-reaching Rimuru's influence could be.

In the meantime, Rimuru had begun to learn more about the Aegis. It wasn't long before he discovered that their operations were coordinated, precise, and incredibly resourceful. Using a combination of stolen Regime tech and their own advanced capabilities, they were able to stay one step ahead of any conventional pursuit. The Aegis was well-funded, well-equipped, and well-organized—a force designed for precision, not brute force.

Rimuru's mind raced as he sifted through the fragmented intelligence he had gathered from his time in Gotham. The Aegis wasn't interested in simply neutralizing the resistance. They were targeting specific individuals—those who had the potential to disrupt the established order.

Rimuru realized that he was one of those targets.

"They're hunting me," he said aloud, his voice sharp with realization. "They're not after the resistance as a whole. They want me. I'm the greatest threat they've faced."

Elena, who had been sitting nearby, looked up, her expression grim. "Why? What makes you such a threat?"

Rimuru met her gaze, his eyes cool. "I'm a wildcard. The Aegis can't predict what I'm capable of. I'm not just some leader rallying the people. I'm a living weapon with access to magic and abilities that they can't even comprehend."

"So what do we do about it?" Elena asked.

Rimuru smiled, his demeanor steady as ever. "We use that against them."

---

Rimuru spent the next few days reinforcing the resistance's strength. He used his magic to establish hidden communication networks, created defensive barriers around key locations, and provided the groups with advanced technology to boost their odds. But even with his help, he knew they were still at a disadvantage. They needed more—more knowledge, more strategy, more allies.

During one of his travels to a distant safehouse, Rimuru was confronted once again by the Aegis. This time, they didn't make a subtle entrance. Instead, they appeared with a show of force, a squad of masked individuals who materialized out of thin air, their presence sending an electric jolt through the city's air.

They had learned to track his movements.

"I've been expecting you," Rimuru said calmly, standing tall in the middle of a decrepit alley, his eyes glowing faintly with the power he was holding back. The Aegis members—at least a dozen of them—surrounded him in a loose formation, their cloaks billowing ominously.

One of them, the same one he had encountered before, stepped forward. "You shouldn't have come here," the figure said. "You're making a mistake, one you won't be able to walk away from."

Rimuru's lips curled into a faint smile. "A mistake? I'm afraid you're the one who's mistaken. You're far outmatched."

The Aegis agent gave a low laugh. "Is that so? You may think you're invincible, but even someone like you has limits. We've studied your abilities. We know what you can do. But we also know what you can't."

"And what's that?" Rimuru asked, genuinely curious.

The figure's eyes gleamed behind their mask. "You can't stop us. No matter how powerful you are, we're too many. We're everywhere. And when we strike, we don't miss."

Rimuru's face remained passive, his mind already working out the best course of action. "You're confident. But confidence doesn't win battles. Strategy does."

Before the Aegis could react, Rimuru's body shimmered, and in a blur of motion, he split into multiple versions of himself. Each one was identical, a perfect clone with the same power, same abilities, and same unshakable resolve.

The agents hesitated, their formation faltering as they attempted to locate the real Rimuru. But he was everywhere, and nowhere. He was the wind, the shadows, the space between their thoughts.

"Can you even tell which one of us is the real one?" Rimuru's voice echoed from every direction. "Because I can't see a single one of you as a threat."

A few of the Aegis agents attempted to counterattack, but their efforts were futile. Each of Rimuru's clones acted in perfect harmony, disarming them, blocking their attacks, and incapacitating them without causing harm. But he wasn't finished. He needed answers.

He reformed his original body, standing tall before the agents. "I want information," he said coldly. "Tell me everything you know about the Aegis and who's backing you. Or I'll make sure you regret this encounter."

The masked leader narrowed their eyes, weighing their options. "You don't scare me, creature. You can't break us."

Rimuru's smile widened. "That's where you're wrong. You've already broken yourselves."

In an instant, he summoned a surge of magic, disarming the remaining agents in one fluid motion, rendering them unconscious.

With a glance, he turned back to the direction of the safehouse. "This is just the beginning," he muttered. "I'm going to make sure your precious Aegis regrets underestimating me."
