An Exorcist Magical Girl!

Chapter 20

The flesh-thirsty ghost waited until enough bug bodies were gathered in the trash can.

Then it broke its soul into pieces and entered each of the bug corpses.

The result was this

“hand”

ghost.

It flexed and snapped its fingers, made up of chunks of corpse, as naturally as a real human body part.

Now I have a sense of what happened.

We can’t leave it now.

I grabbed a mop from the back of the classroom.

I still had a pair of slippers left, but I wanted to avoid closing the distance between me and that horrible mass as much as possible.

《Skill: A Craftsman Wears No Tools has been activated》

 BANG!!!

The bronze-colored hand flicked out, reaching for the knife on the desk, but I swung the mop in a hasty motion, knocking the hand ghost to the floor.

Then I yelled.

“Cover it!”

Seo Jun, understanding my meaning, rushed over and flipped the trash can over the fallen mass.

And then she placed several heavy textbooks on top of it.

Thunk, Thunk, Thunk

Inside the overturned blue trash can, the sound of soulful corpses hitting the plastic walls rang out intermittently.

 “You’re right. Come here.”

Seo Jun, who had sealed the gap between the trash can and the floor, approached quietly.

“It’s really a ghost without a core.” “You’re only half right. That ghost that’s roaming around right now is only the “coreless part”.”

Now that I think about it, I seem to have a tendency to get half the answers right, as I did with the last ghost.

Anyway, here’s what happened!

The first ghost we saw wasn’t the only one.

I was sure of it when I saw that it had just split its soul between dozens of bodies.

This bastard had divided its soul into many parts, and the parts that didn’t have a core were the ones that roamed around and showed themselves to people.

“Eh, that’s why I couldn’t see the core. Because it didn’t have it! It was somewhere else!”

I concluded

.

So now comes the most important part.

Where is the part with the core?

Well, that’s a problem for later, so let’s just move on.

“Seo Jun, did you see that? It’s trying to pick up that knife.”

I said pointing at the knife.

“Yeah, I saw it. I don’t think it’s just trying to get a random body.”

Seo Jun replied.

“That’s what I think too. I think it will kill someone to get a body.” “Well, you’re half right again, because I think that’s what they’ve always been about.”

I thought she said they were just hanging out.

I’m 50% correct, and we have to get through this with a combined 100% correct answer rate!

What kind of situation is this?

Anyway, the important thing now is that we know that the ghost’s objective was a human corpse.

I explained.

“If it had taken the monster’s body earlier, it would have bitten and killed a human along the way, then switched to a human body. So the part of the soul with the core wanted to wait until it had a human body before joining it.”  “I suppose so.”

Seo Jun thought so too.

“Oh, wait. I guess it can’t kill people while it’s a ghost.” “I guess so.” “Even with the power to invade so many people’s minds?”

I asked.

The thing on the playground could be seen and heard by the entire school.

Why would a ghost with that much power not kill people right away and target other corpses first?

“There are some ghosts that can manipulate sight and sound, but not physically. I’m guessing this one is one of those, since it can’t possess living creatures.”

Seo Jun answered.

“Ah, so if it could, it’d be wreaking havoc all over this place, possessing everyone.” “I think it drew the bugs in somehow, too. It made a noise that irritated the bugs or something.” “Ugh.”

Apparently, it’s impossible to physically affect people as a spirit and requires an actual body.

Since it can’t use monster carcasses, it turned to the most common creature around, a bug.

Humans kill them when they see them.

It was the best way to secure a vessel for its soul.

“Mr. Bugs, you’ve been taken advantage of.”

I muttered

“Do you feel sorry for them?”

she asked.

I answered automatically.

“No.”

Now that the situation has come to this, the immediate priority is to get rid of the souls.

That means getting rid of the corpses all over the school.

***

You never know when they’ll try to harm someone with their soul and if all those corpses come together to form a fully functioning human being.

It’s a real disaster. Visually.

I’m pretty sure we’re going to have to burn them to the ground, because if they’re still in shape, the ghost can harbor their souls.

“Guys, does anyone have a lighter?”

I shouted at my classmates.

This is a classroom at a good girls’ high school.

The only people here are good, law-abiding students.

I doubt anyone has a lighter.

If it were me, I’d pretend I didn’t have one.

After hearing my story, the class president, Min Jiyoon, looked around the class and relayed my words once again.

“Guys, I think she needs a lighter. Does anyone have one? Oh, Teacher, do you have a lighter?”

But the teacher shook her head, saying she wasn’t a smoker.

Then.

“I have a lighter.”

What? Who is that?

All eyes turned to the direction the voice came from.

“What? I’m going to roast marshmallows.”

It was Hanbyul Cha.

“Who has a lighter? Oh, it’s Hanbyul. Oh well, marshmallows huh.”

The teacher’s eyes turned to the sound of the lighter and she snorted, but when she realized that it was Cha Hanbyul, her face became a little more convinced.

“Hanbyul, I’ll borrow it for a while.”

But Cha’s lighter was not enough.

After burning half of the corpses in the classroom, the lighter’s life was over.

“How many bugs did you roast?”

Han-young grumbled as she watched.

“Um, are you studying for a major in magical engineering? Do you know how to use annihilation or fire-related magic?”

She asked.

Shouldn’t I, a former magical girl, be the one to step up?

Actually, when I deleted my Magical Girl talent, all my magic powers were deleted.

All I have left is the theory of magic, and I can’t perform magic with my hands.

“I’m an aspiring major, but I’ve only studied enough to fill in the details of the biology department. I’ve never actually practiced magical engineering, just preparing for the SATs.”

Seo Ha-young interjected.

“No high school student who wants to be a doctor has ever actually performed surgery.”

she continued.

 “That’s true.”

I replied.

“Gymnastics students work out before they go to gymnastics. Music students play instruments before they go to music school.”

she added.

“That’s different.”  “Well, if you have to get rid of it completely, can’t you just grind it into a powder?”

Min asked.

“That would be best for now. Otherwise, I guess we’ll have to see if any of the teachers in the staff room have a lighter.”

I answered.

“Okay, let’s do what we can, students, get your gear!”

But despite Min’s curious shout, only a few students took out their equipment.

Perhaps no one wanted to participate in the grinding of the bug’s corpse.

“I’ll pay for the grapefruit, so I’m out.”

This was the majority opinion.

A savior came to the rescue, and it was in the midst of the

“I’d rather pay”

comments.

“Oh? Joo Yeon-seo sent a message.”

I checked the class group chat.

“It’s Joo Yeon-seo! Lighter! Tell her to get a lighter!” “Can’t minors buy lighters?” “If you threaten them with a knife, won’t they give it to you?” “You bastard, you’re going to send Yeon-seo to jail.” “Forget it, stop using that frowny face emoji.”

Min Jiyoon quickly relayed the situation to Joo Yeon-seo.

The message back was more hopeful than she could have imagined.

“Why does she have a flamethrower at home?” “Uh, well, whatever, tell him to bring it, it’s much better than a lighter!”

And just like that, our savior would return with a flamethrower.

By then, we knew what we had to do.

“Aaahhhh! Who’s that!”

We heard the next class yell.

“The corpses in the other classroom are enough to hurt someone, so I’m going to stop it. The rest of you, gather the bodies for burning.”

Min Jiyoon took the lead.

“Everyone! Grab your brooms! Let’s gather them on the playground!”

To my delight, almost all of the students helped this time.

It’s not a pretty sight, but it’s better than grinding it into powder.

And then came the supporting shots.

“I’m a member of the broadcasting club! I’m going to broadcast to collect the bodies and bring them to the field!”

Hanbyul Cha opened the door and ran out.

“Hey, wait! Open it carefully!”

Luckily, the bugs in the hallway had already crawled into the other classes and disappeared.

Thankfully, the class didn’t get bombarded with bugs if they opened the door without thinking.

“Go!” “Yaaaaaaaah!”

Students with brooms and dustpans scrambled out at the command of the class president.

I, too, left the classroom with a mop protected by my aura

.

There was a ghost in the next class, right?

“Do you need help?”

Seo Jun asked quietly from behind me.

“Um, actually, I have a favor to ask.” “For free?”

Seo Jun smirks, as if she’s been waiting for it.

“Ms. Seo Jun, what can I do for you?” “Can you let me pick your next mission?”

I thought she was going to take my grapefruit, but the request came out of nowhere.

Apparently, we were supposed to go on another mission together.

I remembered my promise as we walked out of the Rapid Transit station.

After all, I don’t know much about missions or exorcisms.

So it wouldn’t be a loss to me to let Seo Jun choose a mission or two in the future.

“A mission? Okay.”

Seo Jun nodded with satisfaction and cut to the chase.

“So, Baek Iri, what can I do for you?” *** BANG!!!

“Get out of here, you demon!”

I scrambled to the other half of the room in time to shove a mop at the bronze-colored mass in front of me.

It formed a hand again, clutching a sharp piece of glass and going on a rampage.

“Where are you going!”

This time, I succeeded in knocking the spirit out of the corpse.

The corpses tumbled to the classroom floor as they lost their internal control.

Just then, a broadcast came over the loudspeaker.

Cha Hanbyul’s voice crackled and echoed throughout the school.

“Attention, students. We will be collecting the bug carcasses on the playground and disposing of them all at once. We know it’s gross, but we ask for your cooperation. This is a reminder.

The broadcast was going smoothly.

─And for those of you who have had problems with ghosts appearing in your classrooms or bugs resurfacing, please be aware of the attacks and contact Baek Iri, 2nd year class 4. You can find her phone number on the bulletin board in the hallway.”

Cha Hanbyul dutifully broadcasted the favor I had specifically requested.

*Ding, ding, ding.*

I couldn’t wait for her to finish her message.

I grabbed the mop and started walking quickly.
