Chapter 25: Casualties and more casualties
Sean didn't say a word. How could he? He didn't have lungs or vocal cords to make sounds with. Sean simply stared at elbaf and rhythmically swung a bell behind the shield. It was a simple silver bell, that produced extra loud sounds, so Elbaf paid it no mind and began approaching the spearman slowly.
His hammer was held strong, as he walked towards Sean and Sean kept ringing the bell in his hand...
*God damn! That's quite a decent few memories! My boys over there are really going mad with the slaughter, but that's to be expected. Echoes don't need food, water, rest blood transfusions and such. They just keep going and only stop when killed! They are getting my civilian memories, but any memory that exists is soul essence and sould essence is fuel I can burn with my blazing glory and the fire I can fire bomb with! A complete feedback loop!*
Chiron marched towards the next tower to massacre... But a certain system message caught his attention.
*Huh? One of my Echoes have slain a soldier. So, I guess the piss-ants are here and I need to go and meet up with my boys. Now, which direction are they?*
Chiron quickly dismissed his memories and climbed on top of the tallest house he could see around him and the first thing he noticed was a giant ring of soldier between several houses.
*So... My boys are there! And this size means the big bad c"nt is here! Elbaf! Time to die!* Chiron sported a mad smile, as he jumped on the rooftops and headed towards the encirclement. More beast than man at this point, his massacre stopped for a moment, as his goal had been achieved!
Sean held his shield, as he jumped back towards and alley, making sure to keep ringing his bell, as 2 other bell sounds suddenly rang out and, within seconds, the group of 20 soldiers were back together.
The Echos dived into the same alley as Sean and held a line. 4 Echoes with sword stood in front to tank, as Sean's spearmen Held the back and were at the ready to store any moment. The rest of the non-spesrmen Echoes stood off to the sides, ready to replaces their brethren if they took too much damage or lost a limb.
This formation was specifically taught to Sean by Chiron to to minimize Elbaf's numerical advantage, while using their spears as a crowd control weapon. Even though Sean wasn't giving any verbal commands, all the echos understood what to do and executed the orders given with impunity!
... But this fight was over before it began. They were simple dormant soldiers, they weren't Chiron. They stood no chance against an ascended of the Guardian Corps and his soldiers.
A burly man rushed in with a sword raised to strike them down, but he didn't get far. Sean's spear met his throat and the man was dead within a second! Their line held for 10 minutes of struggling, replacing one another constantly, but so could the enemy soldiers and the wounds accumulated. By the 10 minute mark, the first soldier got his head smashed in by a hammer and died!
Elbaf had finally appeared at the front line and was swinging his hammer with intent to kill. His bulky previous armour replaced by lightweight leather, while his height was massively reduced, down to 5'7" and, unlike Chiron, his mobility wasn't impacted in the least! That is the difference between a master ascended and a dormant aspect user.
Elbaf rushed at the Echoes, not scared of being injured in the slightest, but 8 spears met him in his path and severely weakened his march, but he still swung down with enough force to shatter any dormant Echo.
Fortunately for the victim Echo soldier, Sean was ready, as his spear seemed to blue and instantly kill 3 soldier approaching his companions and hit the other echo on the head with the blunt side of his sear, which was barely enough to knock the Echo away, causing a divination in Elbaf's swing.
A couple seconds later, Elbaf's hammer descended upon another swordsman echo, but this one wasn't so fortunate. Whatever Sean had done caused his hands to shake and his spear to become damaged. If he swung once more, it would be destroyed *Make sure you all don't lose a single memory at any cost!*
Chiron's command played out in his head, as he became indecisive and hesitated. Elbaf, while not as fast as most ascended, only needed this opportunity and he swung for the kill of another Echo! But before he could make contact, his body stopped in mid-swing. His spine went stiff and his legs began wobbling. His arms were locked in place and he could do nothing.
"EEEeeelbaaaff!" A thin and distorted voice called out his name and he didn't dare even move an inch in fear of the burning sword under his neck.
Even if the sword wasn't there or his mind don't remember that voice, his body did. Every second he heard that voice call out to him, more of his inadequacy would rear its head in the form of hundreds dead by his command. He shuddered, as he looked down and saw the man he never wished to meet looking at him with the wicked smile he fears.
"Heeeeeelllooii! My deeeeear Eeeelbaffd!"
