Chapter 27: Chapter 27
[Peter's POV]
"I'm getting home incredibly fast. It's only seven in the evening. Awesome."
"I'm home!"
"Hi, Peter. How was your first day of school?"
"It's great, Aunt May. Can you believe it? Gwen and I were sent by the school for an internship at New York University. I'm sure it'll be really helpful for college applications."
"That's wonderful, I'm so proud of you."
Aunt May hugged me.
"What are we proud of?"
Suddenly, Uncle Ben asked, walking into the house and leaving his briefcase in the hallway.
"I'm telling Aunt May that they've taken away even the small amount of free time I had and, on top of that, sent me for an internship at New York University from Midtown School."
"Really? That's awesome, champ!"
Uncle Ben joined the hug.
"I know. Thanks. I also wanted to warn you that I'll be coming home even late now, but I promise I'll send texts or calls beforehand."
"Alright, Pete. But only because it's good for your studies."
Ben reluctantly agreed.
"Since we've decided, let's have dinner. I baked a banana muffin."
Aunt May called us to the table.
After dinner with my family, I made up an excuse about work at the lab and went upstairs to grab my things.
I packed everything I needed into my backpack and lay down on the bed for fifteen minutes. Opening my messages, I began to text my girlfriend.
"Hey, beautiful, I'm texting to brag that I've been assigned an internship at a science lab and apologize that I won't be able to hang out today."
"Hey, Tiger, congratulations! And it's fine, I still need to work on some school projects, so no time for walks."
"Do you need help?"
"Mr. Parker, I may be attractive, but I'm not lacking in intelligence either. I'll text if it gets complicated, but for now, you go ahead with your scientific breakthroughs, Tiger. Love you."
"I love you too. Good luck."
Well, that's great.
I jumped out of bed and leapt through the bedroom window under cover of darkness.
I carefully climb down the wall, look around, and head down to the basement to prepare.
After about half an hour, I put on my suit and flew out into the city to patrol.
...
Queens.
Flying through the air, I latch onto a flagpole, spin around, and use the momentum to propel myself upwards.
I landed on a multi-story building and observed the city. From here, I even have a great view of Central Park.
"Hey!"
I said, looking from above at an old man in a semi-mechanical green suit with TWO BIRD WINGS flying by.
Surprisingly, the Vulture, none other than Adrian Toomes in the flesh.
Alright, alright, I won't attack, I'll try talking first.
I jumped off the top of the building and shot a web toward a building along the route of the Vulture.
"Excuse me, sir, could you tell me how to get to Washington Park?"
"What?! Who the heck are you?!?!"
Vulture exclaimed, frozen in mid-air.
"Oh, of course, I apologize, I'm Spider-Man. Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, by the way. Just wanted to ask for directions."
"Out of the way, scum! I have important business!"
He shouted nastily, covering the bag hanging from his shoulder.
"Scum? Not very friendly."
I said as I dropped from the web and started flying after the winged man, "If it's not a secret, where are you headed?"
"Are you mocking me?! Fine, if that's what you want, blame yourself!"
Vulture flew at me with the roar of a true warrior.
I didn't know his wings were real until I dodged him and let his body pass by with the help of gravity.
They were razor-sharp.
"Wow, how long have you been cleaning those feathers, if you don't mind me asking? They shine so much."
"Believe me, insect, you'll find out. Just come a little closer."
"Sorry, but I'm not in the mood."
After a mid-flip, I get closer to him and kick him in the torso with both feet.
With a grunt, the Vulture is sent flying backwards.
"You know, I'm in a hurry, so I'll deal with you next time."
Vulture said, preparing to fly away.
"Not so fast."
I shot a web and latched onto his leg.
We start flying over the city.
"You annoying sticking bug."
Vulture screamed, noticing the extra weight.
"Yeah, hey. And it's arachnid, actually."
I continued as if nothing was wrong.
With a wave of his hand, he sliced through my web with his wing.
I shot two webs at the back of the distracted Vulture and began climbing up them.
"Why can't you just stay behind? What did I do?!"
Oh, by the way.
"First of all, you weren't exactly the most polite neighbor. Secondly, you could've just flown away if my company was so unpleasant. Thirdly, you can consider me as having a nose for villains. Or tell me that in that bag you're clutching so tightly to yourself are grandma's cupcakes! There aren't grandma's cupcakes in there, are there?"
"You pathetic young fool, this is none of your business!"
"Phew, I'd feel like the biggest jerk right now if I was fighting a flying courier just delivering muffins from grandma to her granddaughter via air delivery."
"What are you even saying?!"
"Sorry, it's just words, sometimes they just come out, and I can't stop them. Anyway, you don't need this."
I shot at the bag and pulled it towards myself.
"NOOOOO!!!"
The Vulture quickly turned, cut the web strands, and flew at me.
Grabbing my throat, Vulture started rising into the air.
Well, I didn't see that coming.
...
[Gwen's POV]
Gwen Stacy's house.
Great, I finished the homework and can now check on the research.
It's awesome that Martha entered our and Peter's data into the registry so quickly.
Yeah, Peter and I… we're on the same page, working on research.
Okay, stop drifting off, Gwen! You saw him today with that redhead newcomer.
He's already taken.
My heavy thoughts were interrupted by a call from an unknown number.
Strange.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is this Gwen Stacy?"
"Yes, who's speaking?"
"It's me. Mary Jane Watson. Peter introduced us today, if you remember."
For a moment, Gwen was stunned into silence, but then she decided to respond.
"Yes, of course, MJ, I remember. It's just a bit sudden."
"I understand, you're probably wondering how I got your number?"
"That's right."
"Gloria gave it to me. I was asking her for contacts from Peter's friends, and she only shared yours."
"And hers?"
"She said you helped her with biology last year."
"That's true, I had already forgotten about it."
"Sorry to bother you, but I actually wanted to ask, would you like to come over to my place tomorrow, you know, it's my day off and everything?"
"Um, well, of course, I'd be happy to."
"Great, I'll be waiting, have a good evening."
"You too."
What was that?
To be continued...
