Are You Crazy? You’re Telling Me This Is a Fugitive TV Show?

Chapter 78 The Stage is Set, Faces Change, Magic Begins, Shocking the Heavens

Inside an upscale villa complex in Nancheng, an old and worn-out van drove out from within. Wang Yun sat inside the vehicle, a faint smile on his face.

“Brother Wen, help me buy some more props,” he dialed Brother Wen’s number.

Brother Wen, whose real name was Chen Wen, was the young man from the family of four that he had saved. The plan had undergone some changes, and Wang Yun needed some adjustments as well. After a brief explanation, Wang Yun ended the call and continued driving.

Halfway, he met up with a hauler in an area devoid of any surveillance cameras. Subsequently, the two vehicles, one after the other, headed toward the outskirts of the city. After one and a half hours of driving, they arrived at an extremely remote location.

Wang Yun stopped, transferred the items from the van to the hauler, and then simply abandoned the van on the spot. However, he left a note on the van’s steering wheel.

“Driver, go to the Nansu Plaza parking garage,” Wang Yun told the hauler driver, leaning back in his seat with a smile. Nearly two hours later, the group arrived at the underground parking lot.

“Brother, the stage is ready, and I’ve purchased all the necessary props and items,” Chen Wen informed Wang Yun as he approached.

“Good, Brother Wen. Please help me move the items to the backstage area while I go through a quick change,” Wang Yun nodded and instructed.

Wang Yun skillfully evaded the surveillance cameras in the underground garage and donned the final mask. Although the other masks could transform by adding a few features, they lacked the complete transformation effect of this particular mask.

With the disguise in place and a change of clothes, Wang Yun approached Chen Wen and smiled, saying, “Let’s get prepared. Brother Wen, did you manage to find the helpers I asked you to look for?”

“I’ve found someone, he’s coming over right away. His build and height are almost identical to ours,” Chen Wen nodded, marveling at Wang Yun’s current appearance.

Wang Yun had saved their lives, and Chen Wen knew that he wouldn’t ask for something without reason.

“That’s good,” Wang Yun nodded, following Chen Wen toward an empty space in front of Nansu Plaza.

Yes, there was an actual stage. And it was going to be a real performance. Wang Yun immediately began to arrange the stage. He wanted to make this performance perfect.

“Huh? Captain, we searched and identified Wang Yun’s third appearance. Additionally, through surveillance, we discovered that he purchased a second hand van. Furthermore, Captain, today he actually drove that used car out,”  an investigator reported excitedly.

Meanwhile, in the special program task force’s room, the five team captains were searching for information and data.

“What? You mean to say that he drove that used van today?” Wang Yue was slightly taken aback, surprised.

“Yes, Captain. He drove that used van out today, and I am currently investigating where he went,” a staff member immediately spoke up.

Knowing that he had been exposed, knowing that one of his identities was compromised, and aware that we could trace his purchase of the used car, he still had the audacity to drive out today after seeing the provocative banner. Does that mean he has already begun to fight back?” Captain Hong Feng rose from his seat, his face icy as he stared at the surveillance footage.

“He’s moving pretty quickly,” Wang Yue furrowed her brows. “Lock down that van.”

A moment later, the staff member reported loudly, “Captain, we’ve traced the route of that van. He’s not trying to hide at all. We even saw him smiling at a traffic light. His appearance matches the new face we just discovered. He’s intentionally smiling at the surveillance, probably knowing that we can track him.”

The five captains immediately looked at the monitor. The face on the screen revealed a taunting smile toward the surveillance camera, even though it appeared a bit fuzzy, they could sense the silent provocation.

The five captains observed the provocative smile, their gazes turning cold.

“Continue the investigation,” Captain Hong Feng ordered.

Everyone kept their eyes fixed on the monitor.

“We found him. He entered a luxurious villa complex in Nancheng. He stayed inside for about half an hour, but we’re not sure what he did. After leaving, he drove toward the outskirts of the city. He reached a rural road and then– Huh? He disappeared from the footage of a certain section of the road,” the staff member reported.

“Send someone to check the area,” Jiang Youshan immediately spoke up.

“Understood,” a staff member responded and quickly dispatched the program inspection team to investigate the scene.

“What is he up to? Why did he go to such a remote location? Retrieve the footage of his entry into the villa complex,” Wu Mingyu furrowed his brows and pondered aloud.

“Alright, the villa complex has its own separate surveillance system. But with our resources, we can extract the footage in five minutes,” another staff member confirmed and began the investigation.

“After analyzing the footage inside the villa complex, we found that he parked in a spot with partial camera coverage. Only half of the vehicle is visible, and the rest is out of sight,” the staff member reported after five to six minutes.

“What exactly is he planning?” Captain Hong Feng murmured to himself.

“Let me review all of his surveillance footage,” Wu Mingyu walked up to the monitors and personally sat down to begin his investigation. His sharp gaze scanned the screens rapidly.

Meanwhile, four program officers hurriedly headed toward the location where the van had disappeared. Every passing second felt like an eternity as Captain Hong Feng and the other team leaders could only wait in silence for updates.

“Something’s off about this vehicle,” Wu Mingyu carefully reviewed the surveillance footage from start to finish, the images flickering at an accelerated pace.

Less than an hour later, his gaze suddenly focused, landing on a specific vehicle, a hauler truck.

“What did you find?” Captain Hong Feng’s eyes turned toward him as he asked.

“I’ve discovered that this specific hauler has been tailing Wang Yun’s van the entire time. It followed the same route back along the road where the van disappeared, and I noticed an additional figure inside the truck when it reappeared.” Wu Mingyu’s gaze flickered as he spoke.

“He may have followed this hauler back. It’s suspicious. Why would he do such a thing?” Wu Mingyu expressed his confusion, his face filled with questions.

What was Wang Yun up to?

What was his true motive?

“Regardless, let’s focus on tracking this hauler first,” Jiang Youshan contemplated for a moment before speaking up.

Wu Mingyu nodded and began to investigate the surveillance footage of the hauler.

“Report, Captain. We have arrived at the location where Wang Yun’s ‘fugitive’ van disappeared. We found a van parked by the roadside, but it’s empty,” the program officers promptly reported back.

At the same time, the screen also displayed the images of the four program inspectors at the scene.

“Take a closer look. Proceed with caution,” Wu Yaoming instructed.

“Yes, Captain,” the program officers nodded and peered inside the van. Soon, a note on the steering wheel caught everyone’s attention.

“What’s this?” Captain Hong Feng’s gaze narrowed slightly.

“Captain, it’s a note with a line of text on it. The text reads: ‘Today’s performance officially begins. The program inspection team is invited to Nansu Plaza to watch. If you fail to show up, a lucky audience member will be randomly shot.” One of the program inspectors read the words aloud, his expression turning solemn.

“Is this a challenge? And a threat to force us to go?” Wang Yue’s eyes chilled as she observed the message.

“Nansu Plaza again. What does he plan to do there today?” Captain Hong Feng’s gaze became sharp, his expression full of gravity.

Last time, he was defeated by Wang Yun at Nansu Plaza. And now, he intentionally chooses to strike there again. What kind of ‘crime’ was he plotting?

***

“It’s starting. It’s really happening.”

“Oh, our Big Brother has been active the whole day, and now the screens are all black. Is this the beginning of his provocation?”

“What exactly is Big Bro planning to do?”

In the live stream, the viewers couldn’t help but discuss the information provided by the captains.

“We are being led by the nose,” Wu Mingyu’s face revealed a pensive expression. “I have a feeling he’s intentionally trying to stall for time.”

“Then why go through all this trouble? Does he need to use this particular van? Unfortunately, we don’t know what he did at the villa complex.” Jiang Youshan said.

“Bluffs and deception, it’s hard to discern the truth. Difficult to grasp his true intentions,” Wang Yue furrowed her brows and looked at Wu Yaoming. “How many officers can we mobilize to the city center as quickly as possible?”

Wu Yaoming checked the time and replied., “Around seventy to eighty. It’s peak hour now, but I’ll have them all head over.”

“I’m going to the scene,” declared Captain Hong Feng, taking a deep breath as a spark ignited in his eyes. “Since I’ve thrown down the gauntlet and he’s responded, let’s dance on the edge of the knife. I will conduct an investigation on site. Also, prepare the drones to survey the rooftops around Nansu Plaza to prevent his escape using a wingsuit again.”

With that, Captain Hong Feng headed outside.

“Five officers, follow him,” Wu Yaoming swiftly instructed through a communicator.

“The showdown has begun,” murmured Jiang Youshan as he watched Captain Hong Feng depart.

“This time, we will provide staunch assistance through the live broadcast. We can’t let Wang Yun escape again,” stated Wu Mingyu with a serious expression, as the other captains nodded in agreement.

“Open the surveillance around Nansu Plaza. Thoroughly inspect that hauler vehicle. We cannot afford to overlook this detail,” the orders resounded.

***

“The duel has started, one to set up the game, the other to break it. Who knows what will unfold today!”

“This time, Big Brother is playing his cards too close to his chest. We have no clue what he’s planning. It’s not fair.”

The audience in the live broadcast room watched intently.

Meanwhile, at a clearing in front of Nansu Plaza, a stage was set up and some curious onlookers were already gathering around it.

“We are ready to start,” Muttering to himself, Wang Yun’s eyes shimmered as he took out his phone and dialed a number.

“Hello, who is this?” inquired a middle-aged man in an office as he looked at the unfamiliar number on his phone.

“If you still want the hundreds of millions in cash from the safe in your home’s basement, be here by 5:40,” Wang Yun concluded abruptly and hung up the phone.

“What?” The middle-aged man was taken aback by this demand.

***

“Let’s get started, everyone, and enjoy the show!”

Simultaneously, in the live broadcast of the public awareness room, the screen suddenly changed, displaying the scene on the stage.

“Oh? What’s this?” Shen Hao looked astonished, his face filled with surprise as he observed the transforming images on the screen.

“The duel has already begun. Take a look, everyone,” Director Fang smiled mysteriously, saying no more.

At the same time, on the stage in front of Nansu Plaza, the voice of the performer was heard, “I am Jing Tian, greetings, everyone. Now, I will present to you the most perfect performance.”

Dressed in theatrical attire, the figure stepped onto the center of the stage, bowing to the audience in front.

As soon as he finished speaking, he waved his arm, and the originally white face immediately changed to red.

The performer’s face continuously transformed along with the dramatic music. In just a few seconds, it changed more than a dozen times. This was the god-level skill of face-changing, which was different from disguise as he couldn’t change his appearance entirely, and the performer was none other than Wang Yun.

Wang Yun stood on the stage, swinging his arm, and a firestick appeared in his hand like magic. He blew on it, and instantly, the stick blazed with fire.

Swinging the firestick, his face continued to change under the flames.

“Wow!”

“Whoa, this is so incredible! Truly amazing.”

“This performance of face-changing is so fast and impressive.”

The audience surrounding the area erupted in cheers upon witnessing the scene.

“Thank you, thank you!”

After three minutes of performing, Wang Yun bowed to the audience, took off his costume, and picked up the microphone that was placed nearby.

With a slight movement of his palm, a chicken egg appeared. He tossed it into the air and walked toward the front of the stage.

“Miss, how did you like my performance just now?” Wang Yun approached the edge of the stage, smiling as he handed her the microphone.

“Impressive,” the girl said as she leaned closer to the microphone.

“Hehe, it’s a good thing you said it’s impressive. If you had said anything else, this stinky egg would have landed right on you,” Wang Yun laughed, waving and egg in his hand. The girl chuckled in response.

“Ah!” In the next instant, she saw an egg heading towards her.

“Don’t worry, don’t worry. Would I really throw an egg at our dear audience?” Wang Yun immediately quipped with a smile.

As the egg flew through the air, it transformed into a flower, landing gently on the girl’s clothing.

“Whoa, that surprised me! So impressive!” the girl exclaimed, marveling at the sudden appearance of the flower on her dress.

“Wow! This was amazing.”

“Incredible, incredible!”

“Amazing, this magic is really something.”

“How did the egg transform into a flower all of a sudden? Dang, I was so close and I still didn’t see it clearly. Is that a prop?” Some people around exclaimed in surprise. Their reaction drew even more curious onlookers to the scene. Wang Yun observed this, a slight smile playing on his lips.

The momentum was building.
