Chapter 4: Chapter 4: A “Meteorite” That Appeared Out of Thin Air—Panic Across the Globe!
Deserted Island.
Lance took a deep breath, bent down, and pressed one hand against the ground.
"Let's do this!"
The next moment—
His eyes snapped open as he pushed his ability to its limit.
BOOM!
With a deafening roar, two-thirds of the island vanished—along with Lance!
The island now looked like someone had taken a massive bite out of it, leaving jagged edges and debris tumbling into the ocean below.
10,000 meters above the Earth.
Lance reappeared—this time, floating in the sky with the entire chunk of the island he'd just teleported.
The sight left him stunned.
"Did I seriously bring the whole damn island up here?"
Before he could fully process what he'd done, the massive piece of land began to plummet.
His heart jumped.
"Shit—no, no, no!"
Even with the ocean below, something this massive could cause catastrophic damage.
Flash!
Lance vanished and reappeared on the falling island.
Planting his hand firmly on the ground, he activated his ability again.
BOOM!
The island disappeared, along with Lance, leaving nothing but empty air behind.
Meanwhile—
Far away, hidden within the clouds, a massive S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier hovered above the Atlantic Ocean.
Inside the command center—
Nick Fury stormed into the room, his single eye locked onto the large screen.
"How bad is it?"
Maria Hill stood at attention, her expression serious.
"A minute ago, a massive inanimate object suddenly appeared 10,000 meters above the Atlantic Ocean and began falling at high speed."
"Meteorite?" Nick Fury asked.
Maria shook her head.
"No, it just… appeared out of nowhere. Our satellites didn't detect any incoming objects."
"Supernatural event?"
Nick Fury's frown deepened.
Ever since the Chitauri invasion in 2012, the world had become a chaotic mess.
Aliens, gods, and superpowered lunatics were popping up like weeds.
For Nick Fury, life hadn't been peaceful since.
Even with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the S.W.O.R.D. Division under his command, keeping things under control felt impossible.
And now this?
A massive object appearing out of thin air?
"Sir! The target just vanished!"
One of the agents shouted, snapping Fury's focus back to the screen.
"Vanished?"
Fury stalked toward the monitor. The object was indeed gone.
"Send a team to investigate the scene. I want answers!"
Maria Hill nodded and relayed the order through her earpiece.
Two Quinjets roared off the Helicarrier's deck, leaving trails of blue flames as they shot toward the coordinates.
But S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't the only one paying attention.
Military forces in the United States, Russia, and China had also picked up the anomaly.
While the U.S. immediately tapped into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources, other nations simply monitored the situation, wary of jumping into foreign territory.
For now.
Back at Lance's Penthouse.
By the time S.H.I.E.L.D. scrambled their response team, Lance was already home, stripping off his jacket and throwing it onto the floor.
He couldn't wipe the grin off his face.
As an ordinary guy just days ago, he'd never experienced anything this exhilarating.
Still, the aftermath stuck with him.
If he hadn't reacted in time and teleported that chunk of land closer to the water's surface, the fallout would've been catastrophic.
Even dropping it from tens of meters caused massive waves that took forever to settle.
And he'd bailed before anyone could track him.
Lance knew the stunt might've attracted attention—not just from S.H.I.E.L.D., but from governments and militaries around the world.
No way he was sticking around to get caught.
Better to stay under the radar for now—build his strength quietly.
On paper, he was just another spoiled rich kid.
In reality, he was the only Mutant in the world.
And that was just fine with him.
"I wonder what ability I'll sign in tomorrow?"
Lance leaned back, thinking ahead.
Then something clicked.
"Wait… where the hell is Red Devil?"
He glanced around the apartment but saw no sign of Erha.
What he did see, however, were several passed-out partygoers scattered across the living room.
Empty bottles. Clothes everywhere.
"Some party…"
Lance's eyes sparkled.
Not just because of the mess—but because he remembered his other friends.
Friends who, based on what he knew of this world's future, weren't going to have peaceful lives.
"This is getting more interesting by the day."
Lance grinned, already looking forward to what came next.
