Chapter 45
Chapter 45: Stubborn and Unyielding
“The video recording concluded at this point. However, Xu Mohua and Wang Jianguo were so furious they couldn’t speak. Xu Mohua slowly said, ‘Lao Wang, make a copy of the tape for me. I want to visit the capital and meet with the senior leader.’ It wouldn’t be easy to meet with a senior leader if it were an ordinary person, even a scientific researcher, or even someone like Major General Wang Jianguo. But Xu Mohua’s status was different. He was a genuine national hero, the linchpin of the national defense effort. He had dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his work for many years, overseeing numerous scientific research projects. Wang Jianguo considered speaking up through military channels to resolve the issue, but looking at Xu Mohua’s resolute face, he remained silent for a moment and nodded quietly. For some people, if they jump out on their own, then they can’t blame others. An hour later, Xu Mohua departed the base on a military aircraft. A day later, a central inspection team with a “challenging” task left the capital.
Hu Fei casually drove and parked his car in a residential area. Hu Fei had never been a good student, so he dropped out of junior high school and started a life in the underworld. Of course, in China, the so-called underworld couldn’t become powerful. But gray areas were impossible to eradicate in any country completely. With his physical strength, Hu Fei spent ten years mingling with the underworld, and during that time, he served a few years in prison for robbery and causing injury. After his release, he discovered that his uncle’s family had become prosperous. So, he started living with his cousin Hu Bin. Because of their family relationship, Hu Bin took care of him, and he sincerely worked for Hu Bin. Whenever there were situations that Hu Bin couldn’t personally handle, Hu Fei would always be there to assist. This time, Hu Bin targeted a newcomer without much background. This person might have some connections and means overseas, but in China, he was just a newcomer without power or influence. Hu Bin could manipulate him as he pleased. He didn’t need to intimidate him personally; the young man surrendered easily. Hu Bin said that if things worked out, there would be benefits for Hu Fei as well. At the thought of this, Hu Fei suddenly became ecstatic and joyful. Hu Bin was always generous, and Hu Fei eagerly anticipated how much benefit he could gain from this.”
Hu Fei, who was walking towards his house, suddenly stopped. He looked around in confusion and was shocked to find several burly men surrounding him.
“Hey? When did so many strong guys appear around me?” Hu Fei wondered aloud.
Before he could make sense of the situation, the men charged at him, overpowering him with their strength and knocking him to the ground. He cried out in pain, tears streaming down his face.
“What’s going on? Who did I offend?” Hu Fei thought in bewilderment.
But the next moment, he noticed the official vehicles parked at the residential area entrance. These men were government officials.
Hu Fei was filled with shock and horror. “Guys, please don’t scare me. I’m easily frightened. Is this how law enforcement works? You really think highly of me!”
He was then escorted to an unfamiliar place, neither a prison nor a police station he had been to before. The attention he was receiving was far beyond his expectations, leaving him truly bewildered.
“Name?” one of the officials asked sternly.
“Hu Fei,” he replied.
“Gender?”
“Male.”
“Age?”
“36.”
“Do you know what you’ve done wrong?” The official slammed a file on the table.
“Sir, I don’t know, I really don’t know,” Hu Fei cried out, feeling wronged.
“Let me remind you. On a certain day, at a certain month, at a certain year, weren’t you at *** Kindergarten on Xihe Street?”
Hu Fei thought for a moment and cautiously replied, “Yes.”
“What were you planning to do there?”
“I… I wasn’t planning to do anything.”
“Our policy is strict resistance and lenient confession. Don’t you intend to tell the truth?”
With a mournful face, Hu Fei pleaded, “Sir, please tell me, give me a hint.”
“Fine. On that day, did you meet anyone?”
“Oh, I’ve seen someone named Fang Jian before,” Hu Fei’s eyes suddenly lit up. He exclaimed, “Officer, I understand now! That Fang Jian is a spy, he’s a spy, right?”
The officer stared at him coldly. “Stubborn, tell me, what are your future plans? Are you planning to kidnap someone? If you don’t explain clearly, don’t expect to leave.”
Hu Fei thought to himself, “Our future plans? I swear to God, we don’t have any! Kidnap someone? Who’s kidnapping who here?”
