At the Beginning, the Villain Is Secretly Loved by the Protagonist’s Mother

Chapter 15:

Chapter 15: Traffic Jam Incident:

“I won’t say if I’m in a good mood or not. Honestly, I feel like I’m walking on thin ice. I’m afraid of being scolded if I make a mistake,” Lin Keqing said in response to Feng Qianqian’s words. “But I’m still really grateful to him. He’s amazing. Even though I’ve only worked for a few days, I’ve learned so much.”

“Well, keep working hard. I hope you can become a regular employee soon. Do you know that the secretary to the president of Zhenxing Group has an annual salary of at least 700,000 yuan?” Feng Qianqian said.

“I don’t dare to think about becoming a regular employee just yet, but I’ll try my best!” Lin Keqing replied modestly. Still, the thought of earning such a high salary stirred some excitement in her. An annual income of 700,000 yuan was something she had never dreamed of before. While studying, her goal had been to earn a monthly salary of 20,000 yuan after five years of work.

Early the next morning, Wang Zhenxing left his mansion but didn’t head straight to the company. Instead, he directed his Bentley toward a local vegetable market. According to the private detective’s findings, Lin Keqing’s mother, Liu Fang, visited this market every morning to buy groceries.

The roads near the market were crowded, and the Bentley barely moved. As traffic finally began to clear, a new blockage emerged—there seemed to be an accident up ahead. Frustrated, the driver got out to check.

“Boss, someone fainted on the zebra crossing up ahead, causing the jam. It looks like the road won’t be clear for a while,” the driver reported.

“Someone fainted, and no one’s helping?” Wang Zhenxing asked.

“Who dares to help strangers these days?” the driver replied.

Nodding in agreement, Wang Zhenxing checked his gold watch and saw it was almost time for work. Of course, being late wasn’t a concern for him as the boss. Still, the delay was annoying.

He stepped out of the car, not to assist the fainted person but to assess if the road could be cleared. As he approached the zebra crossing, he saw a small crowd gathered. Most were merely watching, reluctant to step forward. Amid the onlookers, an older woman carrying groceries hesitated, visibly conflicted about helping.

After some internal struggle, the woman—Liu Fang—set her groceries down and approached the unconscious individual, a heavyset woman in her fifties. Liu Fang attempted to lift her but quickly realized she couldn’t manage alone. “Can anyone help?” she asked the crowd. Silence followed.

At first, Wang Zhenxing paid no attention, but when he got a closer look, the woman seemed familiar. Taking out his phone, he compared her to the photos sent by the private detective. “Lin Keqing’s mother?” he murmured with a smile.

Born in a rural village, Liu Fang was indeed a kind-hearted woman. Seeing someone in need, she was willing to help despite the risks.

When it became clear no one else would assist, Liu Fang gritted her teeth and prepared to lift the woman herself.

At this moment, Wang Zhenxing stepped in. “Don’t move her yet. If she’s injured, moving her might cause more harm,” he cautioned.

Startled, Liu Fang looked up.

Seeing that he appeared to be a well-dressed and successful man, she immediately trusted his advice. “Oh! Is that true?” she asked.

Using basic first-aid knowledge, Wang Zhenxing checked the woman’s condition. She was breathing and showed no signs of impact injuries. Relieved, he said, “The ambulance won’t get through this traffic. Let’s help her to a clearer spot where they can reach her.”

Liu Fang nodded and helped him lift the woman onto his back. The woman weighed close to 180 pounds, but thanks to his good physique, Wang Zhenxing managed. His driver offered to carry the woman instead, but he declined—if he wanted to make a good impression, he needed to do it himself.

In about five minutes, he reached the edge of the congested area and handed the woman over to the ambulance crew. Liu Fang had been the one to make the emergency call.

When the ambulance staff requested a 200-yuan fee, Liu Fang panicked.

After buying groceries, she had barely a dozen yuan left. “Ambulances aren’t free,” explained Wang Zhenxing. Without hesitation, he paid the 200 yuan and even advanced 3,000 yuan for the woman’s medical expenses.

“Young man, you’re such a kind person!” Liu Fang exclaimed, gratitude shining in her eyes.

Young man? The comment amused him. From Lin Keqing’s onboarding documents, he knew Liu Fang was only 39—just three years younger than him. However, years of farm work had aged her prematurely, while he maintained a youthful appearance. To onlookers, the age gap seemed far greater.

“Aunt, you have a good heart,” he said warmly. “Most people wouldn’t dare to help someone like that on the road.”

“I didn’t think much about it at the time,” Liu Fang admitted. “I just saw someone fainted and felt I had to check.” Still, as she reflected, fear crept in. Stories of good samaritans being blackmailed weren’t uncommon. If such a situation arose, it could trouble her family. Yet, Liu Fang knew she would still make the same choice.

“Aunt, I have to get to work now,” said Wang Zhenxing. “Take care.” With the impression he wanted to make firmly established, he didn’t linger.

“Alright, I need to make breakfast for my employer,” Liu Fang replied, recalling the groceries she’d left on the roadside.

As traffic cleared, Wang Zhenxing returned to his Bentley and headed to Zhenxing Group.

Later that morning, he arrived at the office and dropped a thick stack of documents—nearly a foot high—on Lin Keqing’s desk.

“Read through these, organize them, and give me a concise report by noon,” he instructed sternly.

“By noon? All of this?” Lin Keqing asked, trembling at the sheer volume.

“Is there a problem?”

“Uh… could I have until the afternoon?” she asked hesitantly.

“You have other tasks this afternoon. You’ll be accompanying me to meet a business partner,” he replied.

“Me?!” Lin Keqing’s eyes widened in shock. Her confidence in her communication skills was shaky at best.

Seeing her reaction, he remained expressionless. “Is that a problem?”

“No, boss. I’ll do as you say!” she quickly responded, knowing a scolding was imminent if she didn’t comply.
