Chapter 4: Chapter 4: "The game's Master"
At the edge of the dimensional rift, a multitude of heroes gathered at the site of the carnage that had swept through the capital of Webenne. The extent of the destruction left by the four mysterious strangers froze the faces of those who arrived. What they saw was nothing less than a nightmare made real: a once-flourishing city, now reduced to a field of ruins and desolation. The dimensional rift, larger than any seen before, immediately captured their attention. A high-ranking hero stepped forward, reaching out to gauge the scale of the threat they were about to face. He was suddenly thrown back hundreds of meters by violent energy fluctuations.
The first hero, trembling, felt the weight of the danger. He murmured, his voice heavy with dread:
"These energy waves… this is an SS-ranked portal, maybe even SSS. One thing is certain: we can't enter it anymore. If we can't close this rift, it could destroy humanity before we even have the time to say goodbye to our loved ones."
The second hero, intrigued by the presence of such a high-level portal, questioned aloud:
"So, some fools tried to play hero against an SSS-ranked portal... It would take the energy of thousands of stars to create a rift of this rank. What kind of monsters could have caused this catastrophe? Are we already doomed? Until now, SS was the highest rank we managed to overcome, and that was only with the help of the Yorquin Terra Rangers."
The third hero, more analytical, spoke up:
"Wait, something's bothering me. I want to analyze this rift more closely; something doesn't add up. I'll prepare a detailed report. Stay calm, gentlemen, I need to concentrate my powers."
The fourth hero intervened in a calm yet firm tone:
"Let Hayères do his work. He's the best equipped to analyze this breach."
Approaching slowly, Hayères activated a rare ability, allowing him to peer into recent events. Fragments of the past appeared to him, fleeting moments in which he glimpsed the silhouettes of four terrifying beings: two aliens, a superior dragon, and Atachi—a force so immense it could annihilate entire planets. What he saw went beyond anything he could have imagined. The battles, the violence, the creation of the rift… everything had been too brutal, too fast. The shock was so overwhelming that Hayères lost consciousness, overwhelmed by the horror of what he had just uncovered. His body collapsed, caught just in time by another hero, Zego.
Zego – "Quick! We need to get him to the nearest hospital!"
Another hero took charge of Hayères. Among the dozens of heroes watching in tense silence, some began to realize that enemies of an entirely different caliber had now made their appearance.
The fifth hero, pragmatic, proposed:
"We'll have to wait. The temporal distortion is drastically cutting down our prep time, but we need to stay vigilant. Let's wait for Hayères to wake up for his debrief. In the meantime, let's call for reinforcements. We must prepare for the worst."
Meanwhile, inside the portal, Atachi was walking peacefully, his calm demeanor a cruel contrast to the panic outside. Before him stretched an endless field of flowers, bathed in the soft light of an unreal twilight, each plant shimmering under the golden glow. A gentle breeze brushed against his face, but he remained impassive, his gaze lost in the distance.
Atachi – "I see you, and I feel you. Your time has not yet come, but I know where to find you, pawn."
Further away, in that vast field, an unknown presence felt those words like a chilling shock. The mysterious being, startled, sought an explanation. How could this intruder perceive its presence?
? – "He knows where I am? His gaze sends chills down my spine. But I control this reality, I am the master here... Let's see what he's truly made of."
Atachi – "We both know why you're hiding. Come to me, so I can put an end to this charade the cosmic entities so enjoy. Stop hiding, your performance is an insipid distraction to your spectators."
Hearing these words, the mysterious opponent instinctively recoiled, disturbed by the revelation of a well-guarded secret.
Observer – "This guy is insane… By mentioning those who should never be named, he's made this trial even more deadly."
Atachi extended his hand effortlessly, drawing his opponent towards him with an invisible force. The observer, choking, struggled in vain against a grip far beyond his power. Blood spilled from his lips as he realized in terror that a mere Terranian had injured him—he, who had believed himself untouchable.
Atachi – "So, what do you have to offer me today? Did you think you'd face a fool sacrificing himself for his world? Let me laugh. Here, you are nothing but a slave to my will."
Observer – "I've never heard of a race capable of challenging me! Let go of me, you filthy bastard!"
Atachi threw him to the ground with casual ease. The observer, a red humanoid lizard, struggled to stand up. His imposing figure surpassed Atachi's, but humiliation was etched on his face. The cosmic entities, silent witnesses to the fight, burst into laughter, savoring the lizard's helplessness before this enigmatic mortal.
Observer – "I'm going to kill you, bastard! Let the trial begin!"
Beneath Atachi's feet, reality tore apart, swallowing him into a bottomless abyss. Yet he remained calm. The trial that awaited him was nothing but another game in his eyes. Across an infinite expanse, trillions of creatures and indescribable calamities awaited him eagerly.
Atachi, surveying the surroundings, murmured with disdain:
"Humanity was supposed to face all this? The absurdity of your games dissuades me from annihilating you. If cosmic entities seek meaning in their pitiful existence, you truly deserve my pity. I would be the first to offer you a hand. Poor deities... you don't even know how to exploit your potential. You will always remain more pathetic than your creations."
Thousands of wyverns flew towards Atachi. He had sensed them long before entering this place. Suddenly, he grabbed the sky, launching himself at a blinding speed onto the back of one of them, delivering a punch so powerful that it pulverized the entire swarm of attackers in an instant.
Atachi, with a cold smile:
"The hunt can finally begin."
He fell into the heart of a sea of monsters, creatures so numerous and powerful that the ground itself seemed to tremble. But nothing could stop him. A hierarchy manifested as the ultimate predator made his appearance.
Observer, looking up to the sky, addressed the cosmic deities: — "Let the spectacle begin, oh great deities! Behold the exceptional subject we have here! Place your bets, the trial will be grand!"
Atachi, left alone for a few seconds, struck the earth with such force that a crater spanning millions of kilometers formed, reducing billions of combatants to dust. He stood at the center of this destruction, standing on the void he had just created.
Atachi, his voice as calm as it was sharp, issued a warning to the rift's observer:
"Tell your gods that I will kill them the day they meet me. I will give them a show that will bury them forever."
In the palace of Titan's father, the latter noticed his son's disappearance on a nearby planet. The tension in his gaze was palpable as he teleported without a moment's hesitation, seeking to understand what had happened. Arriving on the scene, the sight of his shattered son, barely alive, was an unbearable shock. Titan, once so powerful, lay in a pitiful state, his body ravaged by the terrifying force of a single blow from Atachi. Rage flared in the father's eyes, a burning fury mixed with pain.
Father of Titan – "I will never forgive you!!! The organization will fall, I swear it!!!"
Without delay, he returned to his palace with Titan, who was on the verge of death from Atachi's punch. He placed him in a regenerative tank, using his power to view his son's memories from a third-person perspective. He noticed Atachi, the one who had subdued Titan, a minor deity, and Keryt, commander of one of Barbatéos' many armies, with ease. Such an achievement was inconceivable to the father.
Father of Titan – "This man is an anomaly for the world he inhabits. How could a simple Terranian have defeated my son, who could destroy the entire structure? He killed him with a single blow… No, it's because he decided to kill him at that moment. The will behind that strike was unyielding. Titan… Rise!"
Titan's healing was complete, and he woke up with a start, the first thing he saw being a terrifying hallucination: a nightmarish figure of Atachi standing before him, demanding to know why he had dared to stand in his way.
Titan – "I will not lose!"
His father was shocked by what was happening before his eyes. This Terranian had traumatized his son. He called him to order by exerting his aura across the entire planet. Atachi's shadow dissipated, leaving only the stark reality: it had all been a torment born of Titan's imagination.
Titan – "I'm sorry, father. By holding back my power to avoid destroying Terra, I lost to Keryt, even though I had the ability to defeat him. As for that Terranian, the blow he dealt me… I felt it deep in my being, father. It was so powerful that the punch he threw was merely a spectacular display, meant solely to impress Keryt. But it was enough to kill a god."
Titan's Father: "He could be useful to us in the future. Your uncle Xavier might need a warrior of his caliber."
Titan: "Uncle Xavier? But we are talking about a completely different scale, father. He is just a Terran. Even you don't participate in his missions. We live in a world that is not his."
Titan's Father: "You are mistaken, my son. His fight involves every individual, every living being, every possible cosmic structure. Do you wish to take your revenge against this Terran?"
Titan: "I do, father. I will face him, but this time, without holding back. He deserves an opponent worthy of him. If he defeats me a second time, then I will kneel before him and beg him to join us."
Titan's Father: "I'll find him, then prove to me that I didn't raise you in vain, Titan."
Meanwhile, Atachi continued to annihilate the monstrous creatures inhabiting the dimensional rift. Every strike he delivered instantly obliterated his foes, regardless of their power—whether they could destroy nations or entire planets. In barely an hour, half of the rift's monsters had already been eradicated by the one known as "the Calamity of Plagues."
The cosmic entities, observing the massacre from their unreachable heights, were disoriented by how easily Atachi disposed of their creations.
?: "This is disappointing. We had raised the challenge several degrees, yet nothing touches him. His species is far from being the most powerful we've observed, and yet he is simply intriguing."
?: "Shall we give him a true challenge? I'd like to recruit this Terran as a champion. I sense he has the skills for it."
?: "Are you mad? That wretch has no place in our tournament. I'll prove it to you, right here and now."
One entity merged the remaining monsters into an abomination—an unspeakable thing that humanity would not have been able to face. Atachi paused for a moment, observing this new threat with a slight smile.
Atachi: "If you believe this will change your tragic fate, you are gravely mistaken about me. I suggest you infuse it with the strength you think I possess. I'd like to see just how much you underestimate me."
Atachi's arrogance filled the divine spectators with rage, and they gave the creature immense power, turning it into a cosmic abomination, its speed and strength beyond comprehension. Yet, when it attacked Atachi, none of its blows reached him, as if he existed in another dimension.
Atachi: "In the end, you are nothing but fools. By committing the sin of attacking my civilization, you've turned against the one who destroys systems. I'll teach you to respect others. I assume other worlds have fallen to your selfish amusement. I can sense within this thing the fighters, the warriors filled with hope who perished due to your misdeeds. It's time to pay because if it's free, you are the product."
And with a single gesture, without even turning around, Atachi annihilated the creature, reducing it to nothing in an instant. The cosmic entities, shocked and perplexed, could not comprehend how he had achieved such a feat under their watchful eyes.
Atachi: "I propose a deal. Either you defeat me with one of your champions, and I will submit to your every desire. But if not, I will hunt you down one by one, then bury your bodies in front of your family members, and ensure they share the same fate as you for eternity. Do you accept this deal?"
The gods' wrath consumed them, desperate to kill him, but they had no right to intervene in the trial. An unimaginable pressure fell upon the Rift Overseer.
Observer: "I accept."
A champion had already been chosen to silence the most insolent mortal who dared to challenge the privileged ones. A halo of light descended from another dimension, revealing an imposing humanoid creature from another plane of existence. Its ebony skin contrasted with its brilliant white hair. Its body, sculpted to perfection, which would make even the mightiest warriors envious, was adorned with a massive two-meter saber—a symbol of destruction.
Aracus: "I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing here, but I've been tasked with eliminating you. You're an audacious one, walking a perilous path, but today you've reached the limit, and I'll make you regret crossing it. I am Aracus, the Leviathan, slayer of hope."
Titan's Father: "I found him in a strange dimension. Prepare yourself, my son—it seems you're not the only one who wants to challenge him."
Suddenly, a rift formed in space-time, a dimension previously forbidden to the gods. Titan, filled with restrained rage, descended at breakneck speed, literally tearing the fabric of reality in his wake. His explosive entrance placed him beside Aracus and Atachi in an instant, as if he had always been there.
Atachi slowly turned his head towards Titan, a cold, icy look in his eyes.
Atachi: "You? I spared your life once. Do you think you can return without facing the consequences?"
Atachi's aura dominated the entire dimension. Aracus and Titan struggled to maintain their footing, suffocating under the presence of this utterly unhinged being.
Titan (in Terran language): "I am Titan of Hyperion, minor god of creation! I fought Keryt before you. I protected your planet as if my life depended on it. And the only way you thank me is by trying to kill me?"
Atachi stared at him, expressionless, then responded with a voice that seemed to contain all the violence of the universe:
Atachi: "I'll ask you one simple question, minor god. Why are you speaking so much when I'm the strongest? Here, I decide your fates and the fates of the entities watching us. What have you come here for, Titan of Hyperion?"
Titan, clenching his fists, responded with growing intensity:
Titan: "I recognize your strength, Terran. I need you—you seem to be the kind of warrior who finds no equal in the heavens or on earth. My father wants to recruit you to fight alongside my uncle, the most powerful being of all time."
Aracus: "I don't know who you are, minor god, but you're the laughingstock of the gods. You are in the lowest rank of divinity, and you show up under the watchful eyes of the highest? Your existence lacks such meaning that you interfere in our battle. Don't worry—I'll deal with your torment soon after I finish off this tiresome individual."
Atachi: "Shut up, Aracus. Did I ask you to speak?"
With an invisible gesture, Aracus was hurled hundreds of kilometers away, his silhouette vanishing into the distance. Without a word, Atachi slowly advanced toward Titan. Each step resonated through the space around them, making the air heavier, the atmosphere more tense. Titan felt every fiber of his being scream under the crushing pressure. Every word he was about to speak would be a matter of life or death.
Atachi: "The most powerful? I'll let you in on a secret, Titan. I'm not the strongest, and I know it very well. But will your uncle be able to satisfy my need for ascension? I don't care about your divine ideals or your selfish wars. I am an anomaly seeking to rise above the imagination of your minds, confined by obscurantism."
Though shaken, Titan did not back down. His eyes burned with newfound determination.
Titan: "Fight me, Terran. I want to learn alongside you—you're the kind of person one meets only once in a lifetime, even though mine is endless. I admire your unique character, your ability to overcome any obstacle. But I haven't asked—what's your name?"
Atachi: "Your words show your ambition to impose yourself in this boundless world? Aracus! Titan! I await you. Whoever has the immense luck of touching me will have won life and the deal. My name is Atachi Gosaiblaze, just a simple Terran who abandoned his greatest ambitions due to the helplessness of his world."
