Attack Of Parasites

Chapter 26: Separation for three minutes

Teacher Tamiya realized, upon seeing Migi's weapon, that getting rid of Izumi wouldn't be easy. "Even though the parasite hasn't taken over your brain, you're no longer pure. I won't kill you after all; another chance is possible," she said before transforming back to her normal state and leaving the scene.

"Wait!!!" Izumi shouted, then turned to Migi, staring at him for a few moments. This prolonged gaze was due to Tamiya's words about him—not being pure anymore!

Tamiya left the university building in anger after deciding to abandon her role as a socially successful woman, in addition to challenging Izumi—or rather, Migi. On her way home, her actions resulted in the following: a taxi driver, a delivery worker, a mother with her son whom she accidentally collided with in the street, and a residential security guard—all of whom Tamiya ended without mercy.

**Knock at the Door**

Tamiya turned toward the door to see who was knocking, only to discover it was an elderly woman—a rather inconvenient time for a visit. She opened the door, allowing the woman to enter without permission, her demeanor tense.

"Tamiya! What's wrong? I received a call from your colleague at work, so I rushed over," the elderly woman said, expressing her concern.

"Must be the mother," Tamiya thought aloud, then closed the apartment door behind her.

"I'm sorry, but I have somewhere to go; we can talk later," Tamiya said without turning to face her mother.

"Tamiya!" The mother halted and turned toward Tamiya with a sad voice. "The place is nearby, so I'll be back quickly," Tamiya replied, not looking at her mother.

"Wait! Turn to me," the mother said, annoyed by Tamiya's behavior.

Tamiya slowly turned 90 degrees and began to stare at her mother, her gaze revealing everything.

"W... who... are you?" the mother stammered, speaking with difficulty.

Tamiya's eyes widened in shock at her mother's reaction, without uttering a word.

"This is impossible! Where is Tamiya? Where have you hidden her? You're not my daughter!" The mother kept repeating these words, distressed, while Tamiya remained silent.

"I need to call the police!" the mother said, then turned toward the landline to make the call.

But as soon as she picked up the receiver, a part of Tamiya's face stretched into a sharp weapon, and she swiftly slit her mother's throat from ear to ear. Tamiya stepped closer to the body and stared at it.

"You revealed my secret in moments," Tamiya thought aloud. "My face and voice are supposed to match Tamiya exactly... but...!" She placed her hand on her face, shocked by the old woman's skill.

"I don't believe this old woman has the ability to identify someone just by looking at them. Is it a special instinct mothers have for their children?!" A deep crack was formed in Tamiya, who was devoid of feelings and emotions, yet she discovered something for the first time—something she didn't know how to classify.

Izumi woke up after morning had arrived, finding the new glasses his father had bought for him placed on a vanity table beside his bed. He put on his glasses, expecting that Migi had already woken up to go through his usual routine of learning and exploring his new world on the computer. This prompted Izumi to call out for Migi and then glance at his arm...

But the shock was overwhelming—his right arm was gone! He screamed loudly in terror at the sight of his body without his right arm. Migi had separated from Izumi's body and was now a small creature with four limbs, one eye in front and another in the back. This was what Migi looked like away from Izumi's body, but he quickly rushed over to return after hearing the loud scream.

"Shut up! Are you trying to alert the entire neighborhood with your screaming?" Migi said as he returned to Izumi's body.

"What!!! How..." Izumi couldn't finish his sentence as his mother burst into the room due to his scream.

"What happened!!! Why are you screaming?!" his mother said in alarm, standing at the door.

"A nightmare! I had a nightmare!" Izumi said from his bed, hiding Migi under the covers with his right hand.

"Wow! It must have been bad!..." Izumi stuttered, feeling anxious and starting to glance left and right as Migi moved clearly beneath the blanket.

"Strange! Get up and wash your face," said his mother before leaving the room and closing the door behind her.

"What are you doing!!! How could you separate from my body?!" Izumi exclaimed, pulling his right hand from under the blanket.

"The maximum time I can be separated from your body is three minutes," Migi replied.

"Was that a morning stroll?" Izumi asked, placing his left hand behind his head.

"A stroll in the room!! It was a movement experiment," Migi said, displeased at the trivialization of his existence through Izumi's use of the word "stroll."

"Movement?? Are you saying you want to move to someone else and leave me without an arm? Or do you plan to take control of my brain!" Izumi said, tense.

"Yes, that's what I'm planning. I'm looking for someone smarter," Migi replied.

"What? You can't be serious!" Izumi said, alarmed.

"I told you I can't do that. Since I matured without taking control of a brain, I don't know how to control a whole body," Migi explained.

"Or do you want me to try and see if it works?" Migi added, then pulled out a sharp weapon from his fingers, intending to scare Izumi.

"No, I'm just joking," Izumi said, pulling his face away from the sharp weapon.

"Wait, so those of you who can take control of brains can swap heads?" Izumi asked, curious.

Migi concealed the sharp weapon and said, "Theoretically, yes, they can do that."

"But rejection can occur, and head-swapping is extremely dangerous; it could lead to losing control of the host body. I doubt anyone would take such a risk," Migi added.

"Izumi!!! Come on, breakfast is ready..." called his mother.

"Trip!" Izumi exclaimed, surprised after his father informed him of a trip he planned to take with his wife.

"Yes, I took a short vacation; she'll be watching the house during this time," his father explained.

"As you know, your father is a workaholic, and we've hardly gone on a trip together. The best decision is to step away for a bit and clear his mind," his mother said.

"But isn't that dangerous?" Izumi replied, clearly unimpressed by the idea of the trip.

"Are you worried about the torn flesh crimes? There haven't been many lately, and the investigators are working around the clock to solve them. So I don't think there's anything to worry about," his father reassured him.

"That's how it seems on the surface, but why would you want to wander in a place you've never been before during a time like this?" Izumi's concern was evident in his tone.

"Are you opposed to this trip?!" his mother asked, trying to clarify Izumi's thoughts.

After a long silence, Izumi said in a low voice, "Yes."
