Avatar: Mage of All Elements

Chapter 53: Chapter 53

Concentrate, get to work. Two on the sides, for balance. One in the center, but eight times the size of the sides. Done. Strike and we're off. If Toph's job was simply to control the momentum, mine was more complicated.

With maximum concentration, I closed my eyes and switched completely to seismic vision. As soon as we launched, I started levelling the pad for our tanks. Pulse and the pad is ready. Pair to the right and the ladder to the right is ready, and all the Fire Warriors that were on the right side and in the line of the pulse flew after the pulse.

Pair again, only this time to the left and mirror effect. Repeat all the way to the top.

I don't know how far to the top, but when I got there, the darkness had begun and all the fire mages had lost their powers. When I looked down, I felt sick, it was so high. I felt like I was doing it. Too much strain on my body. My impulse was just enough to get to the top, and a little more, so Toph was not tired. I, on the other hand, clearly needed a rest.

«Do you know you're a monster?» asked Toph. And I could tell from her voice that she was jealous of me.

«Heh. You have just as much potential and if you don't give up practicing, you can be, if not the same, then close», she just hummed and nodded. When he saw Appa, he turned to Toph again, «Aang's flying in. Do you need a ride?»

«Will you get in?» she asked doubtfully.

«Not likely, of course», I shrugged, «But as an option, it's pretty much okay.»

«Oh, no. I'd rather walk», she shook her head, «Where's the palace?»

I watched as ours climbed up my path with no difficulty at all. Those who remained were easily killed. I'm not really needed here. Then I could go and oversee the overthrow of Ozai.

«Come, I'll go with you. My help is not needed here.»

And I took Toph in my arms, threw her behind my back, and walked towards the palace. Interestingly enough, I arrived a little before the Avatar. I put Toph down calmly, concentrated and sent a pulse. I didn't like what I saw. Besides the fact that there were huge networks of caves under the palace, there were hundreds of fire warriors in them.

To get a more accurate answer, I closed my eyes, concentrated again, and after gathering enough power, I sent a pulse down. Since I had not spared my strength, my body suffered a bit. But the amount of information almost knocked me out.

Of course, I shouldn't have sent the impulse, it would have been much easier. But I understood the main point and so I started to treat myself after I had collected water from the air. When Aang arrived, I decided to make him happy. I had indeed done the right thing.

«We're in trouble», I said as Soka and Aang jumped off the Appa, «They were waiting for us. I don't know how, but they've been preparing», seeing the confused faces, I decided to explain, «There's a huge network of caves under the palace. There are thousands of people there. There are only a dozen in the palace itself. But that's not the point.»

«Then what could be worse?» hesitated Soka as I caught my breath.

«Behind the volcano, on the far side, there are about two dozen airships preparing to take off», their faces turned desperate, «Don't get sour. Soka, take Appa and trumpet a retreat, maybe you can make it to the water. I'll help you there. I'll go in with Toph and Aang. Let's not reveal what we've learned about what they knew about our invasion yet.»

«Good. Soka, fly», Aang said. Soka didn't want to fly away, but there was nothing he could do. As he flew away, Aang turned to me, «If I can fly away in the glider, how will you escape?»

«I'll figure it out there and then», I waved my hand and went inside.

The only people in the palace were in the throne room. That's where we ran. We got there fast enough and Aang kicked the air out of the huge doors and rushed in, followed by us. Where we did a fake clap. You know, not really slow, but not fast either, and seeing the face of the one who clapped us, all doubts disappeared.

«And you got here a little earlier than I expected.»

«Azula», Aang muttered hatefully.

«Is that the one who is Ozai's daughter?» I inquired.

«She's the one», Aang nodded.

«And who will you be?» she asked me. I removed the metal from my head, leaving a plate on the back of my head. The reaction followed immediately, «You!» wow, how she was skewered.

«You two know each other?» asked Aang in surprise, but seeing my surprised face as well, he shifted his gaze to Azula.

«I think», I guessed, «She's mad at me for having a good run in her country.»

«It doesn't matter now», she calmed down, «You shouldn't have come here.»

«Where's Ozai?» Aang asked menacingly. Well, as much as a fourteen year old could. Azula clearly appreciated it.

«And mind you, I can sense lies. So lying is pointless», Toph added.

«Really?» she arched an eyebrow, «I'm a very good liar. I'm a pink unicorn who likes to chew grass. I'm a guy and I'm six million years old.»

«Okay, you can do some things», interestingly enough, I didn't feel the lie either. Or rather, no sign of it.
