Chapter 67: Chapter 67
One week. That was how long it took her to clear her chakras. One day per chakra. And it was mostly my fault. I saw when she was opening a new chakra, so I took her out of meditation, made her eat and do warm-ups, good, and sleep. Especially since she hadn't fully recovered from her past trauma.
It wasn't in her best interest to get into more trouble. So she was angry, but more under her breath and to herself. Chakra that had been cleared once was much easier to clear again, so Azula really had nothing to lose.
But the result was worth it. Magic returned to her. And interestingly, she didn't try to escape. That was progress I could be proud of.
«Are we going back to the island?» asked Azula when we had eaten and I was doing the dishes, making full use of the water magic.
«Why?» she knows how to ask a question. Although, really, why? I know where the invasion will start. I know when. Zuko, how's the fire magic teacher? I have Azula, and I'm my own teacher. Company and companionship? Well, on the other hand, Azula's more interesting, with her constant escapades, it's hard to get bored. Any other reasons? There aren't any.
«Any other ideas?» I asked, finishing the dishes and packing everything into my backpack.
«I want to go back and see Mei and Tai Li», she shrugged when I looked at her without waiting for an answer.
«Hmm... that can be arranged», I muttered thoughtfully, calculating our chances. And they were great: «Except, you do realize that I'm going with you, right? And if we're seen together, you'll be in a lot of trouble.»
«Why are you following me around like a mommy?» she said irritated.
«Well, I sort of kidnapped you. And you're my prisoner of war», I glared at her as she played with the fire, «A very willful prisoner of war.»
«So maybe I should run away from you?» she stopped playing with the fire and asked with a smile, looking into my eyes.
«Would you like to?» I asked seriously, not staying in debt and staring back.
«And will you let go?» she stopped smiling.
«I am well aware that Ozai will not stop attacking because of you. So your captivity is pointless», i spoke seriously, still looking into her eyes, «If you want, you can leave. I won't keep you», I turned away and put my backpack on my back, «It would just be a shame to let such a companion go. You're an interesting person and not boring.»
Without looking back, I walked towards the sea. I'll wait for the invasion on the beach. Sun, sea and beach. I'll build a little house and spend time there, waiting and alone. But about thirty minutes later, a voice caught up with me.
«Stop, asshole», Azula yelled as she caught up with me. I stopped and, after waiting for her, raised my eyebrows in surprise, «You have all the dishes. It's not like I can eat out of my hand.»
«I see», I nodded gravely, knowing she had a spare set.
We walked on in silence. It wasn't a long way, but we still had a few days before we reached the sea. And then we'd be attacked in a week.
It's hard to walk for three days and not say anything. So we started talking, a little at first, and then more and more. Just talking. Talking about nothing, arguing about little things, like which tree can grow bigger? And I can safely say it was the most interesting trip I've ever been on.
We stopped in a few towns along the way, and after shopping for everything we needed, we came to the beach. This is where the beauty is. After looking at all this, a question popped into my head.
«Listen, what are you going to do after the war?» I asked, distracted from the view, looking for a place to build a hut.
«What do you mean?» she asked uncomprehendingly. During the time she had been talking to me, she had begun to express her feelings more boldly.
«Well, let's see. Soon, when the comet arrives, Ozai will fall. It doesn't matter who stops him, Aang or me. But he will fall. What are you going to do?» I tried on the huge tree. Should I cut it or not? I decided not to cut it. «Will you go back home and lead the people? Or something else?»
«It's hard to say. I haven't really thought about it. I'll probably go back», she shrugged. There was a silence. «What about you?»
«Well, I back to Kyoshi Island», I said, compacting the ground under the foundation, «I train people there. I remember when I was traveling, I had the idea of building an orphanage for children. After the war, it will be very important», I made a wall and moved it to the foundation, fusing them together, «I have the strength and brains to organize everything. I have enough knowledge. I'll raise them, give them an education, a home, food. Teach them martial arts», I created another, the back one, and fused it to the foundation as well. «Fire magic will be difficult. And air is bad. But that's okay. The main thing is to want, and then I will find a solution to the problem», the third wall came into place, «It just needs a lot of space, but I think I will raise some land from the bottom and expand the island», for the ceiling had to move a little. But it was soon in its place as well.
Azula had a lot to think about. And I had almost done what I wanted to do. Another back wall comes into place, only on the second floor. On the first floor, I put two columns instead of a wall. On the second floor, I did the same, but a little higher, and added one in the corners. I ran for the ceiling again, only now it was at a slight angle, replacing the roof.
Now if I could just add some glass it would be great. But the only thing I knew about its manufacture was that it was made from sand, through high temperatures.
Although we're kind of on a beach where there's a lot of that. What the hell? Might as well make it. I shrugged my shoulders, stepped back a bit, and started experimenting. We got there around ten in the morning, so there was plenty of time before evening. And either I was lucky or the world was easier, but by evening I had almost transparent glass.
Now it was just a matter of getting it right. To find the right dimensions, to melt it with fire, to cool it down, and after making a frame, to put it in place. An hour's work, and the house had windows. And walls. And glass. It was worth the effort. I made a minimal division into rooms on the bottom floor and left the top floor as it was. When I was done, I went to eat. And during dinner, Azula came over to me. We sat and talked. And Azula couldn't stand it anymore.
«What would you advise me to do?» she said, meaning, not hard to guess, «What would you do in my place?»
«It's hard to say», I mumbled thoughtfully as I chewed, «On the one hand, the people. They've suffered and need help and stability. But here's the other. I've never liked politics. In fact, I hated it. I understood that there was no way to do without it, but I couldn't change my mind», the potatoes smelled delicious, especially with fresh venison. «I'd leave it up to Zuko to do what he wants», I shrugged and went back to eating. There was silence. Azula was thinking about her own thing, and I was aet.
«Do you need help?» she asked softly. But I heard her and turned to her. She turned hers away from me. But I could feel the blood rushing to her face.
«If you mean help with my idea, then yes, help is needed», I said, looking out at the sea again. Or is it the ocean? Never mind, «But not as a government. I don't want all sorts of kings snooping around where they shouldn't.»
«If you want...» the words came hard for her.
«I do», I interrupted, knowing exactly what she meant. «Is that what you want?»
«I'm tired», she replied a little carelessly.
Only, once again, I understood her. And so, putting my plate aside, I simply put my arms around her. She didn't resist. And after we lay there for a while, she fell asleep. I had to carry her in my arms into the house and put her on the bed. I went to bed myself. It had been a busy day.
