Chapter 42: Day before
POV Sarak
Name: Sarak
Class: Eccentric Spearmen
Level: 32
XP: 0/2,000
Strength- 28
Endurance-28
Agility: 32
Constitution: 4
Will: 6
Mind: 2
Spirit: 4
Skills: [Spears 8] [Swords 3] [hand to hand 2] [Daggers 1]
Abilities: [Empower] [Yell] [Phantom Lunge] [Twister] [Multi spear]
Using a multi spear, two more ghostly images of my spear speared on either side stabbing the monster in three different places at the same time. Unlike Phantom lunge which does something similar but only increases my weapons range.
"Didn't think spearmen would lead to this?" I said "I just chose the class associated with my weapon"
[Class: Spearmen]
[This class is an evolution of the fighter class, this class chose to focus not on their abilities but on their skills focusing on one weapon. The spearmen is a class that is commonly found in soldiers and highly valued during wartime]
[Stats per level: +1 strength, +1 endurance, +2 agility,]
"The abilities for eccentric spearman are quite good though"
[Class: Eccentric Spearmen]
[This class is an evolution of the spearmen class; this class does not boast any flashy abilities but focuses on the deadliness of their attacks. This class is usually seen during wartime and especially when a soldier is on the battlefield too long]
[Stats per level: +1 strength, +2 endurance, +2 agility,]
Currently I was on the thirty ninth floor, I had long left my team behind and climbing any higher on your own presented a high risk of death. Hearing something quickly turned myself around seeing an identical creature to the previous one. A large electric eel that was quite long two, unlike other eels though this one flew through the air and used lighting spells.
"Haven't I killed enough of you"
Using my high agility, I threw myself at it using a phantom lung to quickly spear attack its head. Unfortunately, they have high agility for their size, and it moved out of the way.
"Shit" I said as I launched myself back barely missing the tail.
Out of the way I prepared to attack but I had to move to the side quickly to avoid another shot of its lightning. We were at a standstill.
"Time to die" I said, lunging forward.
I watched as it hissed at me and started charging itself with lightning, the color going from a light blue to yellow. Before it completes its spell, my spear ripped through its body, almost tearing it in half.
Reaching into my bag I pulled out some jerky. "That was annoying," I said, taking a bite "Less than two days till the tournament which mean I need to go down the tower tomorrow"
This tournament better be worth it we can't purposefully kill but it said nothing about critical or life-threatening injuries.
"Alright let's get to it" I said walking deeper into the floor.
POV Zuko
Name: Zuko
Class: Firebender
Level: 24
XP: 323/950
Strength- 14
Endurance-8
Agility: 20
Constitution: 6
Will: 5
Mind: 12
Spirit: 17
Skills: [Swords 7] [Hand to hand 5] [Firebending 5]
Abilities: [Quick step] [Intense flames] [Getsuga tenshou]
"What's taking so long?" I asked frustrated.
"Kid it's not easy making blades that will handle whatever you did to the other ones" The burly man said.
Unfortunately, in my training for the tournament I used Getsuga tenshou and the intense heat melted my blades.
"The tournament is tomorrow; I need these blades ready"
"Shut the hell up kid" the man said, finally losing his temper "My apprentice is literally finishing them up right now, when I say they're ready tomorrow I don't mean at the crack of dawn".
Before I could retort, a kid about my age came from the back holding two blades.
"Master, I'm done," he said to the blacksmith.
The blacksmith grabbed the blades and threw them on the table "Same price as yesterday but plus twenty percent for bothering me"
"They are enchanted to be heat resistant, though due to the difficulty of that enchantment that is the only one on it. They are made however of metal from the tower so they should be strong enough" The apprentice spoke up.
Giving him a glare I threw the money on the table and picked up the blades leaving the store behind. They were very similar to my previous ones, though a bit thinner and lighter. The guard had also been changed to be a bit longer and have an S shape to catch weapons on one side and protect my hand on the other.
"You have your new blades Zuko?" Uncle Iroh asked.
Putting them into their provided sheaths I said "Yes, now I need to go train"
"I would suggest you don't train today"
"What?" I said, turning both angry and confused.
"You have been climbing the tower since you got here. It would be best for you to take a break, let your mind and body rest. Anymore and you may just burn yourself out" Iroh said laughing at his pun.
"I need to win this tournament, I need to prove myself" I yelled.
"See you are already overworked anymore and you will cause your own loss"
"Fine" I resolved.
"Let's head back home and have some tea"
I didn't answer him, just kept walking alongside him, fingers drumming on the pommel of my swords.
POV Pakku
Despite my constant visits I never made it a priority to climb the tower until a few days ago when the tournament was announced. I had no intention of participating, but the chief asked anyway so I have been practically living in the tower to level up.
Stroking my facial hair I said "This is about as far as I am going to get" while looking at my status.
Name: Pakku
Class: Waterbender
Level: 25
XP: 5/1,100
Strength- 12
Endurance-8
Agility: 24
Constitution: 7
Will: 12
Mind: 5
Spirit: 27
Skills: [Waterbending 8] [Healing 2]
Abilities: [Pressured water] [Ice weapons] [Water squid] [Full moon]
"The tournament is tomorrow so I don't have any more time to level up. So, let's test out my new ability"
Activating the full moon ability, I felt power rush into me, like all full moons the power made me feel at least ten years younger.
"That feels good," I said to myself.
Stretching, I activated my other ability; water squid; wanting to see the effects of a full moon on it. Like normal a circle of water surrounded me, and eight tentacles sprang from it. It was a normal waterbending move but I didn't have to actually control it. Under the effects of a full moon the squid grew to almost twice its size.
"This will come in handy, too bad the ability is purely offensive"
Noticing the looks I got from the other climbers I deactivated my ability and started climbing back down the tower. The tournament was tomorrow anyway. A good night's rest will do me some good, most people though will be training up until the actual day of or start of the tournament.
After exiting the tower, I made my way towards the water tribes' area of the town, near the gate. Before I entered my own abode I saw about forty people outside the gate, each one was sparring with one another. Walking over to check it out I saw a clear distinction between benders sparring and where other classes were.
"You are all doing this wrong" I said evenly but my voice carried over the crowd.
"What did you say, old timer?" A muscular young man asked, stepping through the crowd.
"I said you are all sparring wrong"
"Perhaps you would like to join"
Smirking I said "Alright"
The people around us made a wide ring surrounding us two.
"Start," the young man said.
He burst at me with some respectable speed, but I leaned out of the way. Pulling some water out of the surrounding peoples pouches I used pressurized water making it denser. Then I grabbed onto his foot and pulled back, making him slam into the ground.
"You were too quick to attack, patience is a key element in battle"
Standing back up the young man glared at me, a slightly reddish light appeared on his body, and he raised at me with even more speed. Using the same water, I launched some towards his feet making to grab it again, but he jumped over it. The faint had worked, and I slammed another dense thing of water into his face making him flip back a few times landing on his head with his butt in the air.
"Pay attention to your surroundings"
Everyone was staring until a young earth kingdom women asked "What are doing wrong"
"You have benders separated from the other classes" I explained.
"So?" someone asked.
"You will face benders in the tournament, and while your abilities are powerful a bender can keep up their bending longer than your skills will work" I said simply.
Pointing at an earthbender I said "you" then pointed at a random person from the other group "and you spar first"

Thanks for reading, I am hanging out with my family today so this may be the only chapter I release today, that's not a guarantee but just a high likelihood. Also, if anyone is confused by the stat per level difference between mages and more physical classes, mages usually get less per level because they have more control over their spells/abilities which can make up for that easily.
