Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Won the Prize!
The sky was brightening.
Eve Thompson jolted awake. She sat up suddenly, her eyes still dazed, but she quickly grabbed her phone and checked the time: 7:00 AM.
Eve Thompson: ...
She slapped her forehead in regret. She was clearly thinking about how to please Mr. Charlie last night, so how did she fall asleep?
Looking at the bed, Anthony Charlie probably didn't come in all night.
There was only a chance to see him twice a month. If she didn't seize yesterday's opportunity, wouldn't she have to wait half a month?
Eve hurriedly jumped out of bed, hoping Anthony hadn't left for work yet.
She opened the door and rushed out, just to see Anthony eating breakfast in the dining room.
There were dark circles under his eyes, like he hadn't slept well the night before. Even though he sat there expressionless, he exuded an imposing aura.
Eve slowly descended the stairs, approached the dining table, and greeted him in a soft, sweet voice: "Mr. Charlie, did you sleep well last night?"
As soon as her words fell, the man's face grew colder.
Eve didn't understand why, and was about to say something else when the butler walked over with a smile. "Miss Thompson, the old lady called just now and said that when you wake up, she wants you and Mr. Charlie to visit her. The car is already prepared."
-
The Charlie family's car was driving towards the nursing home.
Eve sat in the back seat, stealing a glance at Anthony, who was separated from her by an armrest.
He was holding a notebook, dealing with company matters. The man's side profile was sharp, and his full concentration on the screen made him look even more attractive.
As Eve watched him, she became lost in thought.
What topic could she bring up to chat with him? Surely they couldn't just sit in silence for the whole journey?
Just as she thought about it, something happened: the man's eyebrows furrowed slightly, startling her. She immediately averted her gaze.
She hung her head, not daring to move.
Anthony caught sight of her reaction from the corner of his eye and snickered coldly.
She probably didn't fall asleep on purpose last night; otherwise, she wouldn't have rushed out so frantically this morning and relaxed when she saw him. And just now, she stared at him with a hesitant expression, as if she intended to seize an opportunity to discuss the contract.
He simply closed his computer and waited for her to speak.
After a moment's silence in the car, Eve remembered something. She picked up her phone, opened an app, and looked at the lottery ticket she bought yesterday.
Five years ago, she formed a small habit: buying a lottery ticket every day, not for the sake of winning, but to see if her luck would turn around one day.
Of course, she hadn't won a single small prize in five years.
Eve had long given up hope and was just checking the winning information out of habit. Then she glanced at the screen casually.
Just as she was about to put away her phone, she suddenly froze!
She quickly lowered her head to check again!
Where there was originally a message saying "Thank you for your patronage," the screen clearly showed she won 2000 dollars!!
She won?! She finally had a change of fortune!
Eve excitedly grabbed the hand of the person next to her, wanting to share the good news!!
"I... "
Eve turned her head, and when she saw the face that was both handsome and infuriating, her words stopped abruptly, and her mind exploded! The joy of winning vanished!
In a momentary impulse, how could she have forgotten where she was?!
Suddenly, she realized something and her gaze slowly fell on the hand she was holding.
Instantly, she was petrified.
