Chapter 21
“……!”
Ash was drenched in cold sweat.
Gergys was terrifying.
His cold eyes, his expressionless face, and his overwhelmingly powerful presence—all of it was terrifying to death.
But an even more frightening presence was… Idsys.
If Gergys caught you, you’d get a few punches, but Idsys…
Ash quickly bowed his head and pleaded for forgiveness.
“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you two were here and tried to use my power. It’s my fault!”
Ash Jen Castalia.
He had been lucky to survive until the age of ten.
Born the same age as Alexandra, he quickly understood his place around the age of four. He had stuck to Alexandra’s side to keep his life safe.
He had no desire to become Emperor. He just wanted to pick up the scraps that fell from Alexandra’s table and grow up safely.
That was Ash’s only goal.
But now, Ash was about to really die.
Gergys approached without hesitation and grabbed his mouth with both hands, threatening to tear it apart.
“H-hngh, uuuh, ugh…!”
Ash cried out in pain and shed tears. In fact, he was already wet between his legs.
It was Idsys who stopped Gergys.
“Ah, wait a moment. Gergys, he can’t apologize if you do that.”
“Oh, right.”
“Make sure you apologize to her next time you see her. You’ve already lost, so don’t argue.”
“You lost your spirit. We saw you tuck your tail when she kicked you in the stomach, so don’t deny it.”
“And you tried to cheat. Using the power of the Dragon Heart to overpower her. If you wanted to win, you should have fought fair.”
Gergys and Idsys took turns scolding him and then disappeared again.
Ash was their cousin. He also had the Dragon Heart and wasn’t much younger than them.
But he could never, ever be like those monsters.
A deep sense of humiliation enveloped Ash’s entire body.
And that humiliation was directed, of course, at Cherishe.
‘How dare she make me feel this way?’
He wouldn’t let her get away with it.
Not understanding how shameful it was to try to trample on the weak because he couldn’t touch those stronger than him, Ash seethed with rage.
Of course, Cherishe knew nothing of this.
* * *
Ever since I received the playroom as a gift, the Prince always called for me at snack time.
He was very busy and always in his office, so I often ended up entering during meetings.
My snack time was set at 3 PM by Mrs. Nania.
‘But if he’s busy, he doesn’t have to call me.’
Yet, exactly at 3 PM, one of the aides would come to get me.
They always smiled brightly.
So today, I was on the Prince’s lap again.
“I heard you had a clash with Ash yesterday.”
“Um, yes.”
“I heard you stomped on him with all your might.”
“Yes!”
“Well done. The Jen kids are spoiled. You taught him a good lesson.”
The Prince praised me.
Hmm, but I think I’m spoiled enough too.
Because right now, I’m eating a sugar-coated churro on his lap.
Each bite I took sent cinnamon sugar sprinkling down.
Where?
Onto the perfectly creased trousers of the Prince…
“Oh no, dirty.”
I reached out my tiny hands and brushed off the sugar.
Behind me, the Prince was doing something with a comb.
Swish, swish.
The Prince gently combed my long golden hair with an ivory comb, parting it into two sections.
Then he carefully looked at the tray Solip was holding.
On the velvet-covered tray were several hair ties.
They were for tying my hair!
They had decorations like butterflies, chicks, cherries, and strawberries.
“What color do you want?”
“Umm.”
Today, I was wearing a red dress with wings on the back, so any of them would match.
I blinked my eyes and pointed at one with my gloved hand.
It was a hair tie with a round cherry decoration.
“That will suit you well.”
The Prince said as he braided my hair with a serious and focused expression while I munched on my churro.
Solip watched us and pushed his glasses up with a satisfied smile.
“I’ve been tolerating it since we couldn’t stop the Prince from entering, but now we have a reason to officially ban him.”
Solip seemed happy. I guess he was annoyed that Ash, who bore the Jen name, was sneaking around.
I shook my well-braided hair back and forth and smiled with satisfaction.
“It suits you well.”
“Thank you!”
The Prince would make a great Dad!
‘And it’s pleasant for my eyes too.’
While he was tying my hair, a mirror was placed in front of me, reflecting the handsome the Prince concentrating intently.
How could he be so handsome?
It’s hard to believe he’s a Dad with two kids.
“Would you like to play here?”
“Yes!”
Even though I had finished my churro, I didn’t leave the office right away.
It seemed like the Prince wanted to spend time with me.
‘And besides! The aides are giving me very desperate looks.’
You could tell how deadly the workload was just by the stack of documents towering over my height.
There were many aides too.
From early morning, they worked like oxen without rest, and when I appeared around 3 PM, their hands seemed to slow down a bit.
“Here you go, Princess. Sketchbook and crayons.”
Shami, who had been waiting, handed me the drawing tools.
The Prince’s office was immensely spacious, which made sense with eight aides.
But in one corner of the otherwise stark office, a spot was decorated in pastel pink, sky blue, and yellow.
There was a baby chair with wings, a white bookshelf, and a fluffy wool carpet on the floor that looked so soft.
‘A place just for me!’
I sat on my special chair, opened my sketchbook, and started coloring however I liked.
“How about taking a break with some Uslum tea, Your Highness?”
“Good idea.”
At Solip’s suggestion, Shami brewed some warm tea.
Soon, the room was filled with a sweet and tangy aroma.
While the aides took a break from their hard work, I finished a drawing and trotted over to the Prince with my sketchbook.
“Thump.”
“So cute.”
“The sketchbook is as big as her body…!”
At that, the aides around me started to cover their mouths, nearly in tears from trying to hold back their laughter.
I guess I am kind of cute!
Well, it’s natural for me to be beautiful since I’m royalty. It’s hard to find an unattractive person among the royals.
“Tomorrow, it’s my turn to fetch her!”
“The day after, it’s me!”
“Hey, that’s not fair! How dare you cut in line!”
I ignored the aides whispering and sneaking glances at me and opened my sketchbook.
“Tada!”
“What have you drawn this time?”
“It’s Dad again.”
“You have remarkable talent. Your use of color is bold and fresh. Capturing a person’s features abstractly opens new horizons in art.”
With such solemn praise, the aides nodded in agreement.
I know it’s not true, but praise makes a child dance with joy.
I grinned widely and flipped the sketchbook to show a drawing of a circle, a triangle, and a triangle cat.
“Dad, isn’t this nice?”
“Yes.”
“Do you know this kitty?”
The black heart cat has been appearing frequently ever since that day.
When I wake up in the morning, it’s purring next to me, or it walks alongside me, matching my pace in the hallways.
I meant to ask about it last time, but I got distracted by hints, so today is my chance.
“A kitty?”
“The white cat! It has this on its eyes.”
Swish.
I picked up a black crayon and drew a heart shape on the sketchbook.
That was when it happened.
“How do you know about this creature?”
…Huh?
“Can you see it?”
What? Why is he so serious?
I tilted my head, meeting the black heart cat’s eyes. It’s right there, so I can’t say I don’t see it.
And it seems like the Prince knows who this cat is.
“I can see it.”
“Ha.”
“Is it bad that I can see it?”
It’s not some royal secret that shouldn’t be revealed, right?
Or is it an omen of death?
Scared, I grabbed my cheeks with my hands and widened my eyes.
But instead of a sigh, what came out was… a laugh.
Huh?
“Amazing. You can see the familiar. Since when?”
Uh, what?
“Come here, Myul.”
The Prince stretched out his hand confidently in front of everyone. The black heart cat jumped onto his arm and walked up to his shoulder.
I was left speechless, watching the cat now sitting on the Prince’s shoulder.
“Do you know this kitty?!”
“Of course, I do. It’s my familiar.”
Meow.
The black heart cat meowed softly, as if agreeing with the Prince.
“If you can see it, which eye has the heart pattern?”
“The left. A black heart!”
“Exactly. You really can see it.”
What’s a familiar?
It seems like other people can’t see it.
The aides looked utterly confused, except Solip, who seemed to know something, judging by the way he was touching his lips thoughtfully.
‘But if a familiar is something summoned by royalty…’
Suddenly, I had a realization.
‘Then that clown rabbit must have been summoned by one of the royals too…?’
