Chapter 27: Chapter 27 In the Other Realm
"At first, it was fine the government concentrated on protecting the people's rights and staying away from foreign affairs. Keeping the life of the small man affordable, just like this realm,"
"But slowly, that started chipping away. They took away what rights we had slowly through the years, some knew of it, some didn't, but then life started to get tough, they couldn't buy food as much as they couldn't have. They were lied to for control,"
"Chaos ensued afterward, an angry world is what they wanted, and they got that. It gave what they needed, taking what little was left. There was barely enough room to talk about it,"
"There was calamity almost everywhere," Shai told them,
"Like in this world," the other figure interrupted
"Yeah, in some ways," Shai answered
"How bad did it get?" The figure asked
"Just like here, riots were happening to a boiling point. It was stopped by people coming together,"
"Afterward, they got their country to a better place. Then it was ever before."
"That is what I know from the records and what I have witnessed. What is happening here is all too familiar," Shai told them
"I would take you as one to look for it," Zeus said
"I just wanted to see who was true and what was slanderous," Shai said
Zeus watched Shai while she explained what happened... She had more experience than he thought. Athena has told him that she is more than she seems and is able to trick Ares,
"The AI, what do you think of it?" The figure asked
Shai remembers Hermans's character. Both in strength from the break-in and how intelligent he is.
"After he tried to kill Yuval, I know he will do what they programmed it to do and end humanity as we know it."
"Why would he do that still? It tried to kill Yuval, right? Why continue what they wanted him to do," the figure uttered
"Why not? First, he will find the one who helped him do this to him as a warning to the people who changed him. But they will try to take back control of him... if they have his panel," Shai explains
"You're right," the figure huffed
"Sometimes being told you're right can gratifying but now it's humbling... but this situation makes it more difficult,"
Shai let out a huff before looking at Zeus. He was waiting for her to say something more.
"It doesn't give you joy," Shai continued
"It never does, Shai," Zeus said
Zeus placed his mug on the table and looked over at the figures, who flinched at his gaze. They have witnessed what Zeus can do.
"Figures have they know of this," Zeus asked
The figure felt a shiver go down his spin, he knew that Zeus didn't know if the other figure wasn't supposed to be involved with this, The other figure glanced at the figure seeing that he was thinking of what to say,
"They only know of me being involved,"
"Do they know of us meeting her?" Zeus asked
"They don't,"
Zeus glanced over at them and thought,
"They would have known by now. Why would they keep it away from him,"
"Shai,"
Shai turned to him. "Yeah,"
"When your weapon will show itself and it will. At first, you won't understand it, but when you do, it all comes together. But when it does appear,"
Shai noticed his eyes glowing a bright blue. His stare is strict, demanding her full attention.
"You will be fighting with it by your side,"
Zeus had lighting go off him. Shai witnessed this, and it glowed in her veins... but it didn't burn.
"I will be there to help you. If not one of the other deities that you have to meet will," Zeus told her
Shai sat there thinking of what they had talked about. The weapon, would I be able to control it, or will it control me? It could cause massive problems in this world. But she would be there for it.
"Hypothetical, what would happen if I couldn't control its might? What would happen?" Shai asked
"You would have to ask them," Zeus told her
Zeus pointed at the figures, Shai turned to them, and they didn't know what to say. They said nothing of the weapon. Only of what the woman would be able to hold it, the scroll was torn of what remained to be seen.
"We don't know," the other figure said
"What do you mean? You didn't see the scroll before it was torn," Shai inquired
"No, we aren't that old Shai, we have never seen the bottom of the scroll,"
"You will have to find out yourself, Shai," He continued
"Will I know when it's around?"
Shai stared up at the figure, but her vision started to blur. She could hear the figure trying to tell her something. Shai went to grab the table, but shecouldn'tdn't. She felt her body evaporating. A voice she remembered yelling out for her, Shai stood up from the chair, scarring the figures, her breath heavy. The figure got up and tried to help her sit back down,
"She not hearing us," the other figure said
"No, she isn't she must be hearing someone else," the figure told him,
Shai heard them, but the voice continued to call out to her. Shai's vision turns black, and her body disappears. The figures watched her form fall, and the figure let his arms fall. The other figure sat back down with his hand over his face,
"One day, she will be able to go here and to her world," Zeus told them
The figure pushed the chair on the table, and he wondered how the weapon would appear to her without a dangerous outcome.
"She will, but how long will she have to suffer for this?"
"I'm not sure,"
"Leif Aqua to the front desk,"
Sonya placed the microphone down, walking to the desk. She knew seeing him again would be dangerous, but the lighting and the figure. It was all too much for her to handle at that moment.
There is something else wrong here. Other than the cold case of Shai Aqua,
Sonya stopped at the desk lo ok k in ng around the room, looking for Leif; Sonya held the papers she had from the case; there was only so much they could gather. But more cases like hers kept showing up. Not taking a person but weird anomalies showed themselves. Figures. Clouds with a humanoid figure in it... it was all disturbing to her. It didn't help that the chief kept placing her in the cases.
"Shouldn't it go to someone more competent," Sonya asked
The chief sat at his desk holding his coffee while reading one of the new cases. He placed it down and looked up at her,
"No one else looks better for the case than you, not even the intelligence community wants to touch this, Sonya," He said
"I sure there would have been someone better for this, sir,"
The chief noticed how hesitant she was. Her hand gripped tightly to her pants and how her eyes moved away from him,
"Tell me, why wouldn't they want to look into this, sir? This could be big, and a person is missing, then with all the weird things around it causing other cases," Sonya continued
The chief sat back. Maybe she was getting onto something. Why wouldn't they touch this case? They would get more credit for their endeavors for saving a woman and figuring out what accorded for her to be taken.
"Sonya, I will see why they don't want anything to do with this case," He told her
Sonya was about to respond, but he stopped her, having the papers in his hands. He placed it down for her to read, the information she made from her visit with Leif.
"From what I've read so far, you know how to handle this more than your co-workers and the intelligent community,"
"Sir, I still don't want to do this... I just go back to the other cases," Sonya responded
"I can't force you to do this, Sonya,"
He got up from his chair and walked to her. He saw how strained she looked. The countless nights she had been looking into the occurrences, he felt guilt hit him. He used to have to do the same thing. Sonya let out a huff. She knew that this would be his answer, but she didn't know how long she could handle this.
"But, I have one more question to ask Sonya,"
Sonya's gaze went to him, and a glint in his eye was knowing and encouraging. I told her all she needed to know; it was decided already.
"Who will replace you in this investigation?"
"I'm not sure, sir," Sonya muttered
Sonya knew if it wasn't her, it might be Dia. However, she was on patrol more often than her. It would be on her shoulders again. The chief waited for her answer patiently, Sonya dug her nails into her palm.
"No one but,"
Sonya saw his face have a soft frown on it, and she let go of her grip.
"But myself,"
"You understand then, Sonya,"
Sonya glanced at the papers on her desk. She didn't want to continue this case. She didn't think it would be solved if she wasn't working on it.
The chief thought on it and said,
"If you need a break, tell me, before you continue, I will give you a week,"
"A week is enough time, sir," Sonya said
"Then I will see you then,"
"Sonya,"
Sonya grabbed the papers and looked at the chief,
"Are you there?"
Sonya walked out of his office looking forward to the time, She felt a hand on her shoulder and her chin being lifted,
"Sonya?"
Sonya stared at Leif, who looked at her worried. It's only been a month after the incident, but it didn't stop him from thinking of her. Sonya grabs his hand, pulling it away from her chin.
"Nice to see you again, Leif,"
"Nice to see you as well,"
Leif looked down at her other hand and saw the papers. It had his name along with Shai's.
"What are those for?" Leif asked
"That is for me and you to look over," Sonya said
"What? I'm just a..."
"You are now working with me to find your daughter," Sonya cuts him off
Leif went quiet, staring at the papers; if this would help his daughter, then he would do it.
"Where do we start?"
"In my office," Sonya told him
Sonya turned around and walked back into the station, Leif followed her and watched other officers pass by them, one of them was Dia, who looked at both of them before smiling at Leif, he smiled at her back but he didn't notice Sonya stopped bumping into her,
"We're here,"
Sonya opened the door for him, he walked in seeing the office organized, it had papers on the wall about the incident at Clover Street to the disappearance of his daughter, Sonya walked to her desk and went over the wall that had papers on it,
