BECOMING AN ANCESTOR

Chapter 16: Under new leadership

"You, come here."

"Yes, sir."

"Take him, leave him alone there."

"I ordered to place the unconscious body of the former leader in an isolated corner of the flock."

"Come here!"

The whole flock quickly mobilized. At the moment I defeated the former leader, everyone couldn't believe it. But now, with a command from me, they all ran to answer my call.

"From now on, I will be the leader. Anyone who challenges me for the position?"

Everyone tensed up but remained silent as I looked at each of them, especially the former leader's major rivals.

"Great, since no one opposed, it means I succeeded. Now, I can do whatever I want."

"Alright, everyone can leave."

So, I began my ascent to the place where the former leader used to stay, the best and highest part of the tree.

By my side were my friends, and my mother also climbed to the top.

And thus, I ended that day.

With the sunrise, I woke up.

Not as just anyone or someone slightly important but as a leader.

Now, everyone here will obey me. I already have ideas to implement.

The first will be to choose those who will follow me. I have to choose the most reliable ones, obviously, as much as possible.

Although I can communicate with them only to a small extent, they can respond to simple questions, understand that I am referring to them with something specific, or follow a somewhat complex order.

If you ask me, I think humans might be descendants of these more intelligent beings.

Of course, none of them will start talking suddenly, not just because of intelligence but biological reasons.

For a while, I tried to speak the human language.

And the result was disastrous.

Firstly, the sound was very strange and animal-like. My vocal cords couldn't produce any form of language that was understandable.

I tried saying my name, Alexander.

But what came out was something like Aoiledser.

So, since human vocals couldn't be used, I thought of developing my own language with my vocal cords. Still, teaching that will take time, not only teaching but developing a functional language will be very difficult. I also thought about sign language, as it works in movies, but despite the intelligence of some members, none here has intelligence due to genetic change or shining eyes.

So, I didn't discard all the ideas, but I will have to postpone them for the future. At the moment, I can communicate well with all individuals, so I won't need a complex language for now.

"Leader, you've awakened."

"Uhm, how is everyone?"

"Many are still asleep."

"Okay, call those awake."

"Yes, sir."

After I ordered to call those in the flock who were awake, I observed how everything was.

Now, as the leader, I have many more responsibilities. I can't just go wandering around.

Although I can do anything I want, being the leader also puts me in a position with some limitations.

"Here they are, leader."

"Great, come closer."

There were a total of 16 males who were awake. Nine lived at the bottom, six in the middle, and one lived at the top.

The one living at the top was one of the former leader's major rivals.

I named the former leader Martins, and I like to call this one Marcos.

They were friends and rivals, and he is also my biggest suspect in case of a rebellion attempt.

"You nine stay around the flock and shout if you see anything."

The nine lowered their heads and agreed without complaint. In fact, they were happy since someone in their position wouldn't even talk to the leader, let alone be assigned a task.

"You six will gather as many fruits as you can and bring them here."

"Yes, sir."

The same thing happened with those in the middle.

And finally.

"What will I do, leader?"

"You will follow me."

With that, I went to the place of the former leader.

Marcos followed me as I instructed.

"You stay here."

I instructed him to stand in front of the former leader, who was still sleeping.

I took a dagger and gave it to him.

"Kill him."

Marcos looked at me and then at the former leader.

I could identify certain emotions.

Confusion, sadness, anger, fear, and anguish.

He began to breathe a little deeply but raised the dagger and was about to deliver a fatal blow to the one who was once his friend and rival.

When he was about to attack, I stopped him.

"Great, you can go back now."

Marcos was one of the intelligent ones. He knew, even by instinct, that it was all a test for me to determine if he was reliable.

Soon, everyone woke up, and a new day began for everyone, one that would be remembered for many years and called "the beginning of expansion."
