Chapter 4: Ancestors
It's been a week since I joined the tribe. My conclusion? I'm not dreaming. My situation? I honestly have no idea about the reason or cause. The only thing I know is that I'm a monkey. To be more precise, probably an Australopithecus or something similar. I'm not on a strange planet; I'm on Earth. But based on everything I've recorded and observed, I'm about 2 to 3 million years in the past, or in my current case. This means I'm in trouble.
At least I have some good news. First, I've gotten used to the tribe's customs. They aren't so different from chimpanzees. They have a somewhat humanized relationship, or what will be humanized in the future. They are very social. There haven't been any conflicts this week, so I can't speak about violence, but... they each keep to themselves. Now the phrase "each monkey in its own square" makes sense. Basically, everyone does what they should and doesn't bother others.
My mother, my sisters, and I are in the middle age range. This allows us to enjoy certain benefits, not being down on the ground. We can stay on the branches of low and medium-sized trees comfortably. While those below are forced to stay on the ground and are unable to climb the trees unless it's extremely necessary, like if a predator appears. Something happened, and I was almost scared out of my wits. Actually, I think I was scared out of my wits, but let's save that conversation for another day.
Well, one of the reasons I believe I'm on Earth and millions of years in the past, roughly about 2 or 3 million years ago, is the vegetation, animals, climate, and especially the stars.
Astrology wasn't my strong suit, but when you live to be 95 years old, you pick up a thing or two. As I researched a lot about ancient things, I also looked into how stars, constellations, and the night sky might have appeared millions of years ago. This is what we theorized about how it would be, whether in terms of constellations or positions. Based on the celestial configuration, I'm likely in Africa, probably in an area near Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Kenya, or at least where these places will be. This led me to the idea of being an Australopithecus, as during this time and in this region is where they were found, so I must be one of them. Probably, since I resemble a chimpanzee, just a bit smaller. And the predator that appeared confirmed this for me.
Homotherium
Or as I would like to call them, "hyena tails". Basically, they are like primitive leopards. One fun feature I discovered was their hyena tails. This was confirmation, since Homotherium should only have existed two, three million years ago in my case, now. Sigh
When it appeared, I was in awe. It had only been three days since I had joined the tribe, and I was quite uncertain about what was happening. The stars had made me curious, but when I saw the first primitive predator appear, it sort of confirmed the idea. I haven't explored things yet, and I probably won't be able to. I don't have any weapons, tools for mobility, or anything. I'll have to do everything from scratch, but at least I know how to do it, which should give me a good head start. I wonder if I'll be able to teach some things like primitive tool-making. If I teach it well, over the years, to the children and beyond, it might bring about some changes in human evolution.
