Chapter 13: No
Chapter 13
She swore she was exhausted, famished, and thirsty from all this running and fighting. What she needed was a loaf of warm bread and water and a hot bath. the hot bath was more important because she was filthy, she had never been this filthy even during hardcore training with her father.
" Food, bed, water, bath" was what Lana chanted as she breezed through the forest with Coal who had not left her hand for more than five seconds.
The wolves were far behind, unable to keep up with highly trained creatures.
As soon as Lana and their group heard the alarm which halted their celebration they immediately took to their heels.
Like high school students caught vandalizing the school property, they scattered around, confusing the poor normal wolves.
Who were they to go after, seventeen prisoners, which one is more important, which one is the slowest, won't the slowest be the strongest, because what they can't make up in speed they make up in strength.
The confused wolves slowed to a stop, what were they to do, if they came back empty-handed they would be done for, it was better to remain where they were and let the others take the fall.
As they were deliberating a nearby tree shook and something jumped down. The guards around that area took a step back before it landed on their heads.
they looked at what fell to see a very cute child, he blinked his big eyes at them and pouted as if accusing them of stepping back.
This child, although he looked exotic with his purple hair and blue eyes was part of the prisoners,
'his appearance does seem like a prisoner's.' the guards thought.
They made to grab him when the young boy in front of them started growing in size, their eyes widened in surprise, and this time they took a continuous step backward when he kept growing.
their eyes widened in horror. the child grew into a big man, twice their size and he still kept growing.
There was a smirk on the now big man's face, he grew to an intimidating size, three times a normal wolf, and the guards had fear on their faces.
the little boy smiled, this was one of the perks of being a shapeshifter.
Too bad he couldn't stay to play he had to catch up to the others.
He put a finger on his lips to which they nodded hurriedly,
Before their eyes, the big man ran at an amazing speed feeding them dust in his wake.
The others were already far ahead there was no way he was going to catch up to them.
He quickly shifted into a hound and chased after their scent.
The man, currently a hound was an eight-year-old shapeshifter, born and raised in slavery, his mother was a slave who was bought by an abusive man, she had him, but she wasn't able to give him a name before he was taken away and sold over and over again.
And now he was free
He did not have to do what others asked him to, he could now live for himself and not based on someone's orders.
His collar, he suddenly remembered the material around his neck which was put there by his last owner. he slowed to a stop and touched his collar, the cold material annoyed him. He is free now so he can take it off.
He held the disgusting material in his hand and tugged at it, it buzzed but refused to come off, he used more force and the same thing happened.
He gave up, it looked like he was going to be a slave for life no matter where he went to.
With that thought he stopped and ran the other way, away from the others, he was going to find his own path, he no longer wanted to do others' bidding, he longed for freedom, freedom of choice in thoughts and actions, he wanted all of that and he was going to get it, all by himself.
First, it was time to pay his master a very important visit.
*********
She made it,
She has finally gotten home, she missed home even if she was just apart from it only for a day, she never wants to leave again.
She sniffed and dramatically dropped to the ground, on her knees she rubbed her face on the soil not minding the dirt, she could smell hers and her father's scent everywhere.
Coal looked at her weirdly, well at least some of them were happy to be home.
Although looking around there was nothing just a pond and a space, he looked back at her and frowned.
" What a weird girl," he said in his mind before shaking his head.
Lana stood up and dusted her skirt, she arranged herself as best as she could, she could not wait to tell her father all that happened in not more than twenty-four hours.
She searched for Coal's hand and held it, looking back she hoped the others would be ok on their own, too bad they all separated after the guards stopped chasing, only Coal stuck with her.
" My dad would be happy to have you," she told him before pulling him past the barrier.
Coal felt a slight tingle in the skin and understood, that there was a barrier around the house that kept intruders away.
Before him was a cute cottage, it was not big or wide, nothing special, but it gave off homey vibes and smelled of flowers and .....
Some strange smell...
Lana frowned, they never had visitors, why was there a foreign smell here?
How did they find out where they lived?
Wait
"Five years ago" Lana whispered out loud, she knew that smell, she had been followed by this smell before, almost killed by this smell, and the reason for all intensive training was because of this same smell.
How??
Lana ran, she ran with coal into the small wood house built on a loving foundation, hammered with love and painted in passion and kindness, her parents' hard work.
As soon as she got into the house she was hit by the smell of blood, blood everywhere.
" Father!!"
She ran around the house only to step on something squishy in the kitchen.
Coal came to her and held her back, he slowly dragged her away from the mangled body and out of the house.
Slowly he cleaned the blood ridding it of all stench while Lana stared unseeing out of the window. Regret flooded her mind.
If only she had not gone out on the stupid birthday.
If only she has stayed home like her heart and mind told her to.
If only she has celebrated like every other year non of this would have happened.
Both her parents died on her birthday, she was a curse,
It was all her fault. If only she was never born.
