Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The Mystery of the Origin Under the Ancient Mirror
As soon as Arthur Lindsey finished speaking, a group of robust bodyguards in black rushed in. They held long pieces of black cloth and blindfolded all the maids.
Without any delay, the blindfolded maids were hoisted onto the vehicles and quickly taken out of the castle.
Oh my gosh, it was such a breathtaking scene!
Ella Lacey's large watery eyes stared blankly at the scene. Arthur wasn't driving her out, but them...it was beyond surprising!
Feeling fortunate, her little heart couldn't help but flutter with joy. She ran up to Arthur, all flattery and said, "Arthur, that was awesome, V587! Ella appreciates it. I love this ruthless and domineering CEO image of yours!"
Arthur Lindsey stood up straight, his cool gaze fixed on her, "When did you start becoming picky about your food, huh?"
When Ella Lacey was a child living in the orphanage, her meals were plain and simple. She never fussed about her meals. Whatever the master in the canteen cooked, she ate. The bottom of her bowl was always clean.
After joining the Lindsey Family, her life took a drastic turn, but she still ate whatever was on the table without being picky. In the Lindsey's house, she was the only one whose dish almost didn't need detergent to clean because her dishes were always so clean.
"I..." Ella hesitated to speak. She indeed wasn't picky, "Arthur... I just feel it's way too extravagant and wasteful. There are so many homeless people out there who can't even afford a decent meal. Yet, I am here overwhelmed and sometimes can't bring myself to eat..."
Upon hearing this, Arthur's deep and enchanting gaze underwent a slight change, his expression softened a bit.
"Arthur, I'll only eat one dish, and we will pack the rest and send it to the orphanage, alright?"
Seeing him silent, Ella plucked up the courage to suggest. Then she casually grabbed a French dessert to eat. As she ate, she gave Arthur a thumbs-up, "This is delicious! If we send these dishes to the orphanage, the kids will love it! It's a real feast!"
"..." Arthur didn't say anything. He waved his hand, and the bodyguards who were waiting outside orderly walked in. Before long, the hundred plus dishes on the table were packed up and shipped off to the orphanage in the city.
"Arthur, why don't they need to wear blindfolds? Aren't you afraid they'll leak the location of your castle?" Ella, who had her fill, was curious about these men in black.
The maids who were taken away earlier were all blindfolded. She was also blindfolded by Arthur on her way to the castle.
Obviously, he didn't want anyone to know the exact location of the castle!
"Withdraw your question!" Arthur's face suddenly turned cold again.
Ella teasingly stuck out her tongue. If he didn't want to answer, it was fine. No need to put on such an icy face.
She then started to run around the castle. The floors were covered with finely crafted green carpets. Ella ran and ran along the carpet, with crystals of sweat beading on her face. It seemed as if she hadn't yet reached the end of the castle.
Oh, what a huge, huge castle.
You've got to catch your breath, Ella thought as she roamed along the long hallway lined with oil paintings. Opening a window, a refreshing breeze blew in. The vast forest met the eye, while the distant sound of the ocean waves echoed in the ears.
The forest, the sea! Her little heart was suddenly filled with excitement.
She tidied up the messy bangs on her forehead and wiped the sweat off her temples. She reached out of the window, picked a leaf from the ancient tree, and instinctively blew out a tune.
The melody was rich and continuous, as if played by a musical instrument, lingering in the spacious ancient castle.
It was this melody that attracted Arthur.
His tall figure reflected in Ella's eyes against the light. Dust particles in the castle floated in the light and shadow, creating a beautiful scene.
She was momentarily stupefied, in full admiration.
The leaf in her mouth fell to the ground...
"Do you want to know about your ancestry?" Arthur bent down to pick up the leaf. It was a common leaf from the forest. Was this young lady really different from the rest?
"Yes, yes, I really do!" Ella nodded vigorously.
She had always dreamt of knowing why her cruel father and mother abandoned her when she was little. Did they know how desolate and lonely the world of an orphan was…
"Come with me."
Ella Lacey followed behind Arthur Lindsey's tall silhouette, step by step. They passed countless rooms, countless corridors, a huge indoor swimming pool, and finally reached the top floor.
Pushing the door open.
The whole room was enveloped in darkness, so much so you couldn't see your hand in front of you, creating an eerie atmosphere. Ella Lacey felt anxious and instantly grabbed Arthur Lindsey's sturdy arm, "Big brother, it's so dark..."
Arthur instinctively wanted to shake her off, but 'big brother'... hadn't it been a while since she used to call him that openly? In the end, he let her cling tightly to him.
In that moment, a dazzling light scattered out, like a rainbow, cascading wildly, illuminating every corner of the room.
It was an ancient mirror with purple veining.
The ancient mirror erected itself from the old wooden box, projecting a mesmerizing rainbow light that filled the room.
"That mirror is so special, such beautiful rainbow colors..." Ella Lacey couldn't help but exclaim.
"Stand in front of the ancient mirror, and it will reflect the mystery of your identity." Arthur Lindsey stood tall and solemn.
"Can it really do that? Such an amazing mirror!" Ella Lacey was dumbfounded. Isn't this a scene that only happens in movies? Arthur is truly incredible; he owns all kinds of treasures.
I can soon find out who my neglectful parents are! Thinking about it is quite exciting!
Ella Lacey was overjoyed, the very next second she wanted to stride towards the ancient mirror, but—
She suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Wait, other than my heritage, wouldn't the mirror also expose my ring space?
That's my secret weapon!
With that thought, Ella Lacey wanted to back out. She promptly and confidently said, "Arthur, I don't want to recollect the past, it's too cruel. Now, I have loving parents and a...cool guy like you. I am very happy."
A slight wrinkle appeared on Arthur Lindsey's attractive brow, "You're sure you don't want to take the test?"
"Yes!" Ella Lacey wrapped her arms around his, looking as sweet as a bird, her smile was wide, she was indeed very happy.
Only God knows how many years and how much effort Arthur spent searching around the world to acquire this ancient mirror, he even set a record for the highest price paid for it! Yet, this young girl seemed to be completely unappreciative?
"You can go back to sleep." Arthur's expression suddenly turned cold, his voice was indifferent—void of any warmth, "The castle's first floor, the first room on the left in the hallway."
"Arthur, aren't you coming with me?" Ella Lacey suddenly felt disappointed, her heart felt like it had been scraped cold, he changes his face faster than flipping a book.
"One room, two beds!"
"Arthur is actually quite loving."
Ella Lacey conveniently ignored his hard, stone-cold tone, she felt satisfied, yawned, and cheerfully said, "Let's go to sleep, we have to get up early for school tomorrow. Just thinking about it, makes me feel exhausted."
"First, take your arm off me!"
Raging frightfully!
Ella Lacey, feeling scared and embarrassed, ran off huffily, "What's with the temper, stinky Lindsey, stingy..."
