Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Sam and Gail listened intently as Yuna explained Kendrick's threats regarding her mother's medical condition. Their expressions shifted from concern to anger as they learned the gravity of the situation.

"Mana deficiency?" Sam repeated, his brow furrowed with worry. "That sounds serious. How long has your mother been suffering from this?"

Yuna's gaze dropped to her hands, which trembled slightly. "For years now. The treatments are incredibly expensive, and my salary barely covers the costs. I've been barely scraping by, trying to save up as much as I can."

Gail's lips tightened into a thin line. "And Kendrick is threatening to cut off her treatment if you don't comply with his demands?" She shook her head in disgust. "That's despicable."

Sam clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white. "We have to do something. We can't let him get away with this."

Yuna looked up, her eyes pleading. "I don't know what to do. If I refuse Kendrick, he'll stop my mother's treatment, and she'll..." Her voice trailed off, the unspoken implication hanging heavily in the air.

Gail reached across the desk, placing a comforting hand on Yuna's arm. "We're going to figure this out, Yuna. You're not alone in this."

Sam nodded in agreement. "Gail's right. Kendrick can't just threaten people like this. There has to be a way to stop him and get your mother the care she needs."

Yuna's expression wavered between hope and despair. "But how? Kendrick's family owns the hospital my mother is in. It is the only hospital that I could afford. He holds all the power here."

Gail's brow furrowed in thought. "Let me make a few calls. Maybe there's a way we can get your mother to transfer to another hospital." She paused, her gaze hardening. "In the meantime, we need to deal with Kendrick."

Sam leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "What do you have in mind?"

Gail's expression hardened as she listened to Yuna's plight. "I have a few connections with the leading families that are comparable to the Thornfield family," she said, her voice resolute. "Let me make some calls and see what I can do to get your mother transferred to another hospital."

Yuna's eyes widened, and she shook her head. "No, Gail, I don't want to complicate you and Sam with my problems. This is my burden to bear."

Gail raised a hand, silencing Yuna. "Absolutely not. I will not stand by and let Kendrick threaten one of my own." Her gaze shifted to Sam, who nodded in agreement.

"Gail's right," Sam said, his jaw set with determination. "Kendrick has gone too far, and it's time someone put him in his place."

Yuna looked between the two, her expression torn. "But I don't want to cause any trouble. Kendrick is powerful, and I'm worried about what he might do."

Gail reached across the desk and squeezed Yuna's hand. "That's exactly why we need to act. Kendrick has been allowed to get away with his behavior for far too long. It's time someone stood up to him."

Sam leaned forward, his eyes burning with purpose. "Gail's right. Kendrick needs to be held accountable for his actions. We're not going to let him continue to threaten and manipulate people like this."

Yuna's gaze darted between the two, her heart racing with a mix of fear and gratitude. "I... I don't know what to say. Thank you, both of you, for wanting to help."

Gail's expression softened, and she offered Yuna a reassuring smile. "You're part of our team, Yuna. We look out for each other, no matter what." She paused, her eyes narrowing. "And Kendrick is about to learn that the hard way."

Sam nodded, a determined glint in his eye. "So, what's the plan?"

Gail leaned back in her chair, her fingers steepling in front of her. "Well, first, I'm going to make some calls to see if we can get your mother transferred to a different hospital. I have a few contacts who owe me some favors."

Yuna opened her mouth to protest, but Gail raised a hand. "No arguments. This is happening, whether you like it or not."

Gail nodded firmly. "In the meantime, Yuna, I think it's best if you stay away from Kendrick. I don't want him to try anything else while we work on getting your mother the care she needs."

Yuna's brow furrowed with concern. "But what about our project? We were making such good progress."

Sam placed a reassuring hand on Yuna's shoulder. "Don't worry, we can pick it back up later. Right now, your safety and your mother's wellbeing are the top priority."

Gail agreed. "That's why I'm going to request that both of you take a leave from work for the time being. I need to know you're both safe and able to focus on this situation."

Yuna opened her mouth to protest, but Gail raised a hand. "No arguments. Your health and your family come first. The project can wait."

Sam nodded in understanding. "Gail's right. We'll put the Monster Hunter simulation on hold until this is resolved. Your well-being is more important."

Yuna's shoulders slumped slightly, but she knew her friends were right. "Okay, I understand. Thank you both, for everything you're doing."

Gail offered her a reassuring smile. "We've got your back, Yuna. Now, let me make those calls and see what I can do about getting your mother transferred to a different hospital."

As Gail stepped out of the office, Sam turned to Yuna, his expression filled with concern. "Are you going to be alright? I know this is a lot to deal with."

Yuna took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. "I... I'm not sure. But having you and Gail in my corner means more than you know."

Sam gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. "We're here for you, Yuna. Whatever you need, just say the word."

Yuna managed a small smile, feeling a surge of gratitude for her friends. "Thank you, Sam. I don't know what I'd do without you both."

As they prepared to leave the office, Sam couldn't help but feel a twinge of worry for the challenges that lay ahead. But he was determined to support Yuna and ensure her safety, no matter what.
