Beyond the Codex of Gods

Chapter 7: Wade Frostwalker

Unknown time later.

Light entered Wade's eyes, as a fuzzy feeling still fogged his brain. However, it took only a moment for him to shoot out of the bed and for his hand to reach out for the nearest living being.

"Ahhhh!" a woman's scream could be heard, but Wade's cold, bloodshot eyes were filled with sadism as he squeezed the woman's neck and effortlessly lifted her up in the air.

The woman kept thrashing her legs in the air as her face visibly turned blue and then purple, but Wade didn't let go as his eyes locked on the scene of her suffering.

He wanted to see a little bit more. How her mouth would ultimately foam up, indicating her end, but a stern shout knocked him out of that state, as he turned around to see a man in a white coat with women who looked like nurses following him.

Sensing uncertainty, he let the woman go, but immediately went to embrace her from behind as his hand reached out to the syringe lying on the tray beside his bed.

Without hesitation, he faced the newcomers with a sharp needle and a syringe with unknown contents slightly hovering above the woman's major arteries.

Wade's savage eyes didn't leave the newcomers, as he scanned them, analyzing the best way to take them all down.

"One more step and she dies." Wade threw in a warning. Although, it didn't matter even if the syringe didn't do much harm, he could always snap this woman's frail neck.

"Please calm down." the man in the white coat extended his hand out, as if showing he had no plans to harm him. Moreover, he made sure that nobody moved.

After seeing that everybody followed his instructions, Wade's mind was flooded with the hellish pain he felt at the hands of his only kin.

Enraged, he kicked the back of the woman's knee, making her fall on her knees with a thud as she screamed out in pain and tears started to flood out.

Her shivering seemed to be the only thing that satisfied Wade, as he finally felt in control for the first time in his life.

"Where am I?" he then coldly looked into the eyes of the man.

The man was unfaltering as he spoke.

"Your lordship is a sole survivor of a recent massacre carried out against your family, House of Frostwalker."

"You have been found alive by the rescue troops sent by the city lord of Antler City. Right now, you are in a hospital being treated for your injuries.

Hearing the man's words, Wade's eyes narrowed down.

"What is the year?"

"5025 of Ava's Calendar." the man found the question a bit strange.

Wade's heart sank into the bottomless abyss as he started shivering. He immediately turned toward the mirror that was placed in the corner, only to see the same appearance on the day of his torture.

His height, constitution and muscle mass were the same. Heck! Even his buzz cut black hair hadn't grown at all!

His heart started to beat wildly as panic overtook him.

'How? How?! HOW?!" he began to scream in his mind as his turbulent emotions didn't extend to the rest of his face.

His head snapped back, glaring straight at the man, as his desire to kill leaked out, making the man shiver.

"Are.You.Lying?" Wade spoke each word out, as his killing intent kept soaring and the woman below him felt extreme danger.

"N-No, this is the truth. You can even check in with the Magic Association and ask their astrologists!" the man spoke hastily.

Wade didn't believe it, as his heart was in turmoil.

"What is the matter?" a stern, aged voice shook the room, as everyone felt crisis by the heavy pressure that enveloped their beings.

"Professor Marcus." the group bowed toward the man who walked in the room with leisurely steps, unconcerned with the tension and a life at stake.

Marcus ignored the group as he turned to look at Wade, who was holding a woman hostage.

"Looks like you have amnesia." Marcus calmly spoke.

He didn't bother to approach Wade. Instead, he calmly kept watching.

Wade's heart raced wildly, with all kinds of thoughts going through his mind.

'Kill everyone? Sabotage the hospital? Escape through the window?'

However, nobody moved for a whole two hours and the stale atmosphere remained.

Eventually, Wade was the one to speak up.

"May I know who you are, sir?" Wade spoke calmly, but also adding a tinge of uncertainty into his voice. He decided to fully play into the role of a survivor with amnesia.

The man nodded, as he began to speak.

"I am Professor Marcus of Alkwood Ranker Academy. I was sent here by the Headmaster, to aid the remnants of the family. Alas, you are the only survivor." Marcus sighed with a regretful tone.

"However, We will still help you out."

"If you don't remember, you are eleven years old right now, which is a qualifying age to take the test for the right to enroll."

"As long as you manage to pass, all the expenses will be paid for you. However, if you fail or just choose not to attend. Then we will send out a few people to help you manage the territory left behind by your family."

"All options are in your favor."

Wade fell into deep thought. He remembered as clear as the day the words his Uncle had spoken to him and they perfectly matched with Marcus's words. Could they be working for his Uncle?

'No, it can't be since this is a pretty common way out. Uncle merely predicted the options they would give me, but to think he would plan out the death of a newborn ten years ahead…'

"Sir…" Wade put up a pained expression as two streams of tears flowed down his cheeks as his body trembled.

"...I remember the massacre, the way those heartless people killed others…but no matter what, I can't even seem to remember the faces of my dead loved ones, nor anything before that…what kind of a person I am?!" Wade seemed to break down, as he dropped the syringe and fell on his knees, trying to hide his face filled with tears.

The hostage woman quickly stood up and ran toward the group, finally relieved to be free, but when she looked back toward the weeping child, she felt pity in her heart, as anyone forced to go through such experiences wouldn't be the same. She even faintly started to forgive him for what he did.

"You are Wade…Wade Frostwalker." Marcus said, as he walked toward him and placed his hands on his Wade's shoulder, helping Wade stand up.

"Remember that there are still people left in this world who care about you. You are not alone." Marcus spoke comforting words, as he rubbed Wade on the back.

"Sir…I want to regain my memories…I want to avenge the blood for those unfamiliar faces that were close to me…I want to be stronger." Wade said as he looked straight into Marcus's eyes.

Marcus was moved, as not many kids had the courage to stand tall again after seeing the human lives being taken so easily, but Wade did, which he respected.

"Let's make you strong, Wade."
