Birth of the shadow: Uchiha sasuke x COTE fanfic

Chapter 2: A straight new world

Sasuke's eyes snapped open, his senses immediately alert. For a moment, he expected to see the unfamiliar sterile room he had woken up in earlier. But this was different. The soft hum of an engine reverberated around him, and the subtle vibrations of motion beneath his seat told him he was on a vehicle.

As his sharp eyes adjusted to his new surroundings, Sasuke noticed rows of seats stretching in front of him, filled with other students wearing the same uniform he now had on. A bus. The large windows on either side showed a pristine campus on the horizon, their destination.

He instinctively scanned the people around him. Two students caught his attention immediately. The boy next to him sat calmly, staring out the window with an almost detached look in his eyes. His brown hair and composed posture gave him an air of indifference. This wasn't just any student—there was something different about him, something Sasuke couldn't quite place. Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, his mind supplied, recalling the introduction from the earlier briefing.

On his other side was a girl sitting with a stiff, focused expression, her dark hair framing her face as she stared straight ahead. Her gaze was intense, but she didn't appear to acknowledge either him or the boy. Horikita Suzune, he remembered, the one noted for her ambition and sharp intellect.

Sasuke frowned, unsure of how to proceed. His instinct was to remain silent, to observe and gather more information. But in this world, he would have to navigate through human interaction just as much as any battlefield. For now, he would play along.

As the bus continued its journey, an unfamiliar voice broke the silence.

"Excuse me," said Hirata Yosuke, a boy sitting a few seats ahead, standing up with a polite smile. "We're all going to be classmates soon, so I think it would be great if we could introduce ourselves and get to know each other."

His cheerful tone seemed to resonate with most of the other students, who looked at him with interest or curiosity. Sasuke, however, remained silent, watching how the others responded.

"I'll go first," Hirata continued. "I'm Hirata Yosuke from Class D. I hope we can all get along."

Horikita, sitting next to Sasuke, shifted slightly in her seat but said nothing. It was clear she wasn't interested in small talk. Ayanokoji, as expected, remained quiet as well, his expression unreadable.

Sasuke debated whether to say something. He had no interest in socializing, but it would be useful to understand more about the students he was surrounded by.

"Would anyone else like to introduce themselves?" Hirata asked, scanning the bus with his encouraging smile.

Before anyone could respond, Sasuke spoke up, his tone cool and commanding. "Uchiha Sasuke."

The name hung in the air for a moment, the weight of his presence drawing several eyes toward him. Hirata smiled, though it seemed slightly more hesitant. "It's nice to meet you, Sasuke. I hope we can work together in Class D."

Sasuke gave a brief nod but didn't reply. He had said all he needed to. A few students murmured to themselves, but the introductions quickly moved on.

Horikita glanced at Sasuke from the corner of her eye. She seemed to evaluate him for a moment before turning back to the front, uninterested in any further engagement.

The bus ride continued in relative quiet. Sasuke leaned back in his seat, piecing together everything he had learned so far. These students, this school—it was a different battlefield than the one he was used to. But the principles were the same. Only the strong would thrive, and he had no intention of staying at the bottom.

Just as Sasuke settled into his thoughts, Ayanokoji finally spoke, his voice calm and almost emotionless.

"You don't seem like someone who's comfortable in a place like this," Ayanokoji said, his eyes still gazing out the window.

Sasuke turned slightly, studying the boy beside him. There was something about Ayanokoji—something dangerous, though he concealed it well.

"I'm not," Sasuke replied flatly. "But that doesn't matter."

Ayanokoji gave a small nod, as if he expected that answer. "This school... it's not what it appears to be. Don't underestimate it."

Sasuke's eyes narrowed. "I don't underestimate anything."

Ayanokoji's expression didn't change, but there was a subtle flicker of interest in his gaze. "Good," was all he said before turning back to the window.

Sasuke remained silent. He could tell that Ayanokoji wasn't an ordinary student, but neither was he. Whatever games were being played in this school, Sasuke would find his way to the top. And if Ayanokoji or anyone else stood in his way, he would deal with them, just as he always had.

As the bus neared the entrance of Advanced Nurturing High School, Sasuke stared out at the large gates that would mark the beginning of his new life. This world might have different rules, but in the end, the result would be the same: strength would decide everything.

And Sasuke Uchiha would rise to the top once again.
