Bleach: I Have No Talent

Chapter 20: 19: The Fruits Of Labor

After the fight with Aizen, the rest of the day went by quickly, without anything special happening. When the final class ended, Aizen and Haruto headed to the dining hall to eat. Shiro was just about to follow them when the familiar system notification screen appeared in front of his face.

As Shiro read the notifications, he felt his muscles ache just from the thought of completing the tasks. Letting out a big sigh, he turned to Aizen and Haruto.

"You guys go ahead without me," he said.

They gave him a puzzled look but didn't press him. Shiro walked out of the Shin'ō Academy building and made his way to the training grounds. Picking up his asauchi, he gripped it tightly and began swinging.

"1... 2... 3... 4... 5…" he counted under his breath, his rhythm steady at first.

15 Minutes Later

By the time he reached 130 swings, his hands and wrists were aching. The skin on his palms started to peel from the friction, and his muscles, still sore from the fight with Aizen, protested with every movement.

"131... 132... 133... 140…" he muttered, his breath becoming heavier with each swing.

Though he'd done similar training in the Rukongai, it was far from a daily routine back then. His muscles were burning, but he refused to stop.

After 160 Swings

Sweat began dripping down his face, his clothes clinging to his body as he pushed through the discomfort.

1 Hour Later

Shiro was breathing heavily now. His fingers gripped the handle of his asauchi firmly, despite the sharp pain in his hands. Sweat poured off his body, soaking his uniform. Every swing felt heavier, his arms screaming in protest, but he refused to stop.

"996… 997…"

His grip began to falter, his fingers trembling as they threatened to release the blade.

"Not yet!" Shiro growled through gritted teeth.

He forced his fingers to tighten around the hilt, ignoring the pain as he pushed through the final swings.

"998… 999… 1,000!"

With the last swing, he let the asauchi fall to the ground, collapsing to his knees. His chest heaved as he struggled to catch his breath, every muscle in his arms and shoulders trembling from exhaustion.

"Just… three more tasks…" Shiro muttered to himself, wiping the sweat from his brow as he forced himself to stand.

The night was far from over.

Shiro stood in the training grounds, his body already aching from the 1000 asauchi swings he had just finished. Sweat dripped from his forehead, his hands raw and trembling from gripping the blade for so long. Just as he tried to catch his breath, the system's tasks loomed in his mind like an unrelenting shadow.

"10 kilometers... alright," he muttered to himself, his voice weak. He wiped the sweat from his brow and began to jog, his legs screaming in protest with every step.

1 Kilometer In

The first kilometer wasn't terrible. Shiro's body protested, but the adrenaline from his earlier swings was still carrying him forward. He tried to keep a steady pace, his breath even.

"This is manageable," he thought, though his aching legs already warned him otherwise.

3 Kilometers In

Shiro's breathing grew heavier, and the fatigue in his legs started to spread. His pace slowed, his feet dragging slightly against the dirt path. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to continue.

"You've been through worse," he muttered, his voice hoarse.

His sweat-soaked uniform clung to his skin, and the cool night air did little to soothe the heat radiating from his body.

5 Kilometers In

By the halfway point, Shiro's legs felt like they were on fire. Every step sent shocks of pain through his muscles. His breath came in gasps now, the sharp pain in his chest making it harder to keep a rhythm.

"Halfway," he whispered to himself, his voice strained.

The academy grounds blurred around him as his focus narrowed to the path ahead. The moonlight illuminated his way, but it offered no comfort.

7 Kilometers In

Shiro was drenched in sweat. His legs trembled with every step, and his vision was beginning to blur from exhaustion. He wanted to stop, to fall to the ground and let the pain take over, but he knew he couldn't.

"Just… keep… going…" he muttered, forcing one foot in front of the other.

The sound of his labored breathing filled the silence of the night. His heart pounded in his ears, and his arms swung limply at his sides, drained from the earlier swings.

9 Kilometers In

Shiro's body was on the verge of collapse. His legs felt like they would give out any second, and his lungs burned with every breath. Sweat dripped into his eyes, stinging them, but he couldn't even muster the energy to wipe it away.

"Almost there," he rasped, his voice barely audible.

His body begged him to stop, but his determination was stronger.

10 Kilometers Complete

Shiro stumbled to a stop, his knees buckling as he collapsed onto the ground. His hands dug into the dirt, and he gasped for air, his chest heaving violently.

"That… was hell," he muttered, his voice weak.

His legs felt completely useless, but he forced himself to stand, wobbling slightly as he made his way back to the training grounds.

Push-Ups

Dropping to the ground, Shiro stretched his arms, which still ached from the asauchi swings. His muscles screamed in protest, but he positioned himself for the next task.

"1… 2… 3…"

The first few push-ups were manageable, but by the time he reached 20, his arms trembled with the strain.

"30… 31… 32…"

The pain in his shoulders and triceps was unbearable. He gritted his teeth, forcing himself to keep going.

"50…"

At the halfway mark, his arms nearly gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground. Sweat dripped onto the dirt as he pushed himself back up.

"Not done yet," he growled, restarting.

90… 91… 92…

Every push-up felt like lifting a mountain. His arms were numb, and his breaths came in shallow gasps.

"98… 99… 100…"

He collapsed onto the ground, unable to move for a moment. His body was screaming at him to stop, but he still had one task left.

Sit-Ups

With great effort, Shiro forced himself into a sitting position. His core muscles were already sore, but he laid back down and started the next task.

"1… 2… 3…"

Each sit-up sent waves of pain through his body. His sweat-soaked back stuck to the ground, making every movement harder.

"50…"

By the halfway point, his stomach muscles felt like they were tearing. He groaned in pain but refused to stop.

90… 91… 92…

Shiro's entire body was trembling. He was on the verge of collapsing, but the thought of failing the task pushed him forward.

"98… 99… 100!"

He let himself fall back onto the ground, staring up at the night sky. His chest heaved, and his body felt like it weighed a ton.

Shiro collapsed onto the ground, staring up at the clear sky. The sun was still high, casting a warm glow over the academy grounds. He groaned, feeling every ache in his body from the relentless training.

"At least… no penalties," he muttered, a faint smirk on his face despite the pain.

The sound of other students training in the distance drifted through the air, but Shiro couldn't bring himself to move.

Shiro lay on the ground for a moment, catching his breath. Slowly, he crawled toward a nearby tree and leaned his back against it, gazing up at the sky. The warm sun shone down on him, offering some comfort as he tried to regain his strength.

After a few moments, he felt a bit better. He looked toward the Shin'ō Academy, his thoughts briefly drifting, when he suddenly heard something moving swiftly. Turning to his right, Shiro spotted a black cat darting toward the academy.

A strange sense of familiarity washed over him as he watched the cat. He couldn't quite place it, but something about the animal stirred a memory within him. Then, like a spark, a fragment of his lost memories surfaced.

The black cat transforming into a beautiful, naked woman.

Shiro's face instantly turned red as he shook his head, trying to push the thought away. "What the hell am I thinking?" he muttered under his breath, his eyes darting back to the running cat. Still blushing, his curiosity got the better of him.

Without thinking, Shiro used Shunpo, trying to catch up to the cat. After all, it was just curiosity, right? Right?

As he closed the distance, Shiro called out playfully, "Come here, kitty! I'll give you a mouse!"

The cat ignored him entirely, darting through the training grounds. Shiro's legs burned with each step, his muscles still sore from his earlier exertions, but he refused to stop.

"Gotcha!" Shiro muttered as he executed two rapid Shunpo steps in succession, appearing right in front of the cat. His legs screamed in protest, but the thrill of curiosity kept him going.

He crouched slightly, grinning as he extended a hand toward the cat. "Come here, kitty..." he said, his tone soft but tinged with determination. His thoughts flickered again. Are there even cats in the Soul Society?

The cat stared at him for a moment, its golden eyes gleaming with intelligence, before taking off again at a speed Shiro couldn't match, leaving him stunned - and even more intrigued.

Shiro watched as the black cat bolted into the distance, covering a full kilometer in mere seconds. Realizing it was pointless to continue chasing it, he sighed and made his way back to the training grounds.

He remembered he still had one more quest to complete:

Quest: Learn Hadō #8: Moeru Danmaku in 2 days.

Reward: 0.50% progress

Penalty: None

Determined, Shiro focused on mastering the technique.

Hadō #8: Moeru Danmaku was a mid-level Hadō spell that involved creating multiple fiery orbs of concentrated Reiatsu, which could be fired rapidly at a target in succession, mimicking a barrage. The technique required precise Reiatsu control and swift execution to maintain the barrage's accuracy and power.

Shiro began practicing, conjuring the fiery orbs and attempting to fire them in quick bursts. At first, the technique was clumsy. The orbs fizzled out before reaching their target, or they veered off course entirely. Frustrated but determined, Shiro kept at it, adjusting his Reiatsu flow with each attempt.

After several tries, he managed to get the technique working somewhat consistently, but it still felt incomplete. Something was missing.

He took a deep breath, focusing his mind and gathering his Reiatsu. This time, he poured more energy into the technique, pushing himself to his limit. The fiery orbs grew brighter and faster, their power now undeniable.

A sudden notification appeared before him:

Quest Completed!

Reward: 0.50% progress

Template Progress: 10.11%

As the notification faded, Shiro felt a sharp, throbbing pain in his eyes. Clutching at them, he gasped as his vision shifted. Everything around him seemed to slow down, each movement and detail becoming unnervingly clear.

Realization dawned on him—he had unlocked the two-tomoe Sharingan.

Another notification from the system appeared before his eyes:

10% Template Progress Reached!

You have unlocked the Two-Tomoe Sharingan!

Before he could process the significance of this development, another message popped up:

You have a chance to spin a B-Rank Ninjutsu Scroll.

Shiro blinked, his heart racing. Things were happening faster than he could comprehend, but he knew one thing for certain: his strength was growing, and with it, his challenges would only increase.

Shiro took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. The system notification hovered before him, practically daring him to take the opportunity. His hands still trembled from unlocking the two-tomoe Sharingan, the aftershock of both excitement and exhaustion.

"Well," he muttered to himself, "I've come this far. Let's see what I get."

He mentally selected the option to spin the B-Rank Ninjutsu Scroll. Immediately, a spinning wheel appeared before his eyes, divided into countless colorful segments. Each segment bore the name of a B-Rank jutsu, though the rapid spinning made it impossible to read any of them clearly.

The wheel spun faster, its vibrant colors blending into a mesmerizing blur. Shiro couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety as he waited. Would it be something useful? Something compatible with his growing abilities? Or something entirely useless to him?

Finally, the wheel slowed, the sections becoming readable once more. Shiro squinted, trying to make out the names as the spinner passed them.

Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet

Earth Release: Mud Wall

Water Release: Water Shark Bullet

Lightning Release: Lightning Clone

Wind Release: Gale Palm

The spinner slowed further, ticking between names. It hovered for a moment over Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet before creeping past it. Shiro held his breath as the pointer finally landed on a bright blue section.

Congratulations! You have unlocked: Water Release: Water Shark Bullet

Shiro blinked, momentarily stunned. He had unlocked a B-Rank Water Release technique, something he hadn't expected to gain, especially since he had no prior connection to water-based techniques.

A system notification appeared to explain the jutsu:

Water Release: Water Shark Bullet

Description: A powerful technique that condenses water into the shape of a shark and launches it at high speed toward the enemy. The water shark is fast, dense, and capable of striking with significant force.

Shiro let out a low whistle. "This could be useful," he said, already imagining ways to incorporate the technique into his arsenal.

However, a thought nagged at the back of his mind. "Wait… how am I supposed to use a water technique when there's barely any water around here?"

The system chimed in with an answer as if reading his thoughts:

Note: The user may create water from their Reiatsu for this technique, but it will consume more energy than using an existing water source.

"Figures," Shiro muttered, shaking his head. He leaned back against the tree, feeling the strain in his body from the intense training and the day's events. Still, despite the exhaustion, he couldn't help but smile.

He had unlocked his Sharingan's second tomoe, completed a challenging Hadō technique, and gained a powerful new jutsu. Progress was progress, no matter how difficult the journey.

Shiro walked back to the dorms, exhausted from the day's training. The academy was quiet, most students already asleep. When he entered the room, Haruto and Aizen were already in bed. Without bothering to shower or change, Shiro collapsed into his own bed, his body aching. He closed his eyes, letting the weight of the day fade away, and quickly fell into a deep sleep, ready to face whatever came next.
