Watching Xiao Yan's attempt to merge two flames on the battlefield, Mo Yu immediately understood what was happening.
As a future signature skill of the Flame Emperor, the initial terrifying power of Buddha's Fury Lotus was beginning to reveal itself. Though only a small-scale version created from the Green Lotus Core Flame and a special Beast Flame, even this miniature Buddha's Fury Lotus was enough to make onlookers pale in fear.
A thunderous explosion echoed across the large arena, shaking everyone to the core with a sound reminiscent of the wrath of a god. The sky above the battlefield erupted as though a volcano had burst forth, two terrifyingly powerful energies colliding and releasing a wave of chaos.
Immediately, a fierce gale swept across the sky above the arena. The point of collision between the energies caused the very air to ripple and distort. The wild energy waves surged forth, sweeping toward the arena and Nalan Yanran like a fiery storm.
"Crack!"
The energy shockwave first met the defensive shields put up by Yun Lan Sect disciples, but it seemed they underestimated the fierce impact of the collision. The weak barriers were torn apart instantly, and weaker disciples paled, spewing blood from the backlash.
"Reinforce the defensive shield!" Yun Leng's face darkened as he commanded sharply, seeing Yun Lan Sect disciples fall one by one under the pressure of the energy shockwave. In response, nearly a thousand disciples infused their Dou Qi into a massive shield, forming a defense that glowed with a kaleidoscope of colors.
Despite the reinforced defense, the once-sturdy arena trembled under the powerful shockwave, cracks snaking across the ground as it began to buckle under the intense pressure.
"Grand Elder, things seem to be getting out of hand. Xiao Yan is indeed powerful!" remarked one of the elders with a hesitant expression.
Yun Leng's brows knitted as he stroked his beard, his voice grim. "We'll wait and see, but we cannot let Yanran lose here. In front of so many powerful figures, Yun Lan Sect's reputation is at stake."
"What do you mean?" the surrounding elders asked, exchanging puzzled glances.
"Let's wait and see." Yun Leng waved them off and looked skyward, his face darkening.
Nearby, Mo Yu raised an eyebrow, sensing Yun Lan Sect's reluctance to accept defeat so easily.
As the spectators pondered, the battle in the arena took a swift turn.
In the sky, separated by blinding light, Nalan Yanran was struck by a wave of energy. She coughed up blood, her face paling.
Witnessing this, Yun Leng's eyes narrowed sharply; the outcome was evident—Nalan Yanran had lost.
"Xiao Yan, for Yun Lan Sect's sake, spare Yanran some face, and we will reward you handsomely," Yun Leng transmitted a message to Xiao Yan.
But a mocking laugh interrupted his message, cutting it off midway.
"Elder Yun Leng, this seems against the competition's rules," Mo Yu's cold smile challenged him.
Yun Leng was momentarily taken aback, his pride stung at being interrupted by a mere junior.
"Hmph! This is none of your concern!" Yun Leng snorted and tried once more to transmit his message, ignoring Mo Yu's interference.
Seeing this, Mo Yu merely sneered. He knew that Xiao Yan wouldn't be swayed.
And indeed, Xiao Yan only smiled slightly. Without a moment's hesitation, he released a torrent of energy from his palm, sending Nalan Yanran spiraling through the air with blood spraying like crimson roses.
Nalan Yanran had lost.
An eerie silence filled the arena. The young master of Yun Lan Sect—once considered the most promising disciple, and the direct disciple of the sect master herself—had been defeated by a young man from a lesser-known clan.
The spectators, whether they were ordinary disciples or prestigious figures like Fa Ma or Jia Xing Tian, were all stunned. That someone chosen by Yun Yun, the Sect Master of Yun Lan, could be defeated by an underdog like Xiao Yan defied all expectations.
Meanwhile, Nalan Jie's face darkened with regret. What had started as a promising engagement had ended in complete humiliation. His plan had utterly backfired.
"Damn brat!" Yun Leng slammed his fist into the stone platform beside him in fury. Xiao Yan hadn't heeded his suggestion at all, choosing instead to pursue victory without compromise.
"Grand Elder, what now? Yanran has been defeated," another elder asked, his tone heavy with disappointment.
Yun Leng's face shifted through a spectrum of emotions. Nalan Yanran's defeat represented a blow to Yun Lan Sect's prestige. As the acting leader, Yun Leng knew he had to find a way to salvage the situation.
Observing this, Mo Yu's face grew serious as he realized Yun Leng wouldn't simply accept defeat.
In the original timeline, Yun Leng used Xiao Yan's killing of Mo Cheng as an excuse to act. However, here, Mo Cheng's death had been at Mo Yu's hands, and Yun Yun, the Sect Master, had publicly severed all ties with Mo Clan long before.
With no such leverage left, what excuse could Yun Leng possibly use to interfere in the competition under so many watchful eyes?
In the arena, Xiao Yan smiled at Nalan Yanran, saying, "As I promised three years ago, today, I'll repeat my words."
"Nalan Yanran, from today forward, you and the Xiao Clan are done. You're free. Congratulations."
Turning to the crowd, he announced, "The show is over. Let's go our separate ways."
Addressing Mo Yu with a smile, Xiao Yan said, "Cousin Mo Yu, I've done it. I won."
Mo Yu nodded with a smile, sensing the weight of the past three years lift from Xiao Yan's shoulders.
They exchanged a look and, under the watchful eyes of all present, began to make their way out of the arena.
The sunlight poured down from the sky as they strode off together. Seeing their proud, slender figures, a sense of awe spread among the crowd. Perhaps the Xiao Clan would become legendary across the empire one day.
But just as Mo Yu's foot was about to touch the ground at the base of the steps, a cold, unwelcome voice rang out.
"Wait, you two—don't go just yet. Yun Lan Sect suspects there was a problem with this match."
Mo Yu froze, his foot hovering mid-air as he stopped short. Xiao Yan looked at him, puzzled.
Mo Yu shook his head and turned back, his face calm.
"As one of the co-hosts of this competition, I saw no issue. So, I'm curious, Elder Yun Leng—what exactly are you implying?"
A voice echoed from the audience, full of hostility—it was one of Yun Lan Sect's white-robed Elders, unwilling to let things go quietly.
"Hmph! That Xiao Yan is merely a Da Dou Shi. How could he unleash such a powerful Dou Technique? I suspect he cheated—someone must've prepared this move for him in advance. Otherwise, there's no way Yanran, our Young Sect Leader, would have lost. This is unfair!"
As soon as this accusation left the Elder's mouth, it stirred an uproar in the crowd.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Xiao Yan's every move had been scrutinized. If there were any signs of cheating, it would have been noticed. Yet no one had found any such indication, making it clear that Xiao Yan's supposed cheating was a flimsy excuse.
Yun Leng, who was standing nearby, turned visibly displeased. Even he felt that this accusation from Yun Lan Sect was beyond weak. Still, since the topic had been raised, Yun Leng, as the Grand Elder of the Yun Lan Sect, wasn't going to embarrass his fellow Elder in front of everyone. Additionally, Xiao Yan had just disregarded him, and Yun Leng had plenty of his own grievances.
In front of the crowd, Yun Leng slowly rose, his gaze dark and intense as he looked toward Xiao Yan and Mo Yu. In a deep voice, he declared, "Indeed, what Elder said is the stance of the Yun Lan Sect. We suspect Xiao Yan cheated. This duel was unfair!"
Yun Leng's words carried more weight than those of Elder Yun Lan Sect, and whispers quickly spread throughout the audience. After all, the Dou Technique Xiao Yan had displayed earlier was far beyond what a mere Da Dou Shi should be capable of unleashing.
With this new claim, the victory Xiao Yan achieved against Nalan Yanran now seemed like an unearned triumph.
As the Yun Lan Sect continued to muddy the waters, Xiao Yan's dark eyes flickered with anger, and he stepped forward to defend himself. However, a steady hand held him back.
"Mo Yu, cousin, you—"
Mo Yu gave a faint smile. "I told you, you only need to focus on victory. I'll handle the rest. Our Xiao Clan isn't one to be bullied."
Hearing Mo Yu's calm response, Xiao Yan's anger gradually dissipated, replaced by a slight smile. "Then, I'll leave it in your hands, cousin."
Xiao Yan had unshakable faith in Mo Yu.
Mo Yu smiled, patting Xiao Yan's shoulder reassuringly. Turning, he faced the Elder of Yun Lan Sect directly.
Honestly, Mo Yu wasn't surprised by the Yun Lan Sect's shameless tactics. After all, in the original story, Yun Leng had used the death of Mo Cheng as a pretext to detain Xiao Yan. Although Mo Cheng had indeed died by Xiao Yan's hand, it was actually the spirit of Yao Lao who had struck the blow. There was no way the youthful Xiao Yan alone could have defeated a Dou Ling-level fighter like Mo Cheng.
With this ridiculous accusation, it was clear that the Yun Lan Sect was willing to use any means necessary to protect their reputation.
"Elder, you say that a Da Dou Shi is incapable of unleashing such a powerful Dou Technique and that Xiao Yan must have cheated?" Mo Yu's silver eyes sparkled slightly as he looked at the Elder, instantly discerning his exact level: a Dou Ling, three stars. Mo Yu's lips curved into a faint smile.
Under Mo Yu's gaze, Elder Yun Lan involuntarily looked away, then forced himself to cough and replied with a strained tone, "Yes, exactly. That Dou Technique was powerful enough to damage our Yun Lan Sect's protective barrier. There's no way a mere Da Dou Shi could cause such destruction. I have every reason to suspect that the Xiao Clan prepared some underhanded move for this duel. The Yun Lan Sect refuses to accept this!"
As his words resounded, murmurs of suspicion filled the audience, and skeptical glances were cast toward Xiao Yan. If this were true, the Xiao Clan's actions would indeed be disgraceful.
Facing these doubtful gazes, Xiao Yan remained calm. Glancing at Mo Yu's composed expression, a hint of a smile formed on his lips.
He knew that his cousin would have a way to handle this.
"You're certain that a Da Dou Shi couldn't unleash such power?" Mo Yu asked, his tone calm as ever, turning his attention back to Yun Lan.
Hearing the question, Elder Yun Lan's brows furrowed. He hadn't actually seen any evidence of cheating from Xiao Yan, but given how things had progressed, he could only press forward, saying, "Yes, a Da Dou Shi—"
Before he could finish, he suddenly felt an overwhelming aura radiate from Mo Yu. It wasn't Dou Qi but a profound, unseen Soul Power.
This unseen force filled him with dread.
Before he could react, Mo Yu raised his hands and formed a mysterious hand seal. As the seal took shape, an immense surge of Soul Power rapidly gathered in his palms. In the air above, a faintly visible spiral imprint began to appear, radiating waves of tremendous pressure.
Seeing the spiral imprint, the crowd's expressions shifted—this terrifying aura was enough to make even them feel pressured.
More astonishingly, Mo Yu seemed poised to attack an Elder of the Yun Lan Sect, a three-star Dou Ling!
In the trees above, a sixth-grade alchemist, Gu He, observed the scene, his expression tense as he murmured, "This… this is a Dou Technique powered by Soul Power?"
With narrowed eyes, he cast a wary glance at Mo Yu.
Realizing Mo Yu's intentions, Yun Leng's expression changed drastically, and he quickly called out, "Be careful! That boy's up to something strange!"
But it was already too late. Mo Yu's immense Soul Power solidified in an instant, and a spiral soul imprint shot out like a bolt of lightning, aimed directly at Elder of Yun Lan Sect.
As Yun Leng's warning reached his ears, the elder reacted instinctively, unleashing waves of Dou Qi to defend himself. His bony hands whirled, sending out sharp gusts of wind to intercept the approaching soul imprint.
This swift and brutal response was typical of a fighter at the Dou Ling level.
But when he glanced back at Mo Yu, he caught the young man's icy smile. Seeing this, a sense of foreboding washed over him.
In the next instant, Mo Yu's silver eyes flared with an earth-shattering light.
"Extreme Thunder Lightning!"
With Mo Yu's low shout, brilliant lightning flickered in his silver eyes, and a bolt of terrifying power seemed to cross the space between them, piercing into elder mind and detonating in his consciousness.
With the thunder's impact, elder's body froze, his movements slowing until they stopped completely.
Seizing the opportunity, Mo Yu's spiral soul imprint pressed forward, pouring its vast Soul Power into elder's body.
Yun Lan Sect Elder's body was like a leaf in the autumn wind, crashing to the ground and scraping along the stone floor, leaving a long, deep trail across the polished tiles.
After sliding several meters, the elder finally broke free from the hold of the Extreme Thunder Lightning. But as he sensed the grievous injuries within his body, his pale face twisted in shock.
"You…" he managed to whisper before coughing up blood and fainting.
Silence.
A dead silence settled over the vast square. Everyone's expressions froze as they looked at Mo Yu, still calm and collected.
The Yun Lan Sect's Grand Elder, who had been so certain that no Da Dou Shi could wield such power, had fallen at the hands of this young man?
Were Twin Dragons of the Xiao Clan this terrifying?
