Chapter 45: The First Round
When the Four Demon Saints heard Hun Tian Di's words, they fell silent.
For a moment, they couldn't help but acknowledge that his statement made sense.
Although Hun Xiu was merely a two-star Dou Huang, who would dare measure him by the combat power of an ordinary Dou Huang?
That day, when the Dou Qi of heaven and earth surged towards him, it formed a tornado of astonishing magnitude. The sheer amount of energy he absorbed was something even ordinary Dou Zun experts could not achieve.
Although his rank was Dou Huang, how could anyone compare him to a mere Dou Huang?
---
On the martial arts stage, as Hun Xiu arrived, everyone's attention was instantly drawn to the legendary "young master."
The position of the young master was still vacant. Only after the competition for the young master ten years later would the true successor be decided. However, Hun Xiu's brilliance had already led many elders and members of the younger generation to subconsciously regard him as the "young master."
Even without the title, they believed: Who else but Hun Xiu could be the young master?
Hun Xiu remained calm, smiling faintly at the gazes directed his way. He nodded politely and stood off to the side, still aloof, unwilling to mingle with others.
Standing alone, he seemed out of place, but no one dared to comment.
---
When Hun Xiu arrived, Hun Dun announced the final name.
"Hun Feng!"
A streak of red light rose from the crowd as Hun Feng unfurled his crimson wings and gracefully landed on the martial arts stage. He glanced at Hun Xiu before shifting his gaze away.
Hun Dun gestured, summoning a hundred spheres of black light that floated above the stage.
"Inside each sphere is a number, ranging from 1 to 100. Each of you will receive one. Take them!"
"Understood!"
The contestants reached out, one by one, and claimed a light sphere. When all but one were taken, Hun Xiu leisurely stretched his hand toward the remaining sphere.
"One hundred."
He looked at the number, momentarily stunned.
"I didn't expect to be the last. Is this fate?"
Catching the number 100 meant he would be the final participant in the first match.
---
Hun Dun formed hand seals, causing the martial arts stage to tremble before it slowly rose into the air, floating above the ground.
Once the stage was set, Hun Dun announced, "Number one and number one hundred, step forward!"
Hun Xiu didn't move immediately. He wanted to see who his opponent would be. Was it their misfortune or his luck to face him in the first round?
Hun Dou Luo, a young woman with twin ponytails, stepped forward and respectfully greeted Hun Dun, "Elder."
Exclamations rippled through the crowd.
"Number one is Hun Dou Luo? Who's number one hundred?"
The crowd began scanning the participants, curious to see who the opponent was.
When no one moved, Hun Xiu finally stepped forward, his wooden sword in hand. He approached Hun Dun and greeted him respectfully, "Elder."
The crowd erupted.
"Seriously?! It's Hun Xiu?"
"Originally, I pitied Hun Dou Luo's opponent, but now I realize I should be pitying her!"
Hun Dou Luo, who had initially been confident, was stunned. She never expected to face Hun Xiu in the first round.
Did she stand a chance of winning?
No. Not at all.
Hun Xiu was equally surprised to find that his opponent was a girl with twin ponytails.
Do I really have to fight a girl?
The thought embarrassed him. Fighting a woman, especially in public, felt improper.
Hun Dun glanced at both participants and said, "Let the match begin. You know the rules."
He stepped back, signaling everyone else to do the same.
Hun Xiu and Hun Dou Luo stared at each other in silence, an awkward tension hanging in the air.
For Hun Xiu, the awkwardness stemmed from the thought of fighting a woman. Hun Dou Luo, however, was simply resigned to her fate.
Finally, she broke the silence and introduced herself. "My name is Hun Dou Luo."
Hun Xiu nodded slightly, holding his wooden sword, and replied, "Hun Xiu."
"I don't fight women. Just admit defeat."
His voice was calm but carried through the air, drawing frowns from the female warriors present.
Hun Dou Luo's expression darkened. "Are you looking down on me?"
"No," Hun Xiu replied. "I'm just stating the truth. You can't win against me. It would be better for both of us if you surrendered. Why make this difficult?"
Hun Dou Luo snorted. "You're still looking down on me!"
Her dou qi erupted, forming a tornado around her. Her energy whipped through the air, causing Hun Xiu's white robes and hair to flutter, yet he remained unmoving, calm as a mountain.
With a sigh, Hun Xiu said, "Why insist on this? You know you can't win."
Hun Dou Luo's fighting spirit flared. "I won't back down! I'll give you the first move!"
Hun Xiu remained still, his calm demeanor unwavering. "Very well. Let's get this over with."
