Chapter 61: Winning and Giving An Artifact
The horrific aftermath swept across the area, turning everything it touched into wreckage and ruins. Wherever it passed, destruction followed.
This aftermath carried no suppressive power; it was like the uncontrollable flood of the Yellow River, sweeping everything away.
The crowd of onlookers had long disappeared. The catastrophic force surged toward the platform where Hun Tiandi and the others were gathered.
As Hun Dun, Hun Feng, and the other two arrived, the aftermath reached them.
Suddenly, Hun Tiandi stood up and waved his hand gently. In an instant, the violent aftermath, which had resembled a prehistoric beast, vanished without a trace.
Peace returned to the world. There was no martial arts arena in the void anymore. All that remained was an empty void with the children relying on their fighting wings to stand.
With just a wave of his hand, Hun Tiandi had accomplished what even Hun Hun couldn't achieve—without using any visible fluctuation of his fighting spirit.
His effortless method was shocking to behold.
At this moment, Hun Tiandi wore a faint smile. He looked at Hun Xiu, who was standing in the void, and said calmly, "Xiu'er, you win."
Hun Tiandi's voice wasn't loud, yet it rang clearly, resounding like thunder in everyone's ears.
When Hun Feng and the other two heard Hun Tiandi's announcement, their already pale faces turned even paler.
They knew they had lost.
Completely defeated.
Even the combined strength of the three of them could not contend with Hun Xiu, a mere two-star Dou Huang.
As Dou Huang warriors, they were all technically stronger than Hun Xiu, yet the strength he displayed surpassed his own realm.
They couldn't help but wonder, "Is he truly just a two-star Dou Huang?"
---
"I won," Hun Xiu muttered softly.
"Brother Hun Xiu won!"
When Gu Xun'er heard Hun Tiandi's announcement, she clapped her hands with excitement, her face full of joy.
"Um..."
Gu Yuan, standing beside her, couldn't help but rub her head as mixed emotions filled his heart.
Hun Xiu approached Hun Tiandi and bowed respectfully. "Thank you, Father."
Hun Tiandi nodded in satisfaction, looking at Hun Xiu with approval. "You have done well, Xiu'er. You did not disappoint me. You are worthy of being my son."
Then, he turned his gaze toward Hun Feng and the other two. Feeling his eyes on them, the three quickly lowered their heads in shame.
"You three," Hun Tiandi said calmly, "rest for an hour. Afterward, we will proceed with the selection of the second place."
"Yes," the three responded in unison.
---
Having secured first place, Hun Xiu left the scene with Gu Xun'er, uninterested in the subsequent battles.
After all, unless something unexpected happened, second place would undoubtedly go to Hun Feng.
In the back mountains, Hun Xiu sat atop a peak, holding Gu Xun'er in his arms.
Pinching her little cheeks playfully, he teased, "Xun'er, are you leaving tomorrow?"
"Mm-hmm." Gu Xun'er nodded, feeling aggrieved. "Xun'er doesn't want to leave Brother Hun Xiu."
"I don't want you to leave either," Hun Xiu admitted as he continued pinching her chubby little face.
Gu Xun'er let out a soft "Oh," wondering whether he was truly reluctant to part with her—or just her cheeks.
After a while, Hun Xiu finally stopped kneading her face and sighed. "Xun'er, when you go back, you'll face many challenges. Can you promise me one thing?"
Gu Xun'er tilted her head. "What is it, Brother Hun Xiu?"
"Promise me you'll protect yourself."
With that, Hun Xiu retrieved a 20-centimeter-long artifact—a pair of scissors—from his ring. Handing it to her, he said, "If anyone bullies you in the future, use this to deal with them."
Gu Xun'er carefully accepted the artifact and placed it into the storage ring around her neck. "I promise, Brother Hun Xiu."
She then looked at him seriously. "But Brother Hun Xiu must also promise Xun'er to take care of himself."
Hun Xiu was touched. "I promise."
He couldn't help but wonder, "Will this little girl still care for me so much when she grows up? If she does, perhaps giving up other women for her wouldn't be a bad idea."
---
As the sun set, Hun Xiu escorted Gu Xun'er back to the courtyard where Gu Yuan and the others were staying.
"Father-in-law," Hun Xiu greeted Gu Yuan respectfully as he handed Gu Xun'er over.
Gu Yuan smiled. "I was very impressed with your performance today. You've proven yourself to be exceptional, Hun Xiu."
Hun Xiu nodded slightly, his expression calm. He had only acted for his own sake—to establish himself in this dangerous, power-driven world.
Looking at Gu Xun'er, he smiled. "Goodbye, Xun'er."
"Goodbye, Brother Hun Xiu."
Gu Yuan, watching the interaction, smiled knowingly. As Hun Xiu departed, he murmured to himself, "He truly is an extraordinary young man."
