Building An Army In Another World With My Smartphone

Chapter 23

We sent a unit to deliver a message to Christina, who knew how to write English. I was curious to know how she knew a language from Earth.

If she was like me, this meant I wasn't the only person from Earth in this world and that there was a possibility that there were others. The message only had a location and time for us to meet. Of course, I wasn't going to meet face to face. I had a small tablet that we would use to do a video call.

Two units were dispatched to the location, where a carriage was already there.

A group of five armoured knights guided the units onto the carriage, and inside was Christina, who was barely awake.

"There you guys are; why does the meeting have to be now. If only I had some coffee," she complained.

A unit on my command hands over the tablet to Christina, who looks at it with glistening eyes.

"Oh my word, a tablet, I haven't seen one in a very long time!" she exclaims excitedly.

"Hello there," I greeted.

"Oh, hello. So I guess you're this mysterious leader?"

"Yes, I am. So why did you want to meet?"

"Well, I guess you know that I am from Earth as well."

"Indeed, it was quite a surprise."

"Haha, anyways. I want to know why there are modern weapons in this world. You look too young to have access to weapons. So how did you do it?"

"It's a power that I was granted when I came to this world. Did you not get the same thing?"

"No, I was reincarnated into this world when I died back on Earth. Growing up without technology is quite hard in this world."

"Ah, I assumed reincarnation was the case. Mind I ask who you were in your past life?"

"Of course! I grew up in America and got educated in business. I started my first online business when I was twenty-three, which made me a millionaire by the time I was thirty-five. When I was forty, my plane crashed, and I died. Then the next thing I knew, I was a newborn baby."

"That certainly is a tale."

"Well, how about you?"

"Errm, remember when I said I got my power when I was transported into this world. I might have sacrificed my memories to get that power, so I don't even remember my name."

"Bro, seriously? Damm, why couldn't I get a choice of power? Now I'm stuck in the middle of a war."

"Ah, that reminds me; how did you get dragged into this war?"

"My father in this world owed a big favour to Otis's family. But when he died, the responsibility fell onto my hands. Somethings happened, and I had to supply the rebel army with money to repay that favour, "Christina was clearly not happy as she vented out. "All I wanted to do was live an easy life, maybe even get married and have children."

"Well, this war should end after you take the capital. My intelligence team suggest that Orklarth is on his final straw. The capital city is on full lockdown, with only a couple of thousand troops to defend."

"Woah, really, just how good are your men. Actually, who are these people?"

"They're not really people. Units deactivate disguise."

The units did as I said and deactivated their disguises, which I thought would have scared Christina. But her eyes were again glistening, even brighter.

"Well, as you can see, they are basically robots. To be honest, I have no idea how they work, but all I know is that they are intelligent and ferociously loyal to me."

"That is so cool!" she shouts.

"Yeah, I guess it is... So what else do you want to talk about?"

"Oh yeah, I want to join you."

"Why?"

"Have you not realised?" Christina's expression suddenly turns serious, "After the Rebels win, there's going to be another war."

"Another war?"

"Yes, between the other three. If you think about it, who would rule the Empire after we win? They each have their own ambitions, and even though they are allies, they will turn on each other. But that's if another country doesn't attack before that."

"And what about you?"

"I just want a peaceful life, and if I was to align myself with one of them, I would never get that. I have my own territory and people to take care of, so I hope someone like you would share the same opinion as me."

"Of course, we would be glad to have you after this war. But for now, I don't think you should let any of the others know of this meeting. In fact, my spies have actually just restrained someone who has been following you for quite a while now."

"Why am I not surprised," she says whilst rolling her eyes. Christina's last comment made me chuckle, and I couldn't agree more.

"Haha, fine. I'll send over a written contract soon. I'll also leave those two units with you. I do need to warn you that they are both armed." I wanted them to protect Christina but also watch over her just in case she wasn't being truthful.

"They already sound better than my own bodyguards."

"Haha, well. Have a good night."

"Oh, one more thing, can I keep this tablet?"

"Errr, there's literally nothing on that tablet, and the most you can do is a video call. We can maybe create something similar to the internet, but it will take time." The tablet was a quick and simple item that the workshop created. I had my own special high-end tablet.

However, I mainly used my phone, which had all the classified information stored on it. No one should be able to access it unless they knew my password and had my fingerprint.

This specific model was our worst performance model compared to the others and thus was named the Disposables. Its manufacturing cost was low, so it was used for this meeting.

"Yes, please. I want to be the first one to experience the internet again."

"Haha, of course."

Christina's suggestion of the internet gave me an idea, but it was an idea that would take a very long time to accomplish. Before that, we should introduce things like the telephone.
