Call me Bella: Alpha’s Fated Mate

Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Isabella Martini - POV

My heart was hammering against my ribcage as the warriors took Arlo out of the office. While my mind was creating all sorts of scenarios.

Did Alpha Ross tell him who I truly am?

Is that why he was so angry?

But why was he unconscious?

A gasp left my mouth when I felt a hand on my shoulder, and as I looked up, I saw Jacob looking at me with a blank look on his face. "What happened to him?" I whispered.

"There are a lot of things about Arlo you do not know about, Bella," he said as she silently walked out of there. I stood there for a little while longer before I made my way to the hospital. As I walked inside, I saw the nurses give me a forced smile before running away from there. I wanted to ask them where Arlo was, but from the thick tension in this hospital, I knew that something was off, so I decided to follow his scent.

I walked in further when I finally turned into a quiet hallway. Just like the rest of the hospital, this hallway also had a lot of closed doors on either side and a strong smell of disinfectant. As I walked in further, I heard my heels click every time they touched the white tiles when I came to a stop in front of a closed door.

Every day, I felt like I was finding out something new about Arlo, and every day, I felt like I was moving further away from him. The door quickly opened, and the pack doctor stepped out, he gave me a forced smile before he walked away.

I didn't know if I was allowed to go inside, but Rose was restless inside me, and I knew that I would not be able to wait outside until Jacobs came, so I walked in. Arlo was hooked to an IV, but instead of a clear liquid inside the IV bag, there was a bluish-green-colored liquid inside. "What happened to him, Jacob?" I asked, but he didn't answer my question, instead, he looked down at his Alpha with a pained expression on his face.

"I would have told you if I knew, Bella," he said with a sad smile on his face. "Arlo is slowly losing control of his wolf. I think you must have heard how he is known as the killing machine?" he asked me, and I didn't utter a word. "When he loses control of his wolf, he has no idea what he is doing. That was how, one day, while he was on patrol, he spotted a rogue outside our border, and he lost control of his wolf and chased it. We didn't know where he went. The pack was in complete lockdown and two days later, he came back home. His entire body was covered in blood, and there were no emotions in his eyes." he let out a deep breath as he walked towards the window and looked outside. "Ever since that day, he has been getting these headaches."

"There is something else you are not telling me, Jacob." I insisted when he turned around to face me, and for the first time, I saw a tear roll down his cheek.

"Arlo's days are numbered, Bella. No one knows what is going on in his body, but as the days pass by, his body is getting weaker." Jacob explained, but I shook my head. I can never believe it. I mean, I did see him train with his warriors and he was fast and strong.

"You are lying. He doesn't look like his body is deteriorating, Jacob." I told him, and this only made him smile.

"That's because he has been having this," he said as he walked towards me and showed me a bottle of tablets. "This is called silver grass. It is a type of herb that helps him keep up his Alpha strength."

"Where did you get this?"

"A witch gave it to him."

"So, couldn't the witch give him a cure?" I asked Jacob. I didn't know what was wrong with me, but the thought of Arlo dying made my heart painfully squeeze in agony.

"I don't know what she said, Bella. Because Arlo asked me to wait outside while he went inside. But when he came back out, he looked angry."

"So she did say that there was a cure?" I asked him, but he shuddered his shoulder.

"Jacob." that baritone voice made us both look at the hospital bed when I saw Arlo get up and sit against the headboard. "What is she doing in here?"

"I am your mate." I asserted, and this made him shake his head.

"I don't want you in here, leave," he said in a monotone. I wanted to argue with him, but Rose told me to let it go. With one last look at Arlo, I walked out of there. As I walked out of the hospital, I saw Sofia walk towards me.

"How is Arlo?"

"He is being an ass again," I said, and a smile formed on her face.

"Well, I guess he is all right then," Sofia said when something struck my mind.

"Sofia, can you do me a favor?" I asked her.

"Depends on what you want."

"I want to meet the witch that Arlo met," I said, and the smile on her face slowly faded away.

"Is Arlo truly all right?" Sofia asked me, but I couldn't form the words to say anything from the tears in my eyes, I think she must have figured it out. She looked around when she walked toward me and held my hand as she pulled me away.

We passed by various houses when she came to a stop in front of a beautiful cabin. We walked up to the porch, and she immediately unlocked the door as she walked inside before she locked the door behind her.

"Are you sure about this, Bella? Because once we go and meet her, there is no turning back," she asked me, and I nodded my head. Arlo saved my life, and if there is anything I can do to save his life, then I would do it for him.
