....
Over the East China Sea, dark clouds filled the sky, yet the surface of the water was calm and still. An eerie atmosphere hung heavy over the sea.
A dark figure sped across the water at the speed of sound, leaving a trail of splashing water as sonic booms erupted in its wake.
"Close, very close!" The figure accelerated, churning the sea into a frenzy. In its wake, countless fish, croaker, hairtail, eel, squid, pomfret, sharks, whales, even a giant squid, floated belly-up, the surface of the sea eerily silent.
...
In Okukozome, late at night, inside the Kasugano house…
Sora descended the stairs silently. She saw Haru asleep on the sofa, bathed in the warm glow of the living room lights. A flicker of anger crossed her eyes, quickly replaced by a wave of tenderness. "Come upstairs and sleep," she whispered.
Without waiting for a response, she turned and went back upstairs.
...
Meanwhile, at the Migiwa residence…
In the living room, Migiwa Ryouko glared furiously at her husband, Migiwa Ichirou, who sat calmly sipping his tea. Her forehead was creased with anger.
Kazuha and Akira huddled together in a corner, trembling. After being forced into an engagement, Akira, mortified, had tried to flee several times, only to be held back by Kazuha.
"Kazuha! This is your fault!" Terrified by Ryouko's fury, Akira clung to Kazuha's arm, her voice shaking.
"Whose fault is it, really? You had to go ghost hunting, and now we're both engaged to Haru! And we haven't even caught the ghost." Kazuha said with a strained smile, pinching Akira's cheek. The events of the day had been overwhelming.
To be suddenly engaged to a boy she barely knew, after meeting him only once… Pinching her friend's cheek was the only way she could express her frustration.
"Ichirou! You need to explain yourself! How could you arrange Kazuha's engagement without consulting me? And Akira's too? To the same person, no less!"
Ryouko slammed her hand on the table and demanded an explanation from her husband.
"Calm down, Ryouko. The matter is settled," Migiwa Ichirou replied calmly, sipping his tea.
"You gave away both of my daughters without even asking me, and you're acting like nothing happened?!" Ryouko's anger escalated, reaching a boiling point.
Migiwa Ichirou sighed. "The elders in both our families have agreed. They support my decision."
Ryouko felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She slumped to the ground, defeated. "How could they? They interfered with my marriage, and now they're controlling Kazuha's life, too?"
Migiwa Ichirou looked at his wife with sympathy.
Years of marriage had fostered genuine affection between them, even though their union had been a political arrangement.
They had both suffered through arranged marriages and had wanted their children to experience the freedom of choosing their own partners.
But the pressure this time was immense. Nearly all of Japan's elite supported this engagement. As a couple from prominent families, facing the combined pressure from the political, business, and magical worlds, they were powerless to resist.
The only consolation, perhaps, was that both parties seemed to have some genuine affection for each other. Migiwa Ichirou sighed, looking at his daughters.
"We can at least save one of them, right? He seems to be interested in Kazuha. That means we can protect Akira, can't we? The law wouldn't recognize a marriage to two sisters, would it?" Ryouko clutched her hands so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
She knew the law might not apply to these powerful families, but she clung to this hope like a lifeline.
Akira stared at Ryouko, stunned. This was the first time she had felt maternal love from her. She had always believed that Ryouko ignored her because she was an illegitimate child, but now she realized she had been cared for all along.
Kazuha, seeing Akira's tears of joy, felt a pang of happiness. Even though they were both engaged to the same man, at least their family was united. As she thought this, Haru's face flashed through her mind, and her cheeks flushed. Engaged after just one meeting… How embarrassing!
"That person… with a single command, he could change the laws of this country. No one can oppose him except those of equal power." After a long silence, Migiwa Ichirou revealed the truth. The seven individuals who wielded divine power stolen from the gods, the rulers of Earth, each possessed the might to subjugate all of humanity.
The three women, listening to this fantastical tale, were speechless. None of them could have imagined that the quiet, even timid, boy from their childhood would commit such a daring act as killing a god. You can never truly know a person, they thought.
...
"Found it!"
A towering figure hovered a thousand meters above the ground, standing on a cloud, gazing at the traditional Japanese house below – the Migiwa residence.
"Hmm?" The figure turned, surprised, and looked at the silver-haired young man who had appeared behind him.
Haru's eyes sparkled with excitement, his face lit up like a hunter who had cornered his prey. He stared intently at the imposing figure before him.
Earlier that morning, his Campione instincts had alerted him to the presence of a powerful being observing Okukozome. The egg within him had thrummed with anticipation, signaling the presence of a god. He had been on high alert ever since, waiting for the opportunity to confront this being, and now, he had finally caught his big fish!
The figure had a dark complexion and wore a purple-gold crown with fragrant pouches hanging from each side to protect his ears. He was dressed in a wide-sleeved robe with a ruffled collar, adorned with an embroidered black python. Ancient boots covered his feet. And most importantly, a crescent moon adorned his forehead.
The mere sight of him evoked a feeling of one's sins being laid bare, judged by a stern figure in a court of law. An ordinary person would have their soul dragged to hell upon witnessing his presence.
Haru had seen images of this figure. The crescent moon mark, the dark complexion, the aura of righteous and justice, as if standing in a grand courtroom.
"Judge Bao from Kaifeng!!!"
Thunder roared, lightning flashed, and dark clouds churned across the sky.
The Heretic God, who resembled the Song Dynasty official, Bao Zheng aka "Justice Bao" stood before Haru.
