Chapter 244 - Failed Attempt at Scheming
Before everyone went to sleep that night, Dean Atchison and Hua Deli both sent messages to Ruo Manni, asking her to enter the war realm at the same time as them.
Ruo Manni found it somewhat amusing yet warming. The two cousins clearly noticed that she was reluctant to face Hebrew Adam directly in private, so they were being very meticulous about their protective measures, ensuring that Hebrew Adam truly couldn’t find an opportunity to speak with her alone.
However, Hebrew Adam clearly understood her feelings and didn’t try to pressure her. He didn’t even send her any urgent messages; he only sent her one in the morning and another in the evening.
“I’m very happy thinking about seeing you later,” was his message from that morning.
“Good night! My girl, see you in the war realm,” was the one he just sent.
Ruo Manni stared at these two messages for a while, unable to hide her face in embarrassment. How could this guy be so charming? His words weren’t particularly sweet, yet they conveyed his feelings so clearly that she felt her resistance slowly fading. What should she do about it?
At the time she had agreed upon with Hua Deli and Dean Atchison, Ruo Manni entered the war realm and found the two cousins already waiting for her in the hall.
She looked around but didn’t see Brittany Beery in the hall. This girl usually loved to wait for Hebrew Adam there, so why wasn’t she around today after such a significant event yesterday?
With these thoughts in mind, Ruo Manni casually followed her cousins to their personal room. Today, she planned to help them repair and adjust their mechs.
To her surprise, as soon as she entered, she saw a very ambiguous scene.
Hebrew Adam was visibly impatient as he pushed away Brittany Beery, who was trying to throw herself at him, while Brittany, with tears streaming down her face, cried out, “Hebrew brother…”
No matter how you looked at it, the situation was quite melodramatic.
The problem was that it wasn’t the right setting for their flirtation; they shouldn’t be behaving this way in his room.
Dean Atchison asked displeasedly, “What are you two doing?”
“How can you just barge in here?” Brittany Beery wiped her tears and asked angrily.
Dean Atchison smirked slightly. “This isn’t Hebrew Adam’s room. I don’t believe you didn’t know that.”
His words caused Brittany Beery’s face to twist momentarily.
“I was originally favored by the queen to be with the second prince, and you Hua De family have no shame, barging in here as if you want to be the third party.” Although there were still tears in Brittany Beery’s eyes, the look she gave Ruo Manni was filled with hatred.
“The one who’s shameless is you. Even if my mother favored it, I never looked at you. Besides, I haven’t seen you in seven or eight years. Who do you think you are? What gives you the right to complain here?” Hebrew Adam was furious. How dare she speak about Ruo Manni like that? He didn’t see any reason to show Brittany Beery any consideration.
“Did His Majesty the King also propose marriage to your Beery family on behalf of the second prince? Why hasn’t a marriage been arranged?” Ruo Manni asked, not getting angry but simply smiling lightly.
Brittany Beery didn’t expect the reactions of these two to be completely different from what she had imagined.
The country bumpkin didn’t react with the expected stinginess or anger, instead revealing her foolish and uncultured side.
However, what struck Brittany Beery the hardest was that the second prince was so unyielding towards her in front of this country bumpkin.
She thought that since they had played together for quite some time as children, there was a bond between them and that Hebrew Adam liked her too. She believed that King Adam had bypassed Hebrew Adam to arrange for this country bumpkin instead, and that Queen Amber had changed her mind because the Hua De family was stronger than the Beery family.
Brittany Beery never considered that Hebrew Adam would be siding with this country bumpkin.
“Hebrew brother, weren’t we really good friends before? The queen has always said that we are a perfect match,” Brittany Beery said with great sadness.
Hebrew Adam felt both anxious and angry. This woman was entangling him in the battlefield, and he planned to make things clear to her so that she would keep her distance and avoid any unnecessary rumors that might lead to misunderstandings for Ruo Manni.
However, he couldn’t say these things in public. He didn’t want Ruo Manni to think he had any ambiguity with Brittany Beery, so he decided to take her directly to Ruo Manni’s personal lounge.
Before Manni arrived, this woman was still speaking nicely, but upon seeing Manni, she deliberately chose to say things that could easily lead to misunderstandings. Hebrew Adam wished he could knock this woman out immediately; he really didn’t expect her heart to be so deep and cunning.
“Wow, you were only seven or eight years old then, and you were already thinking about getting married? How shameless! Do you really think we would believe such ridiculous things just because you say them? Stop dreaming; do you think everyone is as foolish as you?” Dean Atchison said disdainfully, as if they were fools who couldn’t see through her tricks.
Although Dean Atchison was quite displeased with Hebrew Adam for having his sights set on his cousin, he was well aware of Hebrew Adam’s history over the past seven or eight years, having been friends with him.
Moreover, while Queen Amber’s attitude toward Brittany Beery was somewhat ambiguous, she had never publicly indicated a desire to arrange a marriage with the Beery family. Otherwise, given the Beery family’s nature, it would have already been widely known throughout the empire.
Most importantly, King Adam and cousin Xiahai publicly declared at a press conference last year that only girls whom Hebrew Adam liked would be considered for the position of second prince’s consort.
Hebrew Adam had been with them all these years and had always expressed his feelings for Ruo Manni. Before Brittany Beery joined the capital’s top guild, who remembered who she was?
So who gave Brittany Beery the audacity to say such divisive things here, treating them as if they were stupid? Didn’t she notice that even the cousin, the person involved, was watching her performance with a look of amusement?
Hebrew Adam naturally noticed Ruo Manni’s attitude; he sighed with relief and darkly told Brittany Beery, “I warn you, if I hear any negative rumors about the Hua De family outside, I will hold the Beery family accountable for it. Now get lost.”
Brittany Beery definitely didn’t expect that the four people she was facing were not ordinary adversaries; they weren’t following her script at all. Aside from covering her face and pretending to cry, she had no other options left.
Brittany Beery transformed into a beam of white light and disappeared, but Hebrew Adam’s situation became quite awkward.
“You know I was only fourteen when my brother sent me away; she was just a childhood playmate,” Hebrew Adam had to clarify.
“I understand,” Hua Deli nodded, not intentionally trying to embarrass Hebrew Adam.
After all, he had also been one of Hebrew Adam’s childhood playmates, so he was very aware of the situation. Moreover, given Hebrew Adam’s character, he had the least respect for those who liked to deceive and play both sides.
“However, it’s clear that the Beery family is unwilling to give up on you. You need to resolve this matter quickly; I don’t want Manni to get into trouble and become a topic of gossip.”
