Chapter 259 - Locked In
Naturally, Ruo Manni was not powerful enough to monitor the commander and deputy commander’s plans, so she was unaware of their schemes. However, even without guessing, she could deduce that the commander and deputy commander would not simply give up. They would certainly find a way to get rid of her, and might even follow the orders of the Beery family, attempting to have her eliminated.
At this point, Ruo Manni had firmly established her position in the military camp. Moreover, even the commander could not defeat her, so both Deputy Tong and Deputy Ma speculated that these people were likely reluctant to openly scheme against Ruo Manni due to the influence of Commander Lin and the capital planet. They would most likely wait for an opportunity when Ruo Manni returned to the city. To eliminate the big bad boss of the base’s first regiment, Ruo Manni decided to “give” them that opportunity.
Perhaps the situation was not yet clear, as nothing had happened on the way, and Ruo Manni safely arrived at the family’s mansion in Baili City.
Sitting in the living room, Ruo Manni finally felt herself relax. It was only then that she realized how tense she had been for the past eleven days in the military camp, constantly on edge.
After eating and drinking, feeling uncomfortable with the wasted time, Ruo Manni entered her jade pendant space for a solid round of cultivation before coming out. She then lay down in the custom game pod for the war realm and had two hours of deep sleep before entering the war realm at the scheduled time.
Hebrew Adam had already logged in before her. As soon as Ruo Manni entered, she saw the handsome blond man with a mature aura standing in the guild hall.
However, the handsome guy was not alone. He was accompanied by a beautiful young girl, who was looking at him with a pleading expression, appearing pitiful.
It seemed that today Hebrew Adam wasn’t having the best luck—Brittany Beery had logged in and was clinging to him again.
Since Hebrew Adam was no longer the guild leader and Brittany Beery was an elite student from the first military academy of Xuan Gu, he had to show some respect as a senior. But more importantly, to avoid alarming anyone, Hebrew Adam endured and didn’t kick Brittany Beery out of the guild, although his expression was clearly cold and impatient as he ignored her.
Ruo Manni smiled and watched Hebrew Adam with a frosty face, his attitude toward Brittany Beery one of clear indifference.
Ruo Manni remembered when she first met him—Hebrew Adam was exactly like this. At that time, she found his cold expression extremely annoying. But now, she thought his serious demeanor made him look particularly cool and handsome.
As soon as Hebrew Adam saw Ruo Manni, his cold expression softened instantly, and his eyes even filled with joy. He immediately shook off Brittany Beery and walked quickly towards Ruo Manni, taking her hand and heading toward his lounge.
“What are you doing? Hands off, what’s with all the touching? Let go of my cousin,” an angry shout came from behind them. Both of them knew immediately who it was without needing to turn around.
Ruo Manni looked back and, sure enough, Dean Atchison was walking over with an unhappy expression, seemingly intending to separate them.
In the past, when Ruo Manni had not yet decided her feelings, Hebrew Adam had no official position and had to endure. Now that their relationship was clear, Hebrew Adam would certainly not allow Dean Atchison to be an obstacle between him and Ruo Manni.
After all, he only had ten days to be close to Ruo Manni. There was no way he was going to let Dean Atchison ruin that.
“Ruo Manni is my fiancée. If I can’t hold her hand, who can?” Hebrew Adam said firmly.
Dean Atchison was momentarily stunned but quickly reacted. “When did you two get engaged? Why didn’t I know about it?”
“At that time, my father and older brother personally asked the Ancestor of the Hua De family for her hand. They made an agreement that if Ruo Manni accepted me, she would be my fiancée, and now she is my legitimate fiancée,” Hebrew Adam said loudly, wanting everyone in the guild hall to know that Ruo Manni was the girl he liked, and everyone else was irrelevant.
Dean Atchison was stunned into silence for a moment.
“I have important matters to discuss with your cousin. We’ll talk later,” Hebrew Adam said naturally as he pulled the young woman away.
Dean Atchison snapped out of his shock and watched the two of them walk away, hesitating to speak. What could he say? He wasn’t blind—when the Second Prince said that, and seeing his cousin smiling lightly without saying anything, it was clear she didn’t oppose what the Second Prince said. So it must be true.
In the past, Dean had been determined to stay in between them for two reasons. First, he didn’t like the fact that his cousin, who was still underage, had caught the attention of the Second Prince. Second, he could tell that his cousin hadn’t made up her mind yet, and he didn’t want the Second Prince to influence her decision.
But now, seeing them holding hands so intimately, Dean knew he couldn’t act like before and interfere with Hebrew Adam, making his cousin uncomfortable.
To be honest, Dean Atchison didn’t think Hebrew Adam was good enough for his cousin. However, among the young talents today, Hebrew Adam was about the only one who could make a match with her, though just barely.
In truth, Ruo Manni didn’t know how the Ancestor had answered King Adam and the First Prince. But in such a situation, she couldn’t embarrass Hebrew Adam, so she just went along with it.
There were many people in the guild hall today, and Ruo Manni believed that soon the noble families from the capital planet would know that she was Hebrew Adam’s fiancée. She couldn’t help but want to mock Hebrew Adam for being such a schemer.
However, once they entered Hebrew Adam’s private lounge, she didn’t have time to complain about him. The moment they entered, he pressed her against the wall and kissed her passionately without giving her a chance to speak.
Ruo Manni felt uncomfortable because Hebrew Adam’s force was too much, and she struggled a bit. But instead of easing up, he gave her an even tighter embrace and kissed her more intensely. In the heat of his passion, she couldn’t help but feel affected…
But knowing the restrictions in place in this room—where certain things couldn’t happen below the neck—Ruo Manni didn’t resist the feeling.
Hebrew Adam was kissed so passionately that he felt a burning heat all over his body, almost unbearable, but he didn’t want to let go of the girl in his arms, indulging in a form of self-torture.
However, the time he could indulge in self-torture didn’t last long. Less than an hour into their intimate moment, they were interrupted by Hua Deli and Dean Atchison, who relentlessly pursued them and made it impossible to continue.
Hebrew Adam had no choice but to open the door to his room, allowing the others to come in.
Ruo Manni had sent a message in the evening saying that she would be available to enter the war world tonight. Therefore, out of the twelve people, except for Gao Haitao and Mina-Olli, everyone else went online.
Although Hua Deli was well aware of his sister’s recent situation through the messages, it couldn’t compare to seeing her in person. When he came in to see her, if not for Hebrew Adam’s forceful presence, he probably wouldn’t even be able to sit next to her.
The futures of the others had already been mostly determined about half a year ago, and now they were in the phase of struggling to develop. Only Ruo Manni, along with her companions Tamaki Kazia and Sheila, had officially “started” just a few days ago, so everyone’s focus was on these three.
Hua Deli looked as though he hadn’t seen his sister in a long time, but in reality, Ruo Manni had only left the Third Army about twenty days ago, and it had only been a month since she last saw Hua Deli.
Although Hua Deli was a second lieutenant, the situation in the Third Army and the Seventh Army was different. The Third Army was the third largest legion in the Central Star Region, while the Seventh Army in the fringe star regions didn’t have much to compare with.
In the Third Army’s mech battalion, the lowest rank of soldiers had a cultivation level of at least level five, and for Hua Deli, being a level five mid-tier warrior and having made it to platoon leader was quite impressive. If he weren’t from the direct line of the Hua De family, with his own abilities and so many merit points, he probably would have only been able to manage a squad leader position.
Of course, compared to the Seventh Army, Hua Deli’s position in the Third Army was low, and his experience wasn’t as deep, but no one dared to make things difficult for him, and instead, doors were opened for him at every turn. This was quite different from Ruo Manni’s experience, where she had to fight her way through every obstacle—killing the chicken to warn the monkeys, and then killing the monkeys to warn the chickens, always having to create conditions even when they weren’t available.
Dean Atchison also joined Atchison’s 11th Army. His situation was similar to Hua Deli’s: he was in the mech battalion, holding a position that wasn’t too big but still notable. However, everyone knew that he was a key talent being cultivated by the Atchison family.
Mina-Olli, on the other hand, went to the Olli family’s sphere of influence. Although the First Army, where the Olli family was based, was the strongest, it was divided among three major families. Therefore, even though Mina-Olli was a very outstanding telekinetic, she only held the position of a small squad leader in the mech battalion, and she often faced obstacles from other factions. While her situation in the military wasn’t as difficult as Ruo Manni’s, it wasn’t easy either.
As for the other members of the elite class, Gao Haitao returned to the Second Army, which was under his family’s jurisdiction. The political situation in the Second Army was similar to the First Army, where power was divided among several large families. As a result, Gao Haitao couldn’t even become a platoon leader and was still an ordinary soldier.
The cousins Su Forty-three and Abulaiti Asimu joined Hebrew Adam after graduation. They hadn’t yet officially joined one of the three armies controlled by the royal family and were currently undergoing secret training somewhere unknown.
The remaining members each had their own path: Ninja King Ren Wuyue allied with Hua Deli, Tino Venamoinen sided with Dean Atchison, and Tamaki Kazia and Sheila joined Ruo Manni. Everyone had found their place.
Except for Ruo Manni, Tamaki Kazia, and Sheila, the rest of the elite class members were able to enter the war world for training almost every other night.
Once a person enters society, it’s impossible to remain as innocent as in school. Even the sharp-tongued Sheila had changed; she was no longer as confrontational with Ruo Manni for fun and had become more like a reliable confidante.
When she saw Hebrew Adam openly sitting beside Ruo Manni, holding her hand without letting go, Sheila pretended not to notice, though there was an unmistakable look of surprise in her eyes.
Ruo Manni could easily guess what was on Sheila’s mind—she likely thought that the thicker her “big leg” (Hebrew Adam) was, the better.
The group chatted casually, most of them feeling that after entering the military, they had more personal time than they did in military school. Now, they no longer had to balance cultural lessons with urgent cultivation, which made their lives a little easier.
Ruo Manni also felt the same way. She no longer had to lead the morning runs herself; she could let the vice-captain, who had fully submitted to her, lead the team.
During the day, Ruo Manni trained with everyone, but at night, she focused on her own cultivation. As a result, she now spent more time training than she did in school.
After all, everyone was determined to get stronger. After chatting for an hour, they all went back to their training.
Although Hebrew Adam had frequently lost control while kissing Ruo Manni before, he was the one who most wanted her to become stronger as quickly as possible. So, he didn’t waste time and dragged her into sparring sessions. Now that he was a Level 7 warrior, he could teach her even more.
After meeting her friends in the evening, she was “bullied” by her affectionate boyfriend and then kissed until she felt dizzy before they parted ways.
When Ruo Manni woke up in the morning, she noticed that her feelings of longing had faded quite a bit, and in a good mood, she made plans to have a meal with Mentor Fang.
In the afternoon, she and Deputy Ma drove a flying car to Kazia’s villa to pick up Sheila and Tamaki Kazia, preparing to return to the military camp.
“Returning to the city might not be so peaceful, so be prepared for battle at any time,” Deputy Ma warned.
Ruo Manni, Tamaki Kazia, and Sheila were all mentally prepared, so they didn’t panic.
Ruo Manni opened her holographic device and set the detection screens around the flying car to shadow mode, so the four of them could observe the surroundings at all times.
About three minutes after their flying car left Baili City, Ruo Manni’s holographic device suddenly flashed a red warning light. The other three immediately tensed up, but there was still nothing unusual in the shadow mode.
But it wasn’t just Ruo Manni’s holographic device flashing a red warning light; the flying car itself also emitted a sharp alarm.
Tamaki Kazia and Sheila stared intently at the shadow images surrounding the flying car, but still couldn’t find anything unusual.
However, Ruo Manni had already received the information transmitted by the holographic device’s automatic alarm system. She kept a serious expression as her fingers quickly tapped on the device and issued several commands.
“Manni, what exactly is going on?” Sheila asked anxiously.
Seeing Ruo Manni’s expression change with the alarm, Sheila immediately knew something big had happened. However, she had no knowledge of the crisis and was starting to feel a bit panicked.
“Our ship has been locked onto. Someone is trying to attack us with a light bomb,” Ruo Manni answered after a two-second delay, her expression relaxing afterward.
After successfully sending the commands, Ruo Manni let out a sigh of relief. In situations like this, it’s all about speed, and the people targeting them were so slow, they definitely weren’t military personnel. After locking onto them for so long, they still hadn’t fired.
“What should we do?” Sheila asked, knowing what a light bomb was and unable to hide her panic.
A light bomb was a very terrifying weapon. Despite its small size—about the size of a fist—anything directly hit by it would turn into gas. After exploding, anything within ten meters would be instantly burned to a crisp due to the high temperature, and living beings within fifty meters would suffer severe burns.
They were currently flying in the air, and their flying car was locked onto. No matter where they fled, they couldn’t escape—it was like being a live target. Unlike on the ground, they couldn’t abandon the car and flee before the missile struck.
“Don’t worry, just look at how calm our captain is,” Tamaki Kazia said, holding her hand to reassure her.
Tamaki Kazia was not without concern, but he knew that Ruo Manni and Deputy Ma would not just sit idly by and wait for their fate.
Deputy Ma’s expression remained unchanged throughout. He calmly sat there, watching Ruo Manni operate the system. It was clear that he knew Ruo Manni had a trump card, and they would be fine.
Before Sheila could respond, the sharp alarm sounded again in the flying car.
This time, everyone could clearly see in the shadow images that on the left side of the flying car, a red cannonball was rapidly approaching. It was about to hit their vehicle…
