Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 283 - Traversing the Black Hole

Hebrew Adam shared the story of his ancestors’ experiences with his companions. He told them that the prince had passed through the mysterious black hole, lived for fifty years in another parallel world, and returned. Meanwhile, only one year had passed here. The others in the elite class felt a heavy weight in their hearts.

Hebrew Adam had previously told them that only a level-nine mecha warrior could withstand the attacks of the Yunkai Star people, and this made the elite class feel a deep sense of despair.

However, from this story, they saw a glimmer of hope.

All of them were exceptionally gifted, and by the age of twenty, they had all reached level six or above in their cultivation. If they were given more time, like fifty years, it wouldn’t be a dream for them to reach level nine.

Especially Hebrew Adam, Ruo Manni, Hua Deli, Mina-Olli, and Dean Atchison. It could be said that they only lacked the time to grow.

If what was recorded in this secret manual was true, they might have enough time to train and then return to save the Gumera Star Domain.

“Are you sure that the manual describes real events and not just a legend?” Ruo Manni asked cautiously.

“Yes, this manual records our family’s secret inheritance and documents real events. If it weren’t true, my father wouldn’t have shown it to us brothers, thinking it was a way out.” Hebrew Adam answered confidently.

His certainty made everyone believe him, because the Adam family had been a royal lineage for over two thousand years, so having such a manual was natural. As they knew, some long-established families also had similar records.

“However, so much time has passed, and no one knows if the black hole that will appear tomorrow is the same one from back then. Whether the world we are sent to is the same world that my ancestor the prince went to. And whether the prince’s experiences were an exception, and many other questions. In short, this journey is an adventure, and you can consider whether you want to join us,” Hebrew Adam said.

No one in the elite class hesitated or felt the slightest bit of doubt because of all these uncertainties. They knew that the star domain they lived in was facing the possibility of extinction, and the only hope likely rested on their shoulders. No one thought about retreating.

“No matter how dangerous it is, we’re not afraid. What we fear is not achieving the expected goal, not returning on time,” Hua Deli said seriously. That was their biggest concern.

“I share the same concern, but this is the only opportunity we have to change the current situation. Even if the future is uncertain, we have no choice but to try,” Hebrew Adam said with determination.

“I’m willing,” Ruo Manni said. “No matter the consequences, I’m willing to take the risk.”

“I’m willing too,” Hua Deli said, glancing at his sister as he spoke.

“I’m willing,” Mina-Olli immediately declared.

“I’m willing,” Dean Atchison said, unwilling to fall behind.

After everyone in the elite class expressed their willingness, Hebrew Adam shared the information left behind by the old prince regarding that parallel world.

“The old prince fell into the black hole during a battle. He disappeared suddenly and returned just as suddenly, so he didn’t bring much relevant information back. He only left behind some writings about that world…”

Ruo Manni opened the documents and immediately stared blankly. The surrounding sounds completely disappeared.

The characters, these familiar yet unfamiliar characters, were so similar to the ancient traditional Chinese characters from Earth…

“Ruo Manni, why are you in a daze? Is there something wrong with the writing? Or did you discover something?” Hebrew Adam asked.

He called her several times before Ruo Manni snapped back to her senses, showing just how deep in thought she had been.

“It’s nothing,” Ruo Manni said, trying to calm herself.

She struggled to keep her voice from trembling, and luckily, she succeeded. Hebrew Adam didn’t notice anything unusual about her.

Ruo Manni carefully examined the characters again. They really did look similar, but the problem was, she couldn’t be sure, as she wasn’t proficient in ancient texts.

And a parallel world… Which parallel world could it be?

For the rest of the half-day, Ruo Manni was somewhat distracted. Hebrew Adam, concerned, asked her what was wrong. She said it was nothing, and he couldn’t figure out the reason, so he just let it go for the time being.

Hebrew Adam had special privileges. The spacecraft they were traveling on didn’t follow the usual route through the desolate star’s space station. Instead, it passed directly through the atmosphere and flew toward the center of the desolate forest.

Years ago, the Yunkai Star people had been experimenting with mutant beasts here, causing quite a stir, but eventually, the eldest prince sent people to wipe them out completely.

Ruo Manni remembered that on the day the mutant beast tide was nearing its end, while the elite class was fighting the mutant beasts at the edge of the desolate forest, a massive explosion suddenly came from the center of the forest.

Now, five or six years later, from the spacecraft, the trees in the central area appeared much shorter than those around them, a clear sign of the destructive force of the explosion.

The spacecraft couldn’t enter the desolate forest, so for safety, everyone had boarded their mechs.

Hebrew Adam led the way. When they reached a cliff, they saw a sudden fluctuation on the cliff face, which gradually formed a black hole about the height of a person.

Hebrew Adam was the first to jump out of his mech and stow it away. The others followed his example.

The twelve of them walked up to the dark and mysterious black hole, feeling a faint pulling force coming from inside.

“This is it,” Ruo Manni asked.

Hebrew Adam nodded. “This is the right location, and about the right time. I’ll go check it out first.”

After Hebrew Adam spoke, he started to move forward, but Ruo Manni quickly grabbed his hand and said, “You can’t leave me behind.”

Hebrew Adam was a little moved. He tightly held the girl’s delicate hand, and together, they walked toward the black hole.

The others in the elite class helped each other stay close behind them. Hua Deli and Mina-Olli, along with Tamaki Kazia and Sheila, two couples, were also holding hands.

Ruo Manni heard Dean Atchison complaining from behind, “You’re all paired up now. Why keep torturing the single people? Do we bachelors have no rights?”

Ruo Manni wanted to laugh and retort, but just as she was about to, she and Hebrew Adam were only a meter or two away from the black hole when they were suddenly sucked in…

Ruo Manni felt herself involuntarily floating, her entire body suspended in mid-air. It felt like the gravity around her had disappeared, though there was still some faint gravity. However, she could sense that there was no real danger here.

Still, in such a dark environment, it made her feel uneasy. Ruo Manni distinctly felt Hebrew Adam’s warm hand firmly gripping hers.

But the speed was fast—so fast, it seemed. Before Ruo Manni could think much, she realized that she had been forcefully thrown out… Her body plummeted rapidly toward the ground. Ruo Manni and Hebrew Adam skillfully stabilized themselves and landed steadily.

Then, they realized they had appeared in front of a cliff, and there was another black hole in front of the cliff. Soon, their companions started to be thrown out one by one from the black hole.
